Ok so to clarify the only floaty destroyers will be lokhurst big gunned big thrusterd destroyers. The skorpeks will have melee variants and ranged variants weve all seen the pics. Old destroyer lords, plastic destroyers and heavy destroyers will be gone bye bye consigned to legends no longer useable in matched play . Whether we ever get a new floaty destroyer lord is up for debate I reckon maybe one day but not yet.

"Old" Destroyers and company would be Lokhurst Destoryers.

I would hazard that it's a renaming and rekitting, to differentiate them from Skropekh Destroyers, not to erase them.

At least to be, the Lokhurst Destroyers they've previewed look to me like just new kits for the current Destroyers, with a copyrightable and differentiable-from-skropekh name.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Yeah, if you think you can't use your heavy destroyers as lokhust heavy destroyers... You have a problem.
It would mean that you can't use any of your old models when they get an update, which is nonsense, but I know from your other nonsense thread that you feel that way. But that's your problem and nowhere enforced by GW.
The majority of players will still use their 3rd Edition Marines on 25mm Bases just fine and don't care. Or used their even older destroyers up until now and will continue to do so. As well as using their Pariahs still as Lychguard. And once the Primaris line is big enough and old Marines don't have their own rules anymore people will just use them as Primaris, too, as a Marine with a Bolter is a Marine with a Bolter.

This is sound logic that I simply cannot find fault with.

Except GW doesn't always work well with logic, however sound it may be.

Of course if there's a non-HQ Heavy Destroyer mini coming out in plastic, I might just forget that I own 4 as-yet untouched Heavy Destroyer kits and build 'em as regular Destroyers. That'd give me 10 regular Destroyers, or enough to make 2x5 and avoid them being considered a "hoard" by the stupid new blast and coherency rules.

I am not saying you cannot use your old models. I am saying that so far the bulk of the replacement kits we have seen replace units that are either finecast or have green rods. We got a new warrior kit and temple. Both had green rods. We got a new Szeres (sp?) and he was fine cast. We got a new heavy destroyer and guess what? both green rods and fine cast. I would hazard a guess that more kits are on there way. And if those new kits are not new units I think it's likely to be replacements to old crap. Flayers. Destroyer Lords. Destroyers. Other necron characters. When we get around to nids that fabled Vore kit to make biovores/pyrovores. Maybe a new red terror.

Getting everything into injection moldable abs plastic is good for their production process. It's just plain cheaper to have everything run on the same system.

But GW are just as likely to ignore old things and let them linger and make new slightly more different-er things in plastic.

I mean yes, logic dictates that if they've replaced Warriors (green rods) and Heavy Destroyers (more green rods) and the Monolith (even more green rods, plus a green portal and a green crystal) then we should see them replace the regular Destroyers with a new kit.

But as I said, GW and logic aren't always on speaking terms.

Agreed. As I said. I suspect. I don't know. I suspect. But the name rebrand lends it some credence. I'm willing to bet I am right. Not a lot mind you. Just a little. But if I had to bet I would bet on replacements.

New destroyers? Awesome

I'm still using the old plastic ones as I adore the sculpts and I think Necrons strike me as the type of army to have several versions/models of things stored somewhere in the Tomb world!

I would legit love a Destroyer Crpytek and updated flayed ones

I just finished building my Indomitus set, got the Marines all primed and base coated and decided to take a break (Storms and humidity was absurd today, so I didn't want to risk any paint mishaps.)

Built the rest of the necrons and I have to say, they're amazing. I cannot wait for October to get here!

Hopefully GW just has managed supply issue then. ATM new necron players are pretty much screwed to start...No doomsday arc, no stalker, no lychguard...atm risky to buy destroyers without knowing their fate. ATM tomb blades one of the few units you can get.

My assumption is that the old destroyers are being renamed as lokhust destroyers and are getting a new model, much the same as the old wraiths and tomb spyders got renamed as canoptek wraiths and canoptek spyders at the same time as their model refresh. The sky is not falling. (although personally i did prefer the old wraith model...)

I too preferred the old wraith model and think that it would have been better to keep it a non canoptek unit.

eh, Locusts & Scorpion Destroyers. It's like when they started adding the model number to the Tau vehicles and suits. Same old thing, copyrightable differentiation.

But goddamn GW - do you have to murder the English language just so you can copyright stuff? No one can spell your stupid crazy name right.

They alluded to it during one of the streams. My guess is the model sitting behind the Monolith may be it. Most Necrons don't have their bodies modified beyond their normal form, except for Szeras and Destroyers. With the odd body of that one behind the Monolith I'm going to say it's the third type of destroyer.

I'd actually be perfectly happy to have all my green rod-type Destroyers just become whatever a "normal" Lokhust Destroyer is, including ripping all the poorly designed metal "Heavy Destroyer" arms off those that I have too and replacing them with some regular Destroyer guns so they all match.

Then, I will be quite happy to buy whatever "new"/Lokhust Destroyer kit comes out and have them replace my old "Heavy" ones with whatever is the new version of those are.

I still field my Original (yes, they're old too) metal destroyers and converted heavy destroyers. No doubt I'll continue to add to them....

I have the OLD metal Destroyers, and 3 of the current Heavy Destroyers (plus Destroyer Lord). I really like the look of the new Destroyers though.

I'm thinking of keeping my heavy destroyers as they are, repurposing my old-school metal destroyers as Tomb Blades (Particle beamers and sheildvanes). I'll get new Destroyers. The only downside is that my "heavy" destroyers will now look smaller than my normal ones. LOL

Others have already mentioned the un-previewed model behind the Monolith, but I'd also like to point out that we also have new artwork that shows what appears to be reimagined Flayed Ones walking through a marsh. It's pretty obvious that we have multiple kits coming which we haven't seen yet. We may get them in October alongside the codex and Monolith, or we may get a third wave later in the edition. Either way, it's a good time to be a Necron player!
