With the thread about the new league vehicle asking the question is it the best kit ever of a vehicle I thought I’d ask what peoples faves are. No criteria, just 40k vehicle kits past and present.

My choices would be either the stompa or the baneblade, can’t decide. Both were kits I had home made years ago and to get official beautifully detailed plastic models of them was an absolute joy. There are tonnes of great vehicles out there but these two have a soft spot in my heart for sure.

Like I said in the other thread, my favorite is the box style Dreadnought (whatever it's in-game designation is).
And a real close 2nd is the Thunderbolt fighter.

Do like me a boxy dread. They blew me away when they first came out. The only thunderbolts I have are AA but I do plan to change that soon. It’s such a 40k looking plane.

I really like the the Horus heresy Kratos.
Each gun looks very cool and I like the shape of the turret, sponsons, the tracks. Very close are the Sicarans, I am so eager for the plastic release!
A big contender are the Warglaives, I had so much fun building and painting them.

Marauder Destroyer for me. Actually looks somewhat functional (although the fact that it just has ramjets is odd) and pretty deadly as well.

The box dread is OG 40K and not much can beat it. Even the lore is an exemplar of what 40K is. Can’t believe they replaced it with that primaris walker thing

Adding another vote for the box dread. Ultramarines paint scheme, red assault cannon and a power fist. Awesome model.

Agreed, the new Heresy vehicles are hitting it out of the park, I can't wait for the new land raider.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

I've really enjoyed the knight kits, they are really fun to work on.

My harlequins vehicles are not terribly exciting.

I really like the new primaris vehicles, the Stormspeeder and Gladiator. The gladiator especially I really enjoyed building and painting.

I just really don't like the gw flying stands with the ball joints, they just can never hold the model properly, but the flying stand on the gladiator is great!

Count me in for another vote on the Boxnaught. Bonus points for mentioning the UM paint scheme in the 90's. That's the model that brought me into 40K.

+1 for the angry washing machine.

Also the Land Raider.

The amount of love for the boxy dreads is a pleasant surprise. I think they lost their way with the venerable ones and how fancy they got. The old school simple ones were ace. I was looking at the catalogue pages in my old second edition angels of death codex at the just the other day. The old metal ones could smash a whole army if dropped at the wrong time.

I could never get on with the sicaran tanks. Too “new” for me. I’m using the marines from my dark heresy box to make a 2nd edition marine army. It will have predator, land raider and a box dread in it.

It was a game changer. But does anyone get the feeling that if they did it again it would be so much more, more possible legs and things?

Vyper Jetbike.

Sure, I think it’s now the oldest remaining 40K vehicle kit (unless the Falcon predates? It was a long time ago!). And whilst it shows it’s age when being assembled (lots of empty sprue space, joining points which are quite right)….

Once assembled and painted? It still looks the part. It looks sleek, nimble and despite carrying a heavy weapon, doesn’t look over gunned.

I think the Vyper was before the Falcon, but there wasn't much in it either way.

Given it was a vehicle when it was released, the Jetbike still ridden by the Autarch Skyrunner is probably the oldest vehicle kit in the range that has not seen any gaps in production.

I think the Space Marine bike predates the Jetbike? Again, not by a huge amount. Let me check my Codex Ultramarines. If that has a piccie of the Marine Bike, it’s the oldest in constant production.

Nope, no piccies of the bike in Codex Ultramarines.

The SM bikes got updated at some point (not sure when, I'd say circa 5th edition) to give the rider's the ball and socket joint of the SM torsos at the time. It's not the same sprue as when it first came out.

Spoiler:

This is the current sprue.

Spoiler:

The OG sprue.

As for the order of release, the Vyper was introduced in WD207 alongside the SM Attack Bike, the Falcon in 216, and the Fire Prism in 219. The normal Bikes must have been before the Attack Bike, although I can't find the WD at the moment.

I don't know how well known it is, but there were actually two SM bike styles before the plastic one. A sort of klunky, spiky one, and then a slimmer one with wings.

I like the eldar vyper a lot but I think my favourite has to be the Ork dreadnought from 2nd edition ( the one the cardboard cutout in the boxed game represented).

There’s a nice image of it in the Dakka gallery:

I would hope so. The FW knights have shown how to do it properly and the static leg poses completely ruin the model IMO. It's the biggest reason why I'll never build a knight army.
