these look awsum so far! What I love about the Guard is that I have no interest in the Auxilia minis whatsoever, but seeing a Guard army come together is always appealing, no matter the theme. Using names for your platoons is pretty cool as an idea too, instead of the 'red platoon. blue platoon etc.' from the 3rd ed codex. Makes sense they'd have their own names, thanks for the inspiration. Can't wait to see these boys painted. Keep up the good work, Commissar Olthannon!

The feudal theme looks awesome. And that they of all regiments are airborne is quite an innovative idea.

Thanks Pyro! My old regiment was airborne, these lot are armoured cav!

Thanks Gobert much appreciated mate no brain power for painting but I can manage a bit of glueing!

Cheers Paddy, glad you think so!

So little update on what I've been working on. A relic tank for the new Codex.

Rogal Dorns get a tank commander now and I needed to use up my Dracosan from the Auxilia box.

Originally I was going to turn it into a Malcador chassis variant but as they seem to be getting no love I decided on something a little more elaborate. So I've been busy mucking about amongst the bits to make this relic tank.

Mortis Malleus rolling on to glory. Still some gap filling to do but it's on its way.

Cheers all!

that looks amazing! I love the Feudal Guard theme to it. Again, like I said, all Guardsmen are cool in my book. Love the relic and the shield behind the turret. GREAT design and build. Keep it up, sarge!

Been a bit quiet through February on the ol' Warhammer front, real life and baby and then we all had a cold and I was at an awards dinner where my team won.

Never uploaded the platoon command squad.

Lieutenant Heskgill commands Aquila platoon, wielding a relic hammer as their symbol of office. The handle contains the fibula of Saint Tarbinus - a well renowned pilgrim in the Bernician Sector who gave her life in defence of the planet Hexania VII during an Ork raid in M37.234.

The rest of the retinue contains vox-operator Charlton, Chirurgeon Jenkins, standard bearer Milburn and Cpl. Stephenson carries the ancient plasma gun Ustori to battle.

Cheers for now!

Oof you know it's been a while since I've updated when I'm halfway down page 3

I've been steadily updating my instagram but always get sidetracked doing an update for dakka. So here we go:

First off I painted up a trooper to test the colour scheme:

Trooper Carrson of 2nd squad. The only thing I might tweak is the vertical band on the helmet, think that'll look better in black. Might be I paint those different per squad.

Next up my scout sentinel Border Marcher piloted by Sergeant Nebby Nixon. Even scout sentinels of the Labrunnian pattern are enclosed for the Redburn regiments due to the subzero conditions they face.

My rough riders aka Redburn Steel Bonnets. Of all the CoS kits I'm most impressed with these knights. The design language is a clear evolution of the Empire Knights and done very well. Bit of green stuffing to cover over the Sigmar imagery and some new helmets. Couldn't resist keeping the stag helm for the Sergeant. Very Wild Hunt.

3rd squad of Aquila platoon led by Sergeant 'Ironhand' Curran. If anyone asks that's an "autogun" he's carrying. I'm still to GS his arms a bit to make him a bit more beefy.

First painted tank of the army, my Leman Russ Annihilator Sans Pareil. Had a bit of a balls up with the camo at first by using masking tape. I've since bought some tack instead which should make the next one easier.

Right I think that's the lot.

Cheers for now!

That's a lot built, I look forward to seeing some of it painted. You'll have to come back here to update Dakka for us heathens without Insta...

I like the trooper test scheme. The green fatigues really add something to a model that is easily at risk of being undefined - if you painted too much white camo, it would just all blend in and not look great (although I guess that would make it good camo?)

Concur- an awful lot of great building and painting accomplished!

For the helmet, yep- a spot of color to make the model pop a little. But maybe not the whole vertical band, maybe just the bottom segment between the brim and the rivet?

Love the tank; I'm finishing up a winter build myself and like how you've added the snow to the tracks. And I've never had any luck laying out camo stripes with tape- has to be tack!

Some really nice work this last page and a half Olthannon.

The conversions for the fuedal-ish winter guard are on point and the muted colour scheme works really well for them. A stark change from the vibrant space dwarfs but a welcome one! Can't wait to see that relic tank get some paint.

Hope the little one is leaving you enough time to get some hobby done.

Thanks for sharing!

Glad to see you’re not abandoning Dakka to insta. Personally I’ve got a bit of a love hate relationship going with insta and it now just gets my finished pics.

Loving the paint scheme, the white works really well on the soldier and tank the roughriders (though maybe posh riders is more appropriate) are very cool. The CoS stuff seems to have a bit of a steam punk vibe that works well in 40K
