Subject: Anyone else fed up of GW overhyping everything
Eh. I do feel they've devalued some words in their constant hype (to the point that 'best ever' now means 'average' in GW-speak).
I'm actually more concerned that the tau codex article admits that 40k isn't getting squat for 2-3 months, just the one tau character model and some delayed books:
Codex: T’au Empire will arrive in early 2022, and with the Genestealer Cults and Adeptus Custodes codexes also landing in the same period, it’s going to be an exciting few months for Warhammer 40,000.
Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I was really disappointed. I opened my email hoping for another Primaris Lt because those are the most exciting things in the world. Instead I see a Tau codex. 2 thumbs down GW

Not even particularly exciting for us T'au players - darkstrider is sept locked and we don't know enough about Core, etc to evaluate the value of any of these changes.

Don't worry, the new Darkstrider mini is actually going to include a "cinematic" 50mm base with a new Primars Lt. sprue as "basing material"! It'll be a limited run, though, so you'll want to pre-order now...

Latter day corporate capitalism. Everyone involved is full of $#!7€ and expects to be paid for it. 35dollars for a single 28mm plastic model, people need convincing.

Oh, given all the Eldar rumours that's really disappointing.

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.
Please report to your nearest GW store for attitude readjustment. Take your wallet.

Let's hope that's another case of them using the wrong words. The wait for a functional CSM codex has gone on long enough.

GW either believe every thing they release is blowing our minds or they are just getting lazy and think hyperbole is an effective marketing tool

And gw selling everything new as 'bestest ever' can't be about being 'obviously ridiculous and metaphorical and designed to get your attention '?
Come on....
Its advertising 101. Like those ridiculous meerkats or the go compare guy. Or any number of new exercise gizmos or dietary supplements.
GW either believe every thing they release is blowing our minds or they are just getting lazy and think hyperbole is an effective marketing tool
It is.
Nothing about being 'lazy' and largely about being effective. Advertising 101. You might not like it but it is effective, hence you talking about it for example.
They're sticking to the playbook that pretty much every one else also uses. And ^glances at share price and sales^, it's working. Somebody somewhere will think this is great. It will blow their mind.
And hey, you don't have to buy it or read it if you don't want. Just shrug and move on.

I feel very confident in saying that if they don't hype the gak out of everything but simply say "next week we will show you the Tau codex cover" instead of "Huge reveal next week!!!!" their sales will not change by a single cent.

It isby advertising 101, maybe it’s “how to establish and maintain a market presence with an existing customer base 101”. No body on this thread has yet said they like the adverts and that they make them want to buy more or that anyone gets excited when they receive them.
It’s internet advertising, apple do it as well. I watched the apple conference where they revealed the 4k Apple TV and a guy came out showing that you could play cross road on it and the audience reacted like he’d announced a cure for cancer.

I tune out their marketing and never read any of their stuff, I just look at the pictures and the prices and decide if I want stuff. I am pretty vulnerable to FOMO though so I'm trying to engage less with GW to focus on stuff I already have.

Does the "preorder promise" hurt or help you with the FOMO bits?

In all reality, it could just mean March.
January for Custodes and GSC.
early Feb for Tau plus rest of month for other systems
March for whatever comes first...Eldar, chaos, combined box, who knows?

I have some, but not total, sympathy for them here. They're getting rocked by COVID + Brexit when it comes to their shipping lines I'd imagine.

I dunno- if you were them would you take the risk?
Exciting beats glum in my book.
And lets say they do go glum- I'm pretty sure the haters will still have a go at how gw are 'boring' and 'uninspiring' and 'obviously inconpetent' because even they can't muster up any enthusiasm for their own stuff.
My point stands. Don't Like it, don't read it..shrug and move on. Its not hurting anybody.

I think a key difference here is that Apple doesn't do this on a like a bi-weekly basis and is a sizable purchase. GW feels non-stop about this and it's about over damn near everything. It's like the 'holiday' offer deals for car sales, they run ads non-stop about the lastest deals to the point that everyday is a holiday apparently. When the product is on sales everyday, because it's a holiday somewhere, is it really a sale?
Red Bull gives you wings is their tagline and they make short adverts on that premise. However, those are commercials and advertisements, not new product reveals.
The latest, literal James Workshop ad almost seems mocking at this point.

I mean Apple hyped up a £1K screen stand. Sure they don't do it as often as GW, but that's because Apples products are released at a slower rate. That said you can bet they will make a huge amount of noise about the next mobile phone that is only marginally better than the phone you've got now (and some of that is just where the old phone gets a few sneaky updates to make it perform marginally worse than before )
James Workshop is supposed to be teasing/mocking/jovial. Also its hardly much when the last week has had multiple Eldar sneak-peaks in the advent system. It's almost certain that Eldar are getting at least one new aspect warrior so that little bit is just a bit of fun nothing more.
