I think the resin should pads gave a better silhouette, honestly. These sit too high and look like they're floating.
Yeah - being a bit lower and connected to the front armour might look better.

Also agreed, but with that one quibble noted these are pretty swish. A nice antidote to the disappointment of the Cataphractii redesign.

Seriously improvement on the originals.

I’ll expect the other weapons to be along in a second set in due course.

Nice, but updated rules so soon is a bit naughty.

It's likely the unit entry is just rejigged because they accidentally made the kit without their default weapon?

There's also 6 in the box, so I can see the min unit size going up.

I first saw the picture of these on the IW subreddit and the title was "new obliterators just dropped". I have to agree, these look great for Mechanicum but also seem ripe for conversions.

I'll probably pick some up just to have them, though I'm worried this will continue the plastic Mechanicum trend of being a million little fiddly bits.

Sober thought on the “but where’s me Volkite and C-Beamer”?

As I posted earlier, I suspect they’re coming in a second set. Only suspect, can’t prove owt. But I will point, for better or worse, to the new Cataphractii.

But at least with the plastic? It’s not “one of each weapon and go eff yourself” that the resin ones are.

Not quite as I’d like it (all weapons, one box please). But I think it may be an improvement rather than a compromise?

Do we think the Secutors will use the same bodies (as with the resin ones) or be their own thing?

Same bodies.

So thinking 4 sprues per box- body sprue of 3 bodies with servo skulls and one or two head options, weapons sprue of 3 different weapon poses for 2 weapons plus 3 servo arms, maybe the second head option.

Then second box later with a sprue containing cbeamers and volkite, maybe alternate heads.

Secutors could be just a different weapon sprue as well true. Smaller guns means they could probably fit like 3 different options onto the sprue instead of 2 bigger guns.

Appearance wise, to me these are an improvement on the level of going from the old Armorcast Warhound to the FW Mars pattern warhound. There is some character in the old versions that is changed, but the general feel is still there, and the details are both much sharper and look a lot more like they actually function.

Rules changes are likely just a change in unit size, swapping which is the default gun, and an outside hope for a keyword to maybe run them in a detachment with the new skitarii.

Cataphractii are going to a 6 model kit, now we have the new 6 man box of myrmadons, maybe soon they will show off a 6 model kit for Solar aux ogryn?

Wow, these look terrible. The heads are too far forward. What's the point of shoulder pads that don't sit on, much less cover, your shoulders? And what the heck are those right arms supposed to even be?

There are big pistons in the shoulders that the pads sit on top of.

You refer to the weak proportions imposed upon you by the prison of your own, decaying, weak, flesh. Once you embrace the strength of steel and the will of the machine you too can embrace the purity of perfect form and function.

Ergo this isn't like Space Marines who are a human placed inside a suit; there's no person inside the machine with a Mechanicum, its all one body. So it doesn't have to have "proper human proportions". Plus some of the grim-dark is having missformed proportions. Or walking with a cane; or a stooped back. There's a kind of twisted element to the Mechanicum/mechanicus. It runs alongside the other twists like having armies which are basically lobotomised people shambling with machinery. Even though we know that the Mechanicus can do way better if they really want too and focus their technical skills.

I think these look pretty good. And there is scope for converting them to make them look more ‘out there’. I’ll be getting some.

The cc weapon is probably intentionally basic so as to not detract from whatever the Secutors will get.

Yeah, I'm generally not one to defend GW, but it seems like a lot of the complaints are solved by the fact that this is plastic so it'll be a lot easier to convert.

Well they currently have big two-handed axes but it wouldn’t surprise me if options showed up along with more shoulder guns. Twin power fists could be good. Or some sort of extremely short ranged (melee only) melta weapon. Sort of a repeating meltabomb.

Twin drills would be cool too. I have some bits from the Killa Kan sprue (and I guess from Kromlech), originally for some Servitor conversions. Hmm, actually I have enough Secutors but...
