Anyone else watching this Sci-fi series?

I didn’t care for it at first, but I found myself thinking about it all the time, and now I’m digging it. Though I do worry it will get distracted and bogged down by the weight of its themes. Religion, War, prophecies, Artifical Intelligence are all things that can get bothersome on their own, but all together they can get watered down. Thinking of the 2000’s Battlestar Galactica series in particular. And the most recent Alien movies.

Some solid performances from a variety of actors. Notably Mother, an advanced android who was reprogrammed to serve and nurture whats left of mankind in an atheistic society, a far cry from her original programming. Her counterpart Father, is the less advanced android but serves his own role, though in a much more limited way than Mother.

Travis Fimmel(Vikings Ragnar Lothbrok) is also good in it, as a member of the religious order of Mithraics, but has a super duper secret. Mithraics seem to be a throwback to the cult of Sol Invictus and they won the war against the atheists, but the planet became uninhabitable in the aftermath of the war.

It drags a bit in places, but I’m enjoying it.

First episode is on youtube:

Overall ive enjoyed the series. All the sci-fi elements are pretty good.
Spoiler:
I don’t as much care for the weird supernatural (?) elements that have been building so far. The ghost or whatever it is and whispers in people’s heads.

I'm enjoying it but sort of worry that it is going to be like Lost where they set up a bunch of mysteries but don't have a resolution for them and will try and come up with something very unsatisfying at the last minute.

I also worry it will get "bogged down" and announcing season 2 before 1 is done isn't helping.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I have been grabbing the episodes, but to be honest - I'm not going to start watching them until I know they stick the landing, at least for season one.

I like Ridley Scott in general but to say his more recently work has been uneven is, I think, being generous.

I love it. It creeps me out and gives me anxiety. They do a great job of making you appreciate the stakes in a helpless world. I'm a little worried about where they're taking it, but the starting point is great.

Todays two episodes dialed up the weird. I’ll have to do a rewatch tomorrow night.

Also, DC Comics is doing a prequel comic book series detailing how the war devastated Earth.

Sounds like we’re all worried about the direction its going.

Edit: Love the imagery and song of the opening credits.

I like the personalities of the various androids.

I wouldn’t mind a prequel of Mother and Father’s initial landing. Like did their ship scan the planet for ideal living conditions? It very much seems like it just kind of crashed and they’re like well, guess this is where we live forever now, no exploring.

I've gotta admit i am still on the fence about this one.

I've watched up to episode 7 and I still haven't decided if it's any good or not.....

Usually, after about 3 episodes, I can say whether I like something or not but I neither like, nor dislike it, at the moment.

I'm actually finding it pretty unoriginal tbh and i really am not a fan of the costume designs but that's personal opinion.

I also have concerns that the are drip feeding stuff in but we might not get the payback. maybe I've been burned by certain other shows recently, lol.

I've been watching it, it's good, I'm enjoying it enough to keep watching, but it is kinda dull in a lot of places. I find myself caring more about what's going on in the earth flashbacks but maybe that's just because I need more explosions.

I like how Ridley scott kept is trademark white blood for androids thing. Makes me wonder if it's supposed to be part of alien/promethious or do they just want people to think it's related when it isn't.

I'm expecting a twist to happen soon where
Spoiler:
they discover the creatures they've been eating used to be human, or are descendats or something. They already showed someone else living there, who's been there a long time.

Also, why can't Mother just fly down and see what's at the bottom of those sand worm pits?

Watched the first episode and... eh?

I presume some of its going to be explained, but the setup seems pretty ridiculous. 12 potential kids don't make a viable future society, no matter what.
Spoiler:
Obviously crazy & defective androids don't help

The 'social debate' is a bit stilted, and I'm not sure if the writers/director are aiming for a strawman criticism of atheism or are the types that think of atheism as a religion. But the lecture on the dangers of mysticism going straight into 'now recite all the meanings of the number 5 as it relates to life' was just straight up incongruous (mystic numerology!), making me suspect the latter.

This show might’ve weirded me out of watching season 2 after that finale.

Its unique, I’ll give it that, but it just seems to lack focus and stay consistent.

edit: With that said and after thinking about it for a few hours. I need to rewatch to hopefully understand wtf I just watched.

Lol, I really was talking about the show.

And for those of us who were worried about where the show was heading...

Spoiler:
It went full fething crazy

Yeah, I'm trying to process what's happened. Here are my initial thoughts/questions:

Spoiler:
Did Marcus start to get Necromancer super powers from eating the eyes, or is he just looking progressively worse due to exposure to the planet? The voices talk to the boy and told him things that were true, so I guess the voices are legit. Alien baby birth, ala Eraser Head. So something is capable of corrupting both the androids and the humans. The androids are now on the other side of the planet where the voices told the boys not to go? I guess they'll find an oppositional power to the power influencing the boy?

That finale just reinforced the idea that the series is on the "lots of mysteries no answers" path. I feel like investing more time in it is just going to lead to disappointment.

Maybe they're all in purgatory? Or the mamma android will wake up and it'll all be a dream? I've only seen the first episode so can't say for certain.

So
Spoiler:
Was the guy in rags supposed to be one of those ancient people from Promethius? And here creating a different kind of alien than Aliens? I knew pretty much from the beginning that the creatures were gonna end up being some kinda humany thing. I'm glad we now know what's at the bottom of the snake holes.

This show is just another Lost, mysteries for mystery's sake. I like it enough to keep on watching though.

The weirdness only accelerates after the first episode.

Yeah, I'm thinking the production meeting for this was like the Key and Peele sketch of the "Gremlins 2" production meeting, where everyone's idea was accepted.

I was ok with the first episode weirdness as long as it gets resolved (mostly) along with the rest by the end of the season leaving only a few hanging threads. It was refreshing to see something that wasn't a post-2016 reboot of a beloved property with various narratives and agendas slathered on so much that it was almost unrecognizable.

I am glad I chose not to watch it and see how the season ended. So much great stuff out and I have such limited time now.

Actually they did resolve one mystery, you get to see what’s at the bottom of the pits.

I actually think things came into focus more now with the season ender.

Spoiler:
Seems like it’s all dripping with Christian allegory. The planet - or perhaps more specifically the non-tropical side of the planet - seems to be the Garden of Eden. Devolved humans and Neanderthal skulls are there because it’s humanity’s origin point. Its original home, not its new one. Sol is a malevolent entity bound there - note the serpent themes throughout - probably in the ‘temple’. Mother’s baby is presumably an Antichrist or nephilim figure. From the beginning, Mother and Father seemed to be in an Adam and Eve role, but of course this seems to be an after-the-fact Garden, with a large chunk of the planet irradiated/wasted/cursed.

This is off the cuff...will probably have more to say later after I chew on it more.

I said previously I was really on the fence with this one and it could go either way for me.

Then episode 9 got really interesting and pulled me in and I thought "I like where this is going".

Then episode 10 lost me again...

I have a theory of where it's going but if I'm right it will be very clichéd..

I am now really liking the Mother and Father relationship now though. It took a while to build but the fact that they seem more human is interesting.

But episode 10 was just a bit too daft for me if I'm honest.

Loving the pulp feel so far. The first few episodes were definitely the highlight though.
