Thank you, It turned out better than I expected.

A lot of “jet” Piranha conversions flip the wings round, which makes the model back-heavy and “off” somehow, keeping them the right way round makes it much more balanced in shape. I also like how you’ve lined up the leading edge with the intakes; gives a nice transition of angles.

Cool looking stuff this month! Looking forward to your crazy cool conversion, Midgetgems!

This month, in a first for me, I bought something to paint for this challenge! Hopefully this doesn't become a dangerous new trend. I had some Bolt Action Soviet forward air observers to paint, so I thought I would get them a IL-2 ground attack aircraft to direct.

Wow, that's insanely good. Is that demon part of the base originally, or did you add it? Fits perfectly, either way!

Thanks guys. The demon is just the scenic base for Sangy that FW very kindly allowed you to pay extra for (they're good like that). I'm not sure if you can still get it or if it was an event only at the FW weekender.

Done! Not my best work, but these were always destined for the tabletop. This challenge just helped motivate me to finish them!

This is hands down my favorite Star Wars vehicle design, so I can't wait to see what you do with this!

Modock wrote:I haven't painted Tau minis in a very long time that I forgot I have some lying around. I found a piranha in my pile of shame.
Since I'm not such a huge fan of the current design I made a few adjustments, a bit of conversion, I made it more like a fighter jet.

I have access to 3D printer at work so with my limited design skill I drew a wing and a canopy. IMO it looks alright.

Yo that thing looks legit! And Tau will perfectly suited to your Infinity style! Looking forward! What kind of color scheme do you have in mind, since I'm assuming this is a one off and you don't actually own a full Tau army.

queen_annes_revenge wrote:Done!

I didn't quote the photo, but SO GOOD! Although I think the piece needs a slight contrast shift, darkening the values on the base and bumping the values on Sanguinius to draw focus to him.

Those are a very neat, DV8. Your "tabletop" standard is nuts, I'd say is way above.

Yea, you're right...Tau is favourite army because of the high tech look and it stands out quite a bit in 40K world. I just painted a few models but I'm
gonna shift more focus on them cause I need a break from painting Infinity minis.

The scheme will be in green military colors. I did these two years ago and the piranha will be something similar.

So a bit of progress; going for old school Fleet Air Arm colours on the Thunderbolts:

Might go for Coastal Command colours on the Marauders?

Progress
Started work on the canopy, had to be really careful as I wanted it completely clear so you could see the pilots and cockpit details.
Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Also fixed the polarity on the rare earth magnet in the Las Canon mount...a little embarrassing when the model ejected the weapon...

Now I am open to suggestions on how to show the constant change in temperature on the turbine casing.
Spoiler:

Next I have to start adding the steel showing from weathering and battle damage.

Google “steel bluing temperature” for reference photos and work out where the hottest part would be (hint; combustion chamber). You need a bright gold (possibly mithril) over the hot part fading back over a good distance to the base metal colour. Then use blue wash over the brightest part, fading through purple to sepia to the base gold. You need a bit of blend between the colours, but they can be relatively distinct bands (I think because each colour change happens at a critical temperature, so even if you’re only a few degrees below it won’t change).

Calling it done.

My 3rd duel of the year. Nothing fancy like a diorama. I paint for the table, and don’t have room on the shelf for little bespoke fighting bases. So just mixed army entries. Helps me get a little of everything done for my armies. Although next time I should do Ultras and Deathwatch; Eldar have been in all three.

Quite happy with the inceptors. My one complaint is the flight stands, they make them very face-down, and hard to photograph. Less happy with the bikes. Almost decided to cut them from my entry as I think overall they lower the quality by quite a bit. But they’ve been waiting for paint since 6th edition, so deserve their time in the sun.

Next month will be my annual undead entry. Already got the spooks lined up and primed. At this rate I’ll have a nighthaunt army done by the time they re-boot the universe again!

Thank you Jadenim, I will try a little of that on the exhaust flaps.

Nice duel Nevelon, two armies getting an addition in one go.

Some lovely work coming in as ever, folks. QAR - that's a stunny paintjob on Sangy - that's going to be hard to top this month! DV8, your tabletop standard is still clean and very well presented, nicely done. It's a similar philosophy to my entering my Corvus Blackstar last month - no special effort but just using the challenge as an excuse to paint it. Nev, I'm liking the continued Vs theme you've got going on, and it's always fun to see some classic eldar.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished versions of all of these WIPs, they're all looking promising!

I've never been one to post too many WIPs, because I usually feel in the middle stages of painting that the model looks rubbish and I save it until the end before I post anything. But I've been working on my griffon and I'm quite pleased with how the wings have come out, so what the hell, I'll post a WIP. Feathers are largely done, but still a fair bit of work required for the rest of it. I'm largely painting the griffon itself in a similar scheme to the Island of Blood box photos, but the rider to match the red/bone theme of my old High Elf army.

Thanks Duke of beer, I will try my best to make it Crazy AND Cool Yours is a nice idea, yeah sometimes you get a moment on inspiration and run off to buy something for a cool idea. Looking forward to see how yours turns out.

Damn! queen_Anne that is far to lovely. The subtle shading to the wings and the face (of course with your painting) are wonderful.

Those are amazing as well DV8. I actually though I was looking at a drawing for a minute. The bright leaves on the base give a nice contrast to the pale ghostly colors.

Yay a Madock conversion and its looking very good indeed

League table updated here

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/732117.page#9725909

Things are looking interesting and close at the mid way point 6 months in. Lots of pairs of people on similar scores and Queen Anne in the lead by just 5 points.

In an update to mine - Some of it has some paint on it!

I have just fitted the pauldrons and weapons to my honour guard, it's safe to say that older pads do not fit the newer arms properly.

Need to do a few touch ups and base them then they will be ready

Things were going well at the beginning of the month, then with one thing and another they kind of stalled a bit. Long story short, I used to fly aeroplanes for Thomas Cook.
Anyway, this is as far as I’ve got, and although I may paint a bit over the weekend for a break, I have other priorities at the moment. It’s a huge pity, because I was really enjoying this one. The Ghost Miniatures sculpt is beautiful and I really pushed myself with learning new techniques like the non on the sword.

Thanks again though for running the competition, without it I probably wouldn’t even get half way through painting a figure!

I'm sorry to hear that man, the whole TC is a travesty, really sorry to hear about your situation. Also sorry to see you drop out, looks like it would've been a gorgeous miniature. Hope things go upwards for you soon, though with a pilot skillset should be something right around the corner!

Well, wrapped up the treelord “Gumball Special”

I always wanted a army of treefolk, and starting with the Shadespire/NightVault Yltharis’s Guardians I found a reason to buy the Sylvaneth starter set and this up,up, and away competition got me the inspiration to paint them up. I just need to flock the second batch of dryads and I should have 1000points of Sylvaneth done. Looking forward to buying another start collecting box to work on them.

The contrast paints have also really helped me achieve what I was wanting to do (sunlight blades). Thanks for looking

Well I have loads of additional photos in my Necromundian Guard log, but I think these six give the best views...it is hard to fit the flying stand into the photos and let you see the detail, so one vertically arranged photo. Used the Las Cannon and Rocket Pods for this configuration, but also did the six Las Cannons for a Vendetta and the Multi-laser with Rocket Pods.
