Has there been ANY hint that the plastic Forsaken might come back? Or am I just wishlisting into the void?

Let’s face it, the ones TK used were out of scale when they first released, and replaced the vastly superior original plastic Skellingtons.

And they’ve only aged like curdled milk being held by a 1980’s Club Circuit Stand-up Comedian that refuses to consider updating their routine, wearing flared trousers that drinks 16 pints a night and smokes 80 tabs a day.

The “Skeleton Warriors Regiment” being the base which TK used? Is there an even older than that skeleton kit?

I'm pretty sure this is the kit being referred to:

FYI: I have mine based on 20mm rounds, not 25mm.

That kit is what I thought was being referred to, it’s the same exact sprues skeletons as the tomb kings currently have. Tomb Kings adds their own special shields/banner/musician horn/heads sprue and bows/khopeshes sprue which are actually one big connected sprue technically

Looking at GW’s site those are based off the kit that came after the one Kid Cthulhu posted.

The spears are the give away. The ones on the teal old kit are much thinner.

No, they are not, These are 80's models that significantly shorter & slimmer than the VC/Tombkings ones. I'll see if I can take a side-by-side photo later today..

The scale wasn’t that far off, but the old guys stood more upright. They were thinner though, especially the weapons.

Also easier to build. Legs and torso were single piece. From there a free choice in head and arm combo.

Both were easier to build and better kits then the one that came after them.

Think I’ve only built the ones that came with Cursed City?

Wasn’t a fan of the ones used for Tomb Kings. That waist joint was a pain to work with. Also the weapons were much too chunky.

Cursed City were some pretty nice skellies. I think the kit the TK are based off of is the chonkiest skeletons GW has made. Weapons especially.

All found the “same” kit in a Pound Shop, repurposed and cast in some awful rubber as a children’s bag of Skellington toys.

If memory serves, those were even larger.

Was definitely using the same models, as the weapons were identical, and included the weird semi-cracked skull that still had an eye.

Huh wow, the style seems extremely similar, but there's a significant difference in the sizes? Just looking at a glance it seemed to have the same exact sorts of leg pose as the newer one and the skulls looked spot on too.

They were definitely somewhat daintier. Also came in an army type set of them, Skellington Cavalry and Skellington Chariots.

Pretty much made Undead one of the most affordable armies for its time.

The OG Skeleton Army had skeletons that could actually fit inside humans. The later ones had massive heads and hands, no way they were once clothed in muscle and flesh.

The original Skeleton Army kit came out during WHFB...3e? Maybe even as early as 2e? It was released in the late 80s and had the skeleton warrior sprue, skeleton horses sprues, the skeleton horseman upgrade sprue, and the skeleton chariot sprue. These were later repackaged separately during 4e as Skeleton Warrior, Skeleton Horsemen, and Undead Chariot box sets and were used well into 5e. I bought a crapload of the separated sets, as I started in the hobby right at the change from 4e to 5e.

The big-boned kit was released c. 1998 during the 5e multi-part plastic Warhammer Regiment kits. It originally came with metal parts for a command set, including a very 'Tomb Kings' style vulture banner icon, but before the split of the undead. Later, with the release of the 5e Vampire Counts army book c. 1999, they got a new metal command kit more suited to Sylvania. They later got the orc/skaven/skeleton command upgrade sprue. Still later, during the 6e release of Tomb Kings, the Khemri skeleton upgrade sprues were added to this base kit, and those are the Tomb King skeletons that are still in use.

In 7e, Vampire Counts got a newer skeleton kit with bones that would fit inside human models again, c. 2008. There were the ones where all the cloth was blown forwards of the regiment, and was used in 8e and into Age of Sigmar, along with the Grave Guard kit released at the same time. I stopped following along after the end of WHFB and the transition to AoS, but I understand this kit was later replaced by a current kit patterned after Cursed City and upped in scale.

Oh man! How did I forget the late WHFB era Skellingtons.

I really liked those ones. As a whole? That era really nailed the Vampire look.

They're 2-3x larger, I still have some of those from a mixed bag of random fantasy figures. The same set also contained ones made from Mordeim/Empire Militia. I also have some GI Joe sized figures made using the body of the FW Khorne Daemon prince with heads from it, the Herald that came with it, and a random head from the Vergheists.

I remember it well, the skeleton army set was such great value... I think it was around £10 at the time? Hopefully someone can correct me on this if I'm way out

The skeleton sprues also found their way into the Advanced Heroquest Paint Set, which I also have fond memories of.

I'm sure that nostalgia plays a big part but those OG skellies are some of my favourites of all time.

It's weird then, in hindsight, that I hated the 2nd incarnation of plastic skellies, considering that they are so similar

The OG skeletons looked like they'd stepped right of of Jason and the Argonauts, and the poses backed it up: the screaming skull, arms-above-the-head charge is totally replicable.

If they dust off the moulds for those original Skellingtons? I’m selling someone’s Granny.

Why not one of my Grannies? They’re not with us anymore.

Perhaps if your Granny is a nasty old baggage, and not in the Nanny Og way? You could suggest a candidate.

I’d absolutely adore an old school Undead army.

Nice to know I didn’t hallucinate them at least! But yeah. They were markedly bigger.

Not really. The poses may be similar, but the scale and proportions weren't. I'd traded off my (poorly painted beginner's) 1989 sprue skeletons after I 'upgraded' to the new kit for the new Vampire Counts split army. After I got the big-bone-bois painted up...they never, ever quite looked right next to other miniatures, especially human miniatures.

Years later, I sold them off and immediately used the money to help fund purchasing the 7e kit, which was far superior to the big-bones. (But not to the OG skeletons*, which I have always regretted getting rid of...they could have been repainted!)

*except, perhaps, in variety of weapons. The OG skeletons were frustratingly split with 3 hand weapons, 1 spear, and 1 great weapon (scythe) per sprue of 4 bodies.
