Ultramarine Chaplain with Hate to Spare

I'd been thinking of starting this thread for a while, because I've got a ton of "golden age GW" models that I've been panning on building/restoring/painting for a long time now. But I popped the idea in another thread around here and it was mentioned that it might make a good group thread too. I thought that was a swell idea, so here I am kicking it off!
So let's make it a party! I invite anyone who's working on any older models (21 and up as of time of posting) to pop in and show off their projects, oddities, nostalgia pieces and curiosities! I bet this could be real fun
Reminder, YOU don't have to be 21+, only your MODEL/s
My inaugural contribution will be a pair of Space Marine Captains. One of which is a bit of a cheat, since it's already done, but it shows the direction of the second. This guy with the Bionic Leg and Jump Pack is a re-visioning of my favorite Captain that I used back when I played 2nd Ed. The bionic leg was a dirty piece of Wargear that let you kick models out of close combat, which in turn allowed me to shoot at them with other models . He's based on a Captain model released in 1991 (I think).
The star of the show is the limited release Games Day 1999 Space Marine Captain. I've wanted to put this guy together for a long time now, and make him my default Captain for my Space Marine army. I've got his hand and a few guns all magnetized up so I can swap them around, and he'll be getting a back banner for the classic look. Additionally, I modeled up a romanesque crest (actually did 2 slightly different styles) and printed out a batch of them, with minor scale adjustments, to give him the appropriate badge of honor for my collection and "big hat" aesthetic.

I’m in the (procrastinating extended) process of stripping, rebuilding, and painting some of my old RTB01s, and I’ve got some metal Nids, some of which might be over the line.
And that’s just my active projects. If I dip deep into the PoS, there are all sorts of relics.
Always fun to see the old stuff come to light.

I've got only orks models that are that old but basically: Mad Dok Grotsnik, previous Ghazghkull model, ork boyz and some buggies and trukks which I've converted into the new buggies.
I've got plastic Hormagaunts, Genestealers and Termagants and several AM models which are also quite old, but I don't know how old exactly and unlike the orks those I've bought pretty recently so they aren't actually old.
Then I've got models that were never part of an actual force, that I've bought in the late 90s, early 2000s just to paint them. Chaos warriors, 5 plastic Chaos space marines, Chaos lord (Axe and Plasma pistol), SM devastators, SM attack bike, 3 metal/plastic Grey hunters, 4 metal valhallans, 4 metal catachans and a SM captain, off top of my head.

Love to see old models being updated interesting use of 3d printed bits.
Also have to point out that the Tau empire is old enough to drink now, even by American rules ...
Anyways this gives me an excuse to dig out my rune quest minis...

I've got a metal Eldar Army (sans Warp Spiders; they came out just after I bought the initial force) - with even a few metal guardians. No pics - most are just sprayed red (for Samm Hain) or bare metal.
I do also have these. I've been informed they're Necromundian Spyders, not Cadians. I remember getting them in a box of 30 back in the day. ( BTW, the leftmost Chimera is back from the day when every.track.piece.was.an.individual.part).
Of possible side interest, back in the day I scratch-built a Land Raider out of a pizza box (and GI Joe Vamp cannons) by upsizing an Epic Land Raider. I did so as I recall because the plastic kit wasn't available yet. I still have it, and recently did some work on it to bring it back in shape. You can see it in the image below, the 3rd one back (there's also a LOT of old minis there too, including Terminators from the 1E Space Hulk game, RB-01 lime green marines in the far back, a Land Speeder from the 2E? boxed set and a Crusader with metal bits)

I recently painted these guys who seem to fit the theme and current vibe of the thread pretty well.
I’m also working on some goblins of a particularly dusty vintage too so I’ll post a pic of those here when they’re done too.

Most of my old models are long gone, spread throughout the realm and in the hands of others.
I believe these Spear Elves are the oldest I have left. These are the first models I ever owned and I'm quite fond of them.

I am pretty certain that every model here is over 21 years of age. (The Wave Serpents are the original Forgeworld upgrade kits versions...so they might be 20 or 19 years...but the cassis they are on are all the original Falcons from 1997).
Cheers,

I have been having fun lately digging out old minis from the 40k 2nd ed box that somehow became my 'dump everything not being used here' container and giving them a fresh coat of paint. Don't get me wrong, I think the new stuff is amazing, but I really want my warband to include the whole history of 40k, as far as I can manage.
The Noise Marines and daemonettes came from ebay, everything else was just lying around this whole time waiting. As it happens just this morning I bought an original Obliterator (you remember, the ones that looked like absolute arse? My theory is 'comedy = tragedy + time' so it'll be fun now), and from my original collection waiting for me to tackle them, there's one of the old 'Rhino crew' space marines (he's got his foot up to be posed leaning on the spiky ram bar, and he's smoking a cigar), a v1 Cyclone Terminator to be chaosified (always thought the v1 Cyclone was the best looking launcher), and - I'm putting this one off until I'm really confident in my painting skills - an original Keeper of Secrets.
And while we're talking retro, I recently re-shelved my old squads, including these Eldar Guardians painted as Tarot cards, for reasons I can't entirely remember but I'd probably just seen The Bitter Suite. (I know they're not Golden Demon standard or anything, but I look at these nowadays and just can't figure out how I managed to paint them - eyes getting old, I guess.)
And some of the oldest miniatures I own (although I did repaint them during 3rd edition), my beloved Harlequins - I played Space Hulk before 40k, but even before Space Hulk I'd got WD105 with them on the cover and got as many as my pocket money would cover, because 'sci-fi plus unnecessary theatrics' were my thing even way back then.

Conversions of old metal meganobz circa 1995 to cyborks. Cyborks were an option to be a painboss' bodyguard. I have been rebasing old models in case these ever become legal again, or I can figure what I could use them as.

Finished my Games Day Captain!
@H.B.M.C - I've got two of those guys! One in my older army scheme, and one in bare metal I'll probably do in OG Ultramarine scheme. Back in 5th-6th edition I made an updated version (custom Sicarius) out of the Captain released in the 3rd ed Command box. Also old enough to drink Here's the ancient Captain collection all together.
Lots of memories from the various posts in this thread.
@Captain Brown - I love classic Eldar! I have an array of those models myself that I hope to get around to painting up sometime.
@Daia T'Nara - Those Chaos models look fantastic, and I really dig the Tarot Card Guardians. That feels extra 90's to me for some reason. I have some of those old Harlequins too, and I'm NOT looking forward to painting those
For my next nostalgia project, I want to complete my "codex catalogue collection" from the 2nd Ed. Ultramarines codex. I've had it half-painted for years now, probably, and I want to finish it out.

You know you’ve been collecting too long when you have more captains painted for your chapter then there are companies to lead. Guys drinking at the bar are in the middle. One of them is not actually a captain, but a Lt. commander And while I’m poking around my gallery, a sample of other old boys:

^Oh yeah, I've got a whole lot more Captains than Companies for sure. I've started magnetizing some of the ranged weapons, hopefully that reduces the number of models for options. I'll get to more Terminator Captains at some point.
Love those old beakies and Termies too.
@theCrowe - nice work on those refinished goblins, those look really slick!

Oooh, Ive done a few of these recently:

and these old terminators:
I think I need to take a few better pictures of them sometime.
Also, weirdly enough, I also decided today I was going to finally finish a conversion I started about 12 years ago:
One inquisitor scale assassin to daemon princess
Turns out (according to this site https://miniset.net/sets/gw-99111399014 ) these were released 1 August 2001 - she turns 21 today!

I always thought the WE were the best looking of the 3 branches of WHFB elfdom.
These were raised from the depths of the PoS as a first try with the new contrast paints.
Never got scouts, but the waywatchers were better in most every way.
Built this guy before I learned what pinning was. All metal bar the wings. Still intact.

Thanks insectum, the grots nearly brought me to tears doing them all in 1 batch! on my WIP mat at the moment is an OG High Elf Tiranoc Chariot. I need to sort out a bow and some arrows from somewhere as the quiver I bought on eBay was missing them.
Loving the Saturnine Terminator sherrypie! Some lovely Elven brethren too, theCrowe’s riot of autumn colours is great, the shields a particular highlight!

Those 2nd ed chaplains are among the best minis ever made IMHO. They just ooze character. The bionic skull one has been tending to the faith of my Ultras since time immemorial. I like how they captured his spirit and re-imaged him across the rubicon primaris in the chaplain from the indominus box.
