4 was the barge, 5 closes soon and had the pirate ship. Eother way, likely will be relased sooner or later. They seem to like staggering out the retail releases--alot of the last few months bones black stuff has been stuff from 4.

Bones Black is a big improvement over regular Bones.

That said, Maybe I can use some of those Frost Giants as Norse Gods for Of Gods and Mortals? I really need a similarly sized Athena or Artemis though.

I love how much easier it is to paint reaper stuff than the wizkid's d&d stuff. I'm not a great painter and i really find how shallow the wizkid details are to be quite difficult.

While there is a lot to be said for Nolzur's the mold lines are TERRIBLE. It took me hours to properly fix the Beholder.

So Anne is sort of leaving Reaper. Makes me wonder who will design new paints for them or if she'll do that on a contract basis. They mention she'll be around for Reapercon and stream but doesn't mention paint.

Everyone here at Reaper would like to wish Anne Foerster good fortune in her new adventure! In early April, after 17 years here in Texas, Anne will be relocating to northern California to be with her significant other and pursue life as a freelance painter and painting instructor.
Anne began as Reaper’s first on-staff painter in early 2003, and shortly thereafter began to develop the products that would later form Reaper’s very successful Master Series Paint line. After moving into the paint department full-time, Anne has spent the last 15 or so years personally producing almost every new color and batch of MSP! She is extremely happy to have left such a great legacy for the miniature painting community and especially Reaper fans.
Anne may be leaving Texas, but she is not leaving Reaper! She will continue to stream for Reaper on Twitch, and will attend ReaperCon later this year, reportedly so that she can continue to mess up all your names in the Reaper Master Series Open award ceremony (Anne: “It’s a tradition!”).
Please join us in wishing Anne the best of luck

Is it just me or are reaper figs overall (not all but many) looking outdating more and more with each passing year? Those remind me of great late 1990's/early 2000's sculpts with a few exceptions.

I was thinking rather differently. Now, Reaper has stuff in their catalog going back decades and a lot of it looks rather dated by modern standards, but I was just thinking the other day that some (although not all) of their new stuff has a more modern look to it (the two new Frost Giants in this release are examples of what to me look more contemporary).

I agree for the most part.
Also, their 2-year Kickstarter fulfillment arc certainly doesn't help the situation and that is further compounded by their slow trickle release to retail after the KS fulfills.
New offerings like Deep Cuts and Nolzur's showed up, filled a void and established themselves with better, more detailed sculpts while we waited for the last Bones to deliver.

Hrm. I like skeletons, I like archers, I like metal... not sure I like $8 for this.

Isn't that like... a rude gesture in England? I could have sworn it was.

Wizard, staff, can't go wrong with the basics.

And for all the kids angry that that Necromunda guy didn't get his Klan hood we have... Raxtan the Accuser!

He needs that axe for the times he accuses someone and the guy gets like all pissy about being accused and he has to take a wack at him.

Hopefully there will be more for March cause honestly this release is devoid of the madness I expect. Not even one animatronic were shark or dwarf were giraffe pirate.

This last post is a perfect example of what I mentioned on the previous page.

The skeleton archer is...objectively a pretty poor sculpt, and definitely sculpted old-school with greenstuff, etc.

The next two sculpts are pretty solid/clean, and likely digital sculpts..and are much better looking than the skeleton.

The last figure looks very hand-sculpted, but by a better sculptor than the skeleton.

Now I could be wrong, but it shows you the variety that Reaper produces, and they're definitely not very picky it seems when it comes to some stuff.

Amusingly both of the hand sculpted figures are sculpted by Bob Ridolfi... probably just to different design briefs.

Or having an off day...or, I'd assume a lot of sculptors have "B effort" pieces sitting in their workshop when they're asked for something to show.

In person, perhaps they're closer in quality, Reaper isn't known for the best photos of their stuff.

Yeah, that skeleton is straight out of a 1998 Reaper catalog in terms of style and quality.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the less well executed stuff is offered to reaper by sculptors just starting out rather than actively commissioned like they do with their main sculpting line up

and if the price is low enough they may as well try it and see if it sells (if it doesn't its not a big loss)

That is a classic skeleton mini. It reminds me of the old Heritage USA Dungeon Dwellers from the 1980s.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

I love that Skeleton!

I'm currently painting up some Reaper Bones (from KS I or II) and some CMON minis for Blood Rage and Hate, and the CMON minis are SO. MUCH. BETTER. Like no comparison. The early Bones minis are really pretty rough. I reckon they'll do at 3 feet, but dang, they are crummy up close when you're painting them...

The HATE minis are really quite excellent. Very glad I picked that one up!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Bones, particularly the earlier stuff is pretty crap at 28mm scale. Suitable as board game style pieces or for people who paint at a low level and don't much care about it - cheap gribblies to fill your D&D maps with. The material is significantly better on larger scale models. Even the Bones Black stuff has been "meh" on normal 28mm scale minis for me.

Blood Rage was okay but very small, and I didn't bother painting them - some board game pieces have been really good lately, and definitely better than Bones.

Does anyone have the Bulldog or know how big it is?

I just noticed it comes with alternate gun and flamer arms and an armored head which makes it potentially useful for all sorts of penitant engine or Sentinel conversions.

I have it. It's pretty big for infantry, but not dread naught sized. I packed mine away recently, but I'll look tomorrow and see if I can find it to take some photos.

I thought about using it as a mech for Star Breach, but the various mechs of the same size from Maelstrom's Edge are the same price and HIPs, and better detailed. Most of the Bulldog is cool, but the shoulders are just painful, like an old Warzone metal.

So I just placed an order with Reaper to replenish dwindling paint supplies and despite the ongoing collapse of civilization it shipped within a day with some nice bonuses like the miniatures of the month.

Great service, now hopefully it will survive international mail and customs (shudder)

As for new releases... well!

Persecuted as a youth for his clammy handshakes, Vodellis Winterhand vowed revenge and fled to Dark Lands to hone his emerging mystic powers and one day bring the feel of cold clammy hands to all who tormented him!

I sense if I had shown this to Kyoto Secunda and her Clone Sister I'd be looking at a dozen cute baby dragons on my order form. Bullet dodged.

Hanei, Female Warrior is a female warrior who, as you can see, hails from the cold and frigid north (where perhaps she had befriended Vodellis Winderhand?). But she is of a proud and hardy stock and not even the bone chilling frost of the mountains can make her forgo her people's traditional boob window.

Hill Giant Hunter and Dire Lion are kind of the Calvin and Hobbs of the mountains. Always getting into zany adventures and getting sent to the Mountain Principal's Office for detention.

I have never once in my life said 'I wonder what a skeletal Owlbear would look like' now I want an army of them.

Lastly I dunno how new these guys are but I imagine they've become top sellers.

Get some townsfolk and make some giant Corvid spores out of green stuff and you've got yourself a campaign.

Getting into Frostgrave now, those plague doctors would be great wizard and apprentice models and then use the Osprey cultist plastics to have all hooded shenanigans happening .
