100 Guardsmen for $200.

Call it 10 heavy weapon teams (20 guys), 40 push fit Cadians (RIP) and 40 mutipart ones with the upgrade sprue. Oh and a command squad. So OK 105.

Now that would be useful.

I think it was direct only when Apoc came out, unlike the green tide or space marine battle company boxes. It came with a bunch of the metal at the time cadian officers and special weapons, a bunch of infantry, and heavy weapon teams. Can't find a picture of it, but I remember it, alongside the other Apoc bundles back in 2008

Those Apoc Bundles where fantastic when they came out. I had just started working for GW then and those boxes at 50% off where fantastic. I got two Tau ones and a order later from FW and I had a wicked awesome FW Tau army. 2008 was good for gaming. I miss those box sets so much. Such a fantastic deal. It was also nice to see ForgeWorld get some love from mainline GW.

I think I only got the one with 10 CSM and 10 Chaos Spawn.

Oh man I miss those apoc boxes.

At the time I'd gotten the crisis suit box, the one with 2 hammer heads and a skyray, I got the space marine battle force one for a steal, I think I payed little over 300$. I want to say I got the linebreaker box with three vindicators but I may not have. I honestly don't remember. They were great savings, at the time.

Me, too. In hindsight I should have bought another box or two. Ten Spawn is just so little.

Friend of mine got the Space Marine Company box. That was a big box.

I picked up a pair of the double Monolith boxes. Great way to expand your Heavy Support section. Shame how that turned out in recent months...

GW values profit over anything else. The army boxes mean less revenue vs people spending money to get several units and boxes. I am still surprised that GW even sells these anymore, I think they put out a limited amount of them to advertise more then sell them as they will be limited distribution I am sure.

Up until last year they were over producing them and they sat on shelves for up to two years after release. I got two of the Nighthaunt forces late last year, and some of the Stormcast forces sat longer.

Are these shops like my FLGS and have no online footprint? Seriously there are plenty of takers out there especially if there is a discount or if they have free shipping attached. My FLGS had some items like this in stock and I posted it in a thread and then got PMs asking for the store info. Once they contacted the store they arranged for shipping and got the sale. Most places are just bad at communicating their stock.

Sometimes yeah. At least for the popular Christmas boxes and such. Heck there were copies of Cursed City still lurking around well after the whole disaster of them running out - because some shops don't really do online at all. Others might have websites that are old or not used or not keyworded right so they don't generate much attention. Or heck they just don't update them all that often for their needs so they rarely reflect current stock so something appears months later as it cycles into the slower online updates.

Add to that sometimes a loyal/regular customer puts something on order and then never collects or cancels and the store held into it for longer than normal. Heck right now I'd wager some stores might even get sold-out stock because it got stuck in postage and they just never got it when everyone else did.

Of course there's also boxes that just aren't as wildly popular or which GW made in a greater number (its hard to tell when we don't have the hard numbers to know which it is or if its a bit of both); or good boxes which just get overshadowed by others and thus they last out. Heck a year or two back there was a pretty great Slaves to Darkness box that just didn't sell that I was very tempted to get for AoS - I didn't in the end, but that lasted the whole year and a bit more if I recall right before it was gone.

They have an online presence, but I don't know how hard they push GW product through it.

Just had a quick look at their website - one of the IG battleforces, and three of the KO ones, all at 20% off, if I'm reading things correctly.

Yep, I got that slaves to darkness box you're referring to almost a full year after it released, had my store special order it for me from GW. Same store still has 3 copies of Aether War (battle box from a couple years ago with Karadron v Tzeentch), a copy of Pariah Nexus, and a few other sold out limited releases from the past couple years sitting on shelves. IIRC they didn't fully sell out of all of last years holiday battleforces until somewhere around june or july, and they still had a couple battleforces from the year prior to that kicking around until earlier this year too. Theres another store that still has a copy of Shadow War Armageddon on the shelf. Theres plenty of inventory to go around at small out-of-the-way shops that don't have a robust online presence.

I managed to find an Indomitus box in an online store as late as end of May this year just by browsing for other stuff. Didn't show up when I had tried specifically on that store to look for Indomitus boxes. Have bought 35 Indomitus boxes in total and 33 of them were bought between late February and now, only 2 were from the MTO. Looking around for other stuff online(sometimes in local stores as well, got 4 Indomitus right off a shelf) and you stumble on old boxes just like you said. Places like FB marketplace is also a good place to look. Always someone regretting buying a huge box and not opening it wanting to quickly off load it without checking prices.

Splitting up the content in the boxes and selling the individual parts while looking for other things I want from the surplus. A box here and there. Some from friends who couldn't be bothered to resell it themselves.

Only done it with Indomitus boxes and more like a service if people only want an individual part and don't want to buy the whole sprue for stuff. Even recommend people to go buy from GW instead of me sometimes since it ends up cheaper if they want BGV, eradicators and the 3 characters on that sprue for example.

Not doing the whole thing of preorder a bunch of boxes of each FOMO release and then sell to people who have no choice but to buy from you because there is no other supply from alternative sources. Like first months of Indomitus or Cursed City. Know of scalpers who bought 50+ boxes of Indomitus at release, I have no idea how they got so many in the first wave, but I couldn't do what they do. They screw over other gamers while giving nothing to the community. I get some extra cash to buy minis for to make it cheaper to buy 3 scarabs than buying a whole box of warriors + scarabs. Win win there.

Yeah I think I spoke it wrong when I said it, I got the one with the 106 marines, 8 rhinos and 1 razorback for the 300 something USD. They were, and I think I called it then, the best deals we'd ever see from GW.

There were a lot of great battleforce boxes in the past indeed, that one included.

Maybe a little overwhelming for a single player but perfect to split it in half (barring the razorback + command) with someone also interested in marines, as 6 full tac squads and 8 rhinos are probably too many, regardless of the price deal and 300$ isn't really low cost despite the massive savings: two SM reasonably balanced forces to start the army could have been great for that price though. I second the feeling that it was probably the best deal in the history of GW kits.

That is still a lot to spend no doubt but it was worth it for the uses for the grouping. Really a bit overwhelming but at least it's like an army in a box. Missing specialist items like dreads and such but really at that point you are rocking so many workable tools. Wouldn't win you all the games but would be quite good bones for a good list.

As for the tac squads and rhinos, you'd be surprised how many rhinos you can allocate if you have more than one flavor of marine or sisters, chaos, etc. Same goes for Tac squads, I'd say the assault marines generally end up the things you were more hmmmm about, but if you could get the weapon load outs you could run them as vanguard vets and do some good work.

Death Guard: Plaguefester Warband - For Death Guard adherents in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, this Battleforce is available to pre-order on Saturday. Nurgle devotees in other regions will have a short wait before marching into battle – chalk it up to rusted joints.

Adeptus Mechanicus: Omnissiah’s Talon - For those in the United States and Canada, Forge World Memphis** has had its requisitions delayed by solar interference, so the Omnissiah’s Talon box won’t arrive until early next year.

Ossiarch Bonereapers: Mortisan Tithe-Echelon - Those dusting off their knucklebone abacuses ready for the tithe in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia will be able to pre-order this Battleforce on Saturday. Everywhere else will need to wait a little longer for this set to arrive – but it’s on its way.
