In classic fashion, I've distracted myself from my pile of shame (both to build and to paint), from my LOER entry, AND from my monthly painting challenge entry with a brand new thing!

I've been watching a lot of spacedock videos: https://www.youtube.com/c/Spacedock/videos

I ALSO had the remnants for a storm-talon from the storm-hawk kit.

So, I've been playing around with bits on my desk while I listen to all my conference calls for the day. This is purely for my enjoyment, won't try to play it in 40k. Might even attempt to *gasp* paint it generically sci-fi instead of 40k focused.

I need to figure out the back end of this.. am working on an extra engine mount, and it'll need a tail. I also need to figure out including some dakka. However, if it isn't 40k, it won't necessarily require hero scale weaponry. Seeking any and all crazy ideas from this great community.

There will also be some line cleaning up, gap filling, etc.

Nice. If you have another 2 nacelles you could do something startfuryesque. A couple of simple short barrelled energy cannon under the nose would do it. I would stick to energy to.avoid issues of ammo capacity and delivery.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

thanks to you both! I've gone down a bit of a junker/han solo space renegade route with this, but am keeping it in the 40k universe. I've written some crude fluff. Essentially, Laslo Noso is a nar'do'well deserter. Running from one hive to the next, planet to planet, doing odd jobs and avoiding the law. His ship, the Condor, is as rough as it gets, crudely built out of salvaged parts etc. This is partly to explain how it looks like it is indeed thrown together, lol.

I still need to add some sort of weapon to this. I'm using a massive plasma cannon as a ship part on the bottom. Might just stick a gatling or some missiles to it and call it a day!

Laslo himself is going to be a kitbash of mainly SW scout parts. I have him crudely sitting on a barrel of something, to be positioned sitting next to his flying junker. C+C welcome!

Fluff:
Spoiler:

Laslo Nosa pulled himself out from underneath his runner, wiping his greasy hands on his thighs. This ship had seen better days. Nosa’s prized possession was originally salvaged from the wreckage of a far away battle between forces fighting for things he didn’t understand or believe him. Various harbor masters in ports he had called on over the years said it looked like it used to be a StormHook.. or something like that. All he knew, or cared for, was that it flew. He patted the nose of the ship, where he had long ago crudely painted Condor.

The Condor, not much more than a junker. had saved his life on several occasions and was key to his livelihood. Over the years the ship had been shot down, impounded, stripped, and rebuilt more times that Laslo could count. It included parts from a variety of vehicles which had originally been forged for the Emperor’s never-ending crusades. He tightened the last bolt on the access hatch, put away his tool kit, and headed to the lower levels for cheap libations and entertainments.
In any given week, Laslo was a salvager, courier, trader, thief, or bounty hunter. It depended on who was paying his bill. Technically a criminal, as a deserter from the forces “for the emperor,” Laslo has spent many years flying and living under the radar. Fortunately, the places his new occupation took him was beyond the sight, or care, of the Emperor. In the forgotten worlds of systems, there was little order beyond where the corrupt Governors of the hives interests lay. It was there in this grime where Laslo found a home.

As he entered the tavern, Laslo checked all his pockets and pouches, making sure anything of value was safe and secure. After going straight to the bar, he scanned the room, noticing his old acquaintance Radley Thane sitting in the corner. Laslo slowly cut through the room, only spilling his drink once, as an inebriated Arbite recruit pushed past him going the opposite direction. He sat down across from Radley, leaning in to hear him over the din.
“Laslo, last I heard you were being chased into an asteroid field by some Ork Pirates!”
Laso grunted, “and only one of us made it out.” As he spoke, he pulled a packaged out from his back pouch. Wrapped in cloth, it immediately caught Radley’s eye.
“I didn’t expect you to be able to deliver this so quickly. Where did you find it?” Radley was acting calm, but his eyes gave away his desire for the object.
“The specifics don’t matter, beyond that I wasn’t the only person looking for it. It cost me a targeting drive, and my left landing gear. I’m doubling my asking price.”
Radley gave Laslo a look of disdain, but then produced a sack which landed on the table with a thud. He quickly grabbed the object off the table, and it disappeared under his cloak.
“I don’t appreciate you screwing me here… but I need to deliver this to my buyer. Lots of people are looking for this.” Radley looked around the room, twice checking the door. He leaned further towards Laslo.
“Listen, Nosa, pal. I’m going to need one last thing from you. Without it, this relic is useless. I need you to fly through a warzone to get it… but we can pay four times your current rate.” Laslo nodded along, prompting Radley to continue. “You need to visit Acreage, beyond the Josian Reach Sub-Sector. There is a shut-down Imperial Forge there, with a room that doesn’t appear on any other forge blueprint. The room is protected by a double vaulted door. You’ll know what to take if you can break into it. Now go. Time is of the essence.”

Laslo downed his drink, grabbed the pouch off the table, and headed back to his ship. As he walked down the abandoned path a hooded figure appeared from the shadows. Laslo started to load supplies, delivered to his docking bay as he visited Radley. For a journey as long as this, he would need several stops, as the Condor was built mainly for short trips. Supply costs fluctuated wherever he went, so Laslo bought and flew with bulk when good prices were available. Laslo climbed into his cockpit and began the lift-off process. The Condor’s computers blinked to life, and the various mechanics throughout the fuselage clunked and clattered. With a piercing whir, the Condor’s three turbines came to life. The shaded cockpit canopy slowly closed, as Laslo put on his pilot’s helmet. Possessing the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities from it’s original life, the Condo sluggishly went straight up; hovering 40 feet above ground for several minutes. As Laslo engaged the thrusters, on the ground below, the hooded figure again emerged from the shadows. They lift their wrist up to their mouth, whispering
“He’s on his way.”

That is so cute. Really nice execution.

I would still hold put for a lascannon or 2 on the sides of the cockpit. If the ship is built for reentry may as wall try to avoid the most affected parts for the weaponry

Thank you! Figure it'll be a cool piece to display..

I agree.. I'm thinking two lascannon's mounted underneath the cockpit or on the wings, per your previous suggestion of ammo issues.

Painting update on The Condor.

I wanted to use a paint I hadn't used yet, and only realized halfway through that by using Valejo's "Russian Field Dress WW2" I had chosen a paint that makes this thing look awfully militaristic. I tried to switch it up a bit by adding the red and white racing stripe, and I think the yellow landing gears really play into the awkward bird style I was going for.

I added Lascannons underneath the cockpit.

This is the first time I've tried chipping with a sponge, the first time I've added soot to the engine blocks, and the first time painting a cockpit canopy.

Haha what a cute little spaceship you built there! It looks really good and you made the parts work together very well! Seems like it could be an actual GW Kit!
Also, great fluff you wrote for the pilot!
