I will prime some 8th edition high elf spearmen
they're still in storage, but I prepared some bases.
I wont be going for 56 lol, 20 rank & file ready spearmen would mean to stick to the table with a magic phase.
extra nuggie

I suppose I should take the opportunity to paint a whack of goblins… Alternatively I could just leave them to rot in a box for another 3 years… or five… I could leave them longer than five… happily.

Can’t say the prospect fills me with anything approaching enthusiasm. More of a dull duty like jury service or something.

Done! Got 11 not counting the terrain doodads.
Finally finished this rescue box! This was fun

Airbrush pump broke and this guy did not get a light dusting.

All together

I don't think you are required to paint a whole boatload of models for this challenge. Just a few rank and file models would fit the theme just fine.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I’m the last vier gone overboard with what I planned to do for these things but this time I’ll go small, my entry for this month will be 5 regular mk6 marines from the age of darkness box to finish off the squad I started.

I should be able to power through them up until the details at least pretty quickly. Painting them in a metallic alpha legion scheme.

Of course, you’re right. It’s more the feeling that this is an opportunity where I would be able to take advantage of a little community spirit to spur me on to complete another block of twenty gobos who haven’t seen the light of day since I burned out on goblins after doing about 80 of them. I’ve got some real old classics that maybe will finally see some paint if I quit moaning about it long enough to pull my paint brush out.

@Mothsniper: Great video, cheers. And spectacular nids! Love the wild colour.

They are legion, for they are six (and that's as big as a proper Slaaneshi squad should be anyway):

Ersatz Chaos Androids - the 'leader' with the eight-pointed star of chaos just like the one that appeared in White Dwarf, although inevitably for me it's more of an eight-pointed blob of chaos, but never mind. Nothing fancy on the paint job, I just did 'em as a batch over the past few days, although I am quite pleased with their 'numbers', using the chaos runes from The Lost and the Damned. I felt like the distinctive gauss barrels had to go, and since the GW store didn't have any easy (and cheap) sources of autoguns en masse, I used the front halves of Lego Star Wars blaster rifles, of which I've got like a billion spare anyway - they don't look much like the Space Crusade mini's rifle, but they don't look like Necron weapons either and that's the main thing. If you're wondering what's up with the feet and upper jaws being gold, just copying the original android's colour layout. I painted their 'guts' purple, on the theory that the mad chaos squat who created them (I'll probably convert him once we get the new squats) figured the easiest way to get a daemon to possess a machine was to stuff in just enough of a living victim to make it possess-able.

I think the Steel Legion are most in keeping with the theme this month.

Steel Legion pushes my nostalgia button, so that would get my vote.

But of course the correct answer is all of them!

I'm not going to get a lot of painting time this month, so 'We are Legion' is a bit of a stretch, unfortunately...
I'll do (at least one) Stormcast Vindictors; I reckon they are massed battleline fighters, so probably work for the theme.

Proof pic of the one I'll definitely get done. I'll do another proof pic if I manage to build the rest of the unit!

cheers,
Michael

I'm going to take the subjec title literally rather than the description, I'll paint some members of the fourth Legion. As many Iron warriors as I can manage this month, probably going for quantity rather than quality. Proof of the first lot, just what I have built at the moment, will try and focus on more line infantry if the models arrive on time

They have some basic silver basecoats added, hopefully ok for the challenge, hope to add more anyway.

And some progress on the first five

Just need some work on the black, a final wash and basing

Well if I’m gonna do this It’ll be these fellas.

Turns out I painted one of them already. But there’s plenty more in the unit so I’m just going to copy the scheme and finish it out. No command squad, sadly.

That movement tray brings back so many memories. You should flock those guys in goblin green.

Well at least if I don’t find time to paint the goblins I know I’ll get at least one vote for a painted and flocked movement tray.

Managed to get some hobby time in on my marines, all together and ready for priming when I finish work.

I have the next 2 days off and after doing all my testing on the first 5 members of this squad I’m somewhat confident I should be able to at least get these guys down to final details before I’m back at work on Thursday.

Gobin looks good as well.

Almost the entirety of my WHFB time was in 5th, and we played a TON. Everyone (except bretonians) used those green trays. They are so distinctly retro. I might no recognize the scupts, buy you rank them up on one of those and I’m right back in the mid 90’s.

@theCrowe: Those are some old, old goblins.

I have the first set of Marionettes finished apart from basing:

I wanted to make them look reflective, but it didn't really work. I have some ideas for the next set, though, so hopefully they'll be closer to what I imagined.

Look on the bright side. You have one more finished model than me and the month isn't half over yet.
