I don't have the time to watch and summarise the AMAs anymore but I did have a quick scan and pulled these 2 images - bottom section of the ship to give an idea of scale.

So a quick reminder that the Caves PM closes today with shipping for non-prismacast rewards starting shortly.

And Porthaven launches 1st April (no joke!)

After much agonizing I ended up getting prepainted Demonic Cave and Belly of the Beast, no subthemes.

I don't know why they left it to the final day of the pledge manager, but here's a visual representation of all the Caves stretch goals together:

And some examples of final painted sprues:

Pretty... suboptimal... that they're marketing this with a bigass ship but everything else is focused on land instead of what the ship would encounter at sea.

I agree.

I like the musicians..well, the minotaur.

This looks like a good set.
It could be the starting place of many adventures.
I am sure that other sets will expand on the theme more.
Looking forward to see what other sets are to come.
I just hope that they can start to get the figures to scale. As previous releases seem to be all over the place scale wise.

The minotaur jumped out to me as well.

As someone who's not in the market so much for a giant ship, I do appreciate that they're still going to have other options available.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

EDIT misread and now corrected

Price for the ship is being discussed on Discord looks like the proposed price is $179USD (€172) plus VAT for the ship only pledge (pius SG and sails are included). Ghost Ship option and any possible prepaint will cost more. Price of the ship drops to $116 in the higher pledge levels but those will cost more than $179 its just the ship has a lower cost within the overall price.

At $179 that's close to the $195 for 2 core sets, 3 subthemes and SG in Caves so value wise I guess it depends on if the ship matches up to 2 cores and 2 to 3 sub themes. It's lower than Reapers current price of $200USD for their ship. Price doesn't sound unreasonable but will depend on what else is in there that $179 becomes €212 with VAT added.

A D&L set is just 1 or 2 unique sprues repeating over and over, the ship will be around 14 unique sprues, so obviously the investment is much much higher.

I have a huge tote of stuff from a D&L kickstarter one or two sessions ago and will likely never clear it all. I simply don't have room!

The idea was to have at least a couple of sets that are universal and aren't necessarily tied to the nautical theme, as it's pretty niche. A lot of people that are interested in the nautical theme can still pick up the tavern set, but those that aren't will still have something to grab.

Half of the core sets are focused on the "port city", while the other half focuses more on the ship and nautical aspects of the campaign. The vast majority of stretch goals will also be more sea-based.

I think the final tool count ended up being 16... more if you include the Ghost Ship. It's definitely a big investment but we're hoping that people will like the ship. It will also be available pre-painted which is already a big advantage over other ships made for TTRPGs/Tabletop games.

You could always use the ship as a storage container :p

AMA updates

- Porthaven - Early WIP of ship shown, modular, grid system, 2 or 3 levels high, depending on how they do the Captains quarters. Cost "half price of competitors". Will have cannons, barrels, crew minis. Needs 11 or 12 sprues. Top level removable to access inside. Prismacast unlikely. Sails are mock up only and might be a different material (like cloth) to keep costs and tools down - not a fan of this but HIPS sails would take up several more tools so I see were they are coming from.

Was hoping that "half the price of competitors" was a little more literal. I did get the reaper one at the kickstarter price which was $110. Was hoping this one would have been close to that. I want the ship but dont know how often I would use it... and at that price...

I hope they do cloth sails. I think they look better than plastic anyways.

My Reaper pirate ship is one of my favorite pieces, so I'm pretty tempted. The ship looks nice and huge, but I will need to see what else is included with the ship at that price. The human size miniatures I got with my Dungeons and Lasers Woodhaven set were way too small for me to use with my collection so I hope they have lots of scale agnostic stuff like monsters.

Either way, what they have accomplished as a company is pretty impressive and I wish them well.

Assuming you grab the All In pledge, the ship should come out to about $117. Accounting for inflation, our ship should be cheaper than the Reaper one when it was first available if you grab it through the all-in ($100 in 2019 is $124 in 2025 on average). I've been told this is the biggest wargaming/RPG plastic kit ever made, and we really can't go any lower.

As someone who is not really into DnD, what's the appeal of Dungeons and Lazers? Do you all use the models in your campaigns?

I know I'm a bit of an outlier, but I use models to work on my comic. So having all kinds of interesting civilians is very helpful:

And before committing to making Big Fantasy Epic a reality, I would have grabbed a lot of these just to paint since they're really nice, characterful models. I only have the Dungeons & Lazers townsfolk set, but it's been keeping me very busy.

YMMV...

Ship and ship crew core set. The masts use a pin system so can be assembled and disassembled without gluing for storage. The scatter in the sets can be bought separately as add ons so if you just want the ship scatter but not the crew just get the add on.

They are planning cloth sails. The renders show billowing sails but I’m not sure how they can achieve this with cloth which would likely just hang loose and not billow in the wind so it will be interesting to see the solution.

Sew wires in the edges. I have a number of action figures with cloth capes that do this and it works great!

My concern is figures wont fit inside with the roof on. Archon has a tendency to underscale and forget that base height adds another 5MM or so. I got a number of market stalls from woodhaven that look off with merchants being taller than them.

I wouldn't say under scale rather than models have complications that don't exist in real life. Models often are waving swords about, and I can't count many ships that have ceilings high enough to do that. In fact having been on HMS Victory they are probably making the floors too tall for the "scale".
