The joy of Custodes, each one is almost a squad of something else! Valerian looks good, looking forward to seeing what is next

@Captain Brown - Hey, you've got to start somewhere...

@gobert - Thanks, gobert. Fortunately, what's next appears to be some friends for Valerian, as we'll see below.

+ + +

With Valerian out of the way, you might've thought Aleya was the sensible next choice to make progress on, but as I haven't decided on what I want to do with SoS armour yet, that wasn't the case.

Instead, I've worked through a unit of Custodian Guard for Valerian to lead - I definitely prefer the spear poses to the sword & board looks, and not just because the swords are silly chonky.

Steps

CG - Rebasecoated the scroll-y bits on the Vexilla with Wraithbone (thrice - it didn't want to go on smoothly over the Leadbelcher, but that could just be my pot of the stuff, so YMMV)
CG - Went over the Wraithbone with Skeleton Horde
CG - Lightly drybrushed the helmet plumes with Fenrisian Grey
CG - Built the bases
CG - Picked out some metal details on the torsos with Leadbelcher, as well as tidying up some metals on the Guardian Spears

5 Custodian Guard

Next on deck should probably be finishing off those two Hivestorm heavy rubble piles, as well as working on the Generatorum Hub. I've got 11 Neurogaunts ready to base, along with some of the stuff I built in January, so I should probably see about sorting that too, as well as building 5 Custodes Wardens and a Skitarii Marshal.

They look great - the purple and gold is very complimentary.

Lovely set of Custodes, I’m a sucker for purple and gold! The blue on their spear blades is really nice, is it really just a coat of sotek green!? Looks blue to my old eyes

@Zambro - Thanks for the kind words, Zambro. I'm not taking credit for the colour combination, though - the gold/purple combination is meant to represent the Aquilan Shield group within the Custodes, and it seemed the simplest scheme to replicate

@gobert - It's a smooth coat of Sotek "Green" (which is a bit of a misnomer to me), with a Nuln Oil pass over the top. Depending on your undercoat, you might need a couple of passes for the Sotek to sit smoothly, though - it didn't seem keen on behaving over Leadbelcher, for example.

+ + +

Another pair of pieces completed - I'm not going to argue that two rubble sections should probably be quicker than this, but at least they're done. And in getting them done, I've settled on colours for other elements within that box, which in theory should make painting other pieces from it quicker.

Not that I should really make a start on any until I've finished other WIPs off, anyway.

Two heavy rubble sections from Operation: Hivestorm

Rubble with a Bloodmaster, for scale

Next on the to-do list is a unit of 5 Custodian Wardens, including Vexilla. This will allow me to check the Talons off my 2025 goal list, as they'll be the second unit for my "two units and a character" goal for the faction.

I do want to get Aleya and the two SoS units done as well, but they kinda fall under the heading of "bonus content", and I should probably make progress on a second faction before I return to them - unless I have a sudden bout of inspitation for how I want Aleya to come out, at least, given she's already part-painted.

I'll probably also try to continue some progress on Stilts and on the ArchMagos Prime, as well as seeing if I can get the Marshal based and undercoated.

Nice rubble, very low key

Loving the rubble, Hivestorm is such a cool set of terrain. Have fun painting up the rest!
