Eh, the hunchback warriors have a certain charm:

My force includes metals and plastics from various editions in one chaotic horde, so it works for me.

So I say, to each their own. I'm just hoping for more metal champions from old days.

My main hatred for the hunchbacks strems from their protruding elbows and weapons. It was a nightmare to rank 'em up.

Do they have a better time of it now that TOW has increased the base size for Chaos Warriors?

So many nightmares. They were horrible ranking. You needed to have a seating chart, of who was in what rank, and which guys needed to be on which side.

One thing about chaos warriors of that era, they were crazy affordable to make an army with. Expensive in points, but plastic kits for your good core units. At a time where a lot of armies were buying elite units via blister packs. The plastic warriors were fine at the time, despite not aging well. The metals of the era have held up quite well though.

The seating plan was hardly a unique issue for the Chaos Warriors, though - I remember having to note base references on the underside of bases for my Dwarf infantry, for example.

Mine are on 32mm bases, for double-duty in other games, which is why they're on rounds.
My friends aren't as picky about base size as long as it's not for advantage:

(obviously, I'm still painting them)

I'll see if I can mount a spare one on an Old War base and see how they look.

It looked stupid then too. Now it's dated AND stupid.

Actually the problem is the rider. The mount was decent enough.

Agree on the affordability. I was a student at the time. I’ve a fond memory of being in the College’s local pub (might’ve been bunking off, might’ve just been seeking shelter between lessons. Hard to tell!) and winning a £10 Jackpot on the Fruity, using whatever meagre funds I had.

Yeah, straight off to GW to buy another box!

Ouch. If that Chaos Lord could read he'd be very upset.

Hoping against hope that these new Marauders glut the aftermarket with the old Marauders.

I'm glad they're putting out MTOs for metal character models from 5th ed and earlier. Hopefully they'll keep doing that and maybe they'll do a MTO for Egrimm van Horstmann one day. Regardless, that chaos lord on a chaos steed is a wonderful model. He'll serve me well once he gets delivered! I would have liked to get the three-pack of sorcerers, but I already had one of them and no-one in my area wanted to split it. The 6th edition sorcerer is pretty cool too, I'm looking forward to painting him.
Also, the 5th ed plastic warriors are beautiful and perfect in every way. They make up the bulk of my collection and I'll never replace them.

I'd really like to see an MTO for Archaeon, the old metal one.

F - is the Fire that rains from the skies.
U - for Uranium Bomb!
N - is for No Survivors...

They did a few years ago:

The one that came out in 1999 was when I got into WHFB. So many memories.

Oof, I'm not sure how I feel about those great axes.

They are about 50% too big for the tone of the unit. They look comically oversized for a unit that looks like they tried to convert the tv show Vikings to a real unit.

Fully the reason for the bigger base size: an excuse for even MORE ludicrously oversized weaponry!

They actually look like they could easily fit on 25mm bases, anyone tried it?

Yes, I base everything for Classichammer and use conversion trays. I have a unit with HW+S built and while they're fine in their trays, they'll need some selective placement on 25mm (the usual careful positioning). Pics forthcoming.

So there’s a new article up under The Old World banner, ostensibly about TW:WIII.
But then the entire army of Cathay started there too…
So, future tabletop unit or nah?

I wonder if, in TOW, they will see action? 52-man units might be a bit too muich for them.

Right now I'd consider everything TW Warhamer makes for Cathay to be a potential future GW model. Esp since they've actually done most of the really big things in the army already.

The reliable AOS rumour mongers as TGA are all pretty much confirming Dark Elves are gone from Cities of Sigmar as of their book, so you do have to wonder if they are going to move back to TOW.

https://www.tga.community/blogs/entry/2490-rumours-update-14-february-2026/

Also that the Ogres are going to depart quite significantly from their current designs, which might open up some possibilities there too.
