This is something that's really beginning to irk me and I've noticed people becoming less and less willing to deviate from established factions. Space Marines were specifically set up to encourage creativity and I rarely see anyone create custom chapters anymore even if it's just a non-studio paint scheme. GW have even been dropping hints on the lore of the lost primarchs, two spaces left deliberately empty and with almost no lore so people could make their own primarchs and chapters up.

It's one of my biggest bugbears in 40k and I feel it is a byproduct of the HH series of people wanting everything to be codified and put in its own little box. No, that is quite literally the opposite of how the background of 40k was until a few years ago. Everything was potentially "canon", that was the beauty of the lore, unlike so many other franchises out there it was full of rumour, conjecture, things simply lost to time and half truths of historical "fact".
Now, there is some of that still there but GW seem intent on revealing every single mystery in 40k.

9th edition might bring it back - GW has gone almost polar opposite with AoS in freeing up creativity.

Wondering if lockdown has pushed back the waves or if GW will just drop a massive release once it’s lifted in 1 go.
They probably will speed releases a bit but not all in one go. They don't want things to be competing with each other too much.
Might combine 40k and AOS releases on same week for example rather than separate but no engine war and war of the spider at the same time.
Though simply delaying is option too to keep things more or less synchronzed with procedures. Not sure how easy to is for big company to fasten releases like that
I doubt gw will speed up the releases, seeing how they most likely can't run the factory and warehouse at full speed when the factory opens again.

They produce enough stock for their shops, webstores, and warehouse at a time. The exception is books and card/dice products--as those are done out of house.
The only reason I mentioned the books is that it gave us a window into something we previously were unaware of: how far in advance they were getting things prepped. We had Sons of Behemat Warscroll Cards some 2 months before the initial teaser announcement.

Well, the old Warriors are a pretty dated kit now. Even so, I just don't even know what to make of this, exactly. I mean, I would guess a model of the Silent King is likely, but beyond that? I'm really not going to get any hopes up for anything useful.
That being said, the video is pretty cool and has given me an idea for possible future Necron terrain!

Yeah, my remark was pretty cryptic. I didn't really mean that they look bad. In fact, I think they look pretty decent, but it is an old kit, just in terms of its age. For all we know, the mold itself might be worn/wearing out.

I would love to have a new codex reinvigorate my Necrons. I haven't really played that much 40k compared to AOS, and I'd be happy to dive back in my favorite faction got an update.
There has been several mentions of rumors for 9th with Necrons. I haven't been as active, but can anyone point to what the rumors are?

There's not much, just the odd rumour that the 9th Ed box set would be Primaris Marines vs Necrons, and Necrons would get a new Dex as part of it. There had also been rumours about the Silent King and new Pariahs, but it wasn't clear before if they were confused with Pariah as a book.

...Welp, that did the exact opposite of hype me up, considering necrons are one of the last armies i had interest in.
I don't like how gw does things anymore. now the Silent King is going to speak. and im certain it won't be worth the wait for me, because im not interested in named characters walking about, and this one in specific i was hoping they would do nothing with to keep him a mystery. but hey, mysteries are a thing of the past nowadays...
im sure the model will be some diorama or suspended off the ground with some masonry. im sure the new models will bug me and be to marked up for my taste. im someone who likes the older necron wraiths, so i wonder whats being discontinued to make space and if I prefer what new thing vs what old thing. also, not a fan of those things that looked like guards. necrons in my eyes are supposed to look more spindly instead of bulky, but who knows if they will also arrive.
also, i guess this increases the calls for 9th edition, of which im still mystified by. Welp, already in the pipeline, lets see what happens.

To be clear, there's a bunch of different rumors out there.
The most easily debunked is that there's "a 9th edition box set" coming with some absurd amount of Primaris Marines(the rumor was bikers, land speeders, and no infantry) versus Necrons with a Monolith in the box.
The more realistic rumors were that there's a new starter set coming for 40k, alongside of an "8.5" update ala what AoS had with Soul Wars. Necrons have primarily been the rumored army for this box, with a non-Marine army featuring in the opposing side(which is a bit harder to think of).
There have also been rumors floating around in the aether that GW has been viewing the Shadowspear/Sisters of Battle/Slaves to Darkness style of 'simplified builds' to be the way forward for updating chunks of armies at a time and then releasing those items as a Start Collecting set later. I'd actually be a bit more amenable to the rumor of a non-Marine army featuring as the opposition if this is true, as it would allow for them to start releasing updated core ranges a bit quicker. Plus, who wouldn't want simplified builds for Guardsmen, Neophytes, or other cheap infantry?

I could see a box set coming as a sort of conclusion to psy awakening. They seem to be building towards a big battle between primaris and co vs necrons lead by that new inquisitor and, I assume, the silent king.

I could get behind a Shadowspear style boxset if we got some beefy new easy to assemble warriors, since they are such a PITA to assemble. Assuming that the fully modular kits follow later.
Still, this makes me happy. If Necrons become a focus and get some new kits, I would be very, very happy, especially if they are int he vein of that new Szeras model, which looks absolutely ace. Chaos got a lot of excellent new kits to go with their release, so it would be really nice for Necrons to follow suit.

I'd welcome them updating the warriors so that they come with the gun designs we see on the ark instead of the clear plastic tube they have now. You can (with immortals) convert warriors to have the solid rods but it's a bit of a faf to have to convert the whole army that way.

Yeah, seems fairly clear that they're stylized Lychguard. It's stylized art, just like the Egyptian variety. Do people think that Necrons are getting actual watercraft also?
And regarding the mysteries....I'll take the cool stuff that I can paint and play with. They can always write up more meeeesteries.

Was it actually a proper rumour that the bikes and land speeder were part of a new starter set? From what I recall the blurry photo dropped without context, and anything to do with how they would release was speculation.

Yep, the blurry photo was specifically called out as being 'new starter set sighted'.
Worth mentioning that there's still nothing to validate it as anything but what I keep saying it is--a purposefully blurred photo composed of existing material. I'm trying to find my main rulebook, but the picture looked like one from the Narrative Play section showing Ultramarines and Blood Angels.
Not in main rulebook. Know I've seen it before, so this is gonna drive me nuts.
Basically, there's a Baal Predator in the photo that gives the 'game' away.

I have never seen anyone other than you claim that it had anything to do with a new starter set. And if anyone ever did say it then they were 100% wrong given that there are two different color Marine forces in it along with 3 tanks.
There is 0% chance GW would ever put an Impulsor, Baal Predator?, and Repulsor in a starter box...
Multiple people have told you this. Stop repeating it!
Also there's no way you're going to find the picture in an existing book because the center of the frame has a landspeeder looking vehicle with a silhouette completely different from any existing kits.
And the presence of an Impulsor means that it can only possibly be from a book that came out after the newest Space Marine codex, so there's really not that much ground to cover...
