I've heard that about Warlord before, dropping games shortly after release.
I'm new to Warlord, but what games apply here? I think their Warlords of Erehwon didn't do so great, but that's it? Or did some pass by so fast, I just missed it?
Cruel Seas, Blood Red Skies, Bolt Action, Black Powder, Antares Whatever and all their other games still seem to be doing well, or at least still being sold.

Blood red skies is still in what I’d call their “new” range. Meaning they are still releasing the core models so they can’t dump it just yet. Cruel seas is in the same boat sorry, just the most appropriate wording I could think of.
Terminator was dead before it arrived. They didn’t even plan past the initial release.
Test of Honour was given such poor support that it took one of the players buying it and starting their own company to give it life. The only reason this game came out is they bought the model molds from Wargames Factory.
Warlords of Erehwon is exactly the dump of “hey we got all these fantasy molds from wargames factory, why don’t we release a game for them?” It just feels that way and no driver behind it.
I can’t even think of all the other pump and dump games they made, and I was a moderator on their boards for a short time until I saw no support from the company itself.

Warlord of Erehwon was a pump & dump ruleset, but it's got a decent following. It's not a bad ruleset if you want fantasy warband skirmish, and Rick Priestly is pretty active on the Facebook group, answering rules question, taking in feedback and making more army lists.
Antares needs a second edition to consolidate the updated army lists, the expansions, and to maybe streamline the game a bit.
I've played a lot of Hail Caesar, and a little Bolt Action. I own BRS, but no one at my store seems interested in it. There are some people playing Cruel Seas at my FLGS, and Test of Honor was played for a short while.
When I picked up the Axis Minors book for Bolt Action, I took a look at the Romanian lists. And then I went to the Warlord forum and wrote a post detailing *some* of the historical inaccuracies with that list, starting with the squad size of the late war squad (note that by "late war", I mean the 1943-44 unit; Warlord never published anything for after summer 1944, when Romania switched sides). Or in other words, this was not a niggling little detail that only a rivet counter would care about. Despite repeated attempts on my part to raise the issue, Warlord never so much as acknowledged my comments. Worse, I drew flak from other commenters on the forum for raising the points at all.

This. Most Warlord related Facebook groups and forums are infested with a vocal toxic minority, determined Warlord is faultless. And if you say otherwise you are a GW liar vin fanboy.
Though presumably those don't include the sails, rigging, wake markers, and whatever cards/tokens you need to play the game. But it will let people see what the sculpts are like in person.

Rigging can presumably be improvised by the resourceful.
As for the rest, I wouldn't expect people to care unless they buy the game. And I'm guessing that anyone who buys in is going to want more than a couple of brigs or a single frigate.
There is an article on the Wargame Illustrated site. The full kits will have metal bits that have alternate figureheads with names to represent specific ships, while the base plastic kit can be used to make generic ships. The plan being to release more metal bits in the future (probably with different stat cards) to represent other historical ships.
The 1st rate ships look to be fully resin, with metal add on bits. So no plastic kits for them.
Miniature market is already sold out on the pre-orders for Victory and l'orient.
I was only kind of interested but now think I am fully in on this, even though my friends wont play and i will likely just be buying to collect. I did the same thing with the old Potc card game...
If Warlord can get a half decent range of models out, without the prices being silly the state of the rules and support matters less - as there are other rules out there.
the idea of clear acetate with rigging printed on it is interesting, the printed sails a bit 'so-so' but workable.
if they come up with some decent guides (in the book or website) on how to rig one of these and some decent paint guides the models should be 'ok' at worst.
had a look at the downloadable 'oak and iron' rules and have to say they also look a bit stripped down for me. Personally prefer closer to a simulation, aware thats not what everyone wants in terms of complexity.
do however expect to see a range of basic modifiers for weather, time of day, target aspect to the firing unit and similar - even if the main weapons get turned into a generic 'firepower' rating for the broadsides.
age of sail should avoid the issue in Cruel Seas where an enemy can start out of effective range, blast in, then blast you, before yoiu can do anything.
have to see how it plays, but can't see getting this currently.
Hopefully Warlord will be engaging with the forum they have a bit more, and not as with BRS totally ignoring it for weeks after launch

Thread. paper, and some Elmer's/ white glue can do wonders. Did this with some ship models it works wonders. Depending on the size, you can even step up to kite string, washed with diluted brown wash or tan paint.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

TBH, most game related groups and forums are like that.
Just saw that preorders for single ships have gone up.
The USS Constitution (essentially a frigate, albeit a tough one) is $38. No matter how you slice it, $38 for a single frigate is a tough pill to swallow. That bums me out.

Agreed, but the Constitution is supposed to be the biggest, baddest ship for the US... So while not the equivalent of the 1st rate ships in other fleets it is in that role for the US so has a similar price scheme. Its also resin and metal like the first rates, not plastic like the other frigates. I wonder if in game it will be artificially better so that it is almost as good as Victory or L'Orient...
I can see the Constitution being better at 48 guns than the 3rd rates at 78 guns. They did this is the PoTC wizkids game with the US Ships being the same statistically as other "5 mast" ships with additional special rules that made them end up better.
Will wait till I get my free ship with the magazine before i decide if I am gonna go in on the game.

I put in a pre-order, and I spoke with a guy at Wargames Illustrated; he said preorders would be going out Sept 27. I live in the US, so no idea if my copy would be coming from the UK or what...
Hopefully soon, very keen to get a look at my wee boats!
Yeah I was also told the 27th, then got a notification that delivery was due tomorrow... Not sure what is going on here but hopefully tomorrow is right! Just hope I don't get 4x 6th rates.

I was thinking the same, but for naval games. Those never seem to last.
I dont have any hopes for the longevity of the game, but also dont have any intention of playing it. Just hope they get around to releasing enough different models to make some sizeable fleets at decent prices before it falls off the perch.

Fully agree. Miniature market is having a huge clearance sale on table top minis. Bolt action, blood red skies , Antares etc. Massively reduced right next to dead / failing systems like Batman, Harry Potter, and old warmachine.
I'm not quite sure what Warlord is thinking at this point.

They’re thinking “We could release another Antares army in plastic and give it another go....or reinvent nothing and put out more mediocre stuff and see spittle sales bump.”

Antares could have been a much bigger deal if they had invested a little more into it. Modern plastics are great...but they only have a handful of plastic kits. Most of their miniatures are expensive metals, many of which look dated already. Their tie-in fiction is exciting, but there's nothing to bridge the reading experience with the modelling/gaming experience, at least for me.
It feels like they are still trying to compete against the second tier wargames of 1999.
