I don't think I've like dany of the Dark Reaper heads through history - and these are no different.

As said though - there will clearly things you can easily do about that if you want.

Got to admit I thought the missiles came out of the slits in the end, not that the end bits was the warhead of the missile, RPG style.

That could still be the case. The "warhead" could be like a missile magazine. The true missiles do come out of the slits, but the warhead only holds so many, so once it's empty, they swap for a new warhead.

The missiles do come out of the slits, as shown in artwork. The Eldar as first described in I think it was 5th edition use chambered pods of missiles instead of loading one individual big missile. Each tip or cone would be a magazine of missiles.

Does anyone know what the skull the Exarch is holding is meant to be? Or is it just a skull?

Still not quite 100% on what the whole gun part is for though. Advanced exhaust management so they don’t get a face fulla fire every time they shoot? Or maybe a shuricat-like gravitational accelerator to give the missiles their launch kick?

While it's a bit difficult to make out, the Exarch did still have the vanes...

Clearly the Exarch has a dedicated skull picker clamp thing, and he took the time to paint the Dark Reaper rune on it.

I at first thought whether it was a reference to the Web of Skulls or maybe it would be the CC weapon, but I don't think there have been any teasers of new wargear for the Exarch.
I still don't know why they bother including the Shuriken Cannon, as there seems to be little game reason to take it. It only seems to be there as a nod and link to the Maugetar.

It might get some kind of different ability tied to the Exarch himself, ala the Instigator Bolt-Carbine for the Eliminators' Sergeant.

Any guesses about the base size for the Dark Reapers? 28mm like the Howling Banshees?

This is the first new set im unsure about. The face plates look a bit naff, but for me I think its how slight they look in the legs compared to the old sculpts. As mentioned the paint job doesnt help with. Need to see what the community can do with them.

Struggling to think of any 3rd party head alternatives at present.

Someone posted this art on reddit, looks like the new dark reapers took influence straight from the old sketches by Jes Goodwin. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, and I hope the swooping hawks rumor turns out to be true.

Because they've had rules and models for an Shuriken Cannon armed Exarch. If they drop the rules, people with existing models armed with Shuriken Cannons will moan. If they keep the rules but remove it from the model kit then people will moan that they can't take that option with the new kit.

GW generally aim to not invalidate models or have options with models for them.

That they can get somewhat better at it over time? Maybe its a product of Duncan leaving, but I remember it being more subtle and with colors that worked with the base paint, not just stood out as a stark contrast.

Confused as to the problem.

It... looks like crap, and they 100% use pictures to sell models?

Well the Reapers look pretty good - I have plenty but nice

Good to see all the Aspects are emerging in plastic.

Be nice to have one new Aspect though.

My guess is that it is a slight nod to the old Web of Skulls that the original 2nd Edition Dark Reaper Exarch used to carry.

Not sure if that piece of wargear is still even a thing.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

They changed a lot about Aspect Warriors with the 3rd Ed redesigns, and they were so well received that they were redesigned again in 4th Ed to look more like the 2nd Ed versions.

3rd edition was a strange time. Tyranids got a massive make over for 3rd edition which all barring the Red Terror, gaunts and warriors (which had a soft update semi recently but kept their look), were pretty much retired very fast and replaced from 4th edition and onward

The 3rd ed designs deviated from Jes' concepts pretty heavily.

He designed the 2nd ed ones and he designed the 4th ed ones based on his 2nd ed designs.

He also did design work on the 4th ed tyranids.

As he's head of mini design now, every design is going through him, or starting with him, even though he's not sculpting them anymore.
