It especially seems to gall people because many streamers etc 'miraculously' got orders through, and of course you can readily acquire all of the sold-out things on ebay et al for outrageous sums.

Asking price for the regular box of the Lion with retinue seems to be between 300€ and 450€, for a box which is priced at 85€ regularly.

That isn't the regular box of the Lion. This wasn't some kind of big secret.

Don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on this special edition set when it comes out – the Lion will be available solo in just a few weeks. You’ll have plenty of time to paint him up to use in your first games of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.

I'm not saying that people aren't dumb as rocks... still, for example, the description in the web-store is missing this rather pertinent information entirely, which at least explains why many people are upset. I missed it myself, but luckily i don't care about the miniature anyway. And of course, none of all of this excuses being rude to some random marketing person about it.

It's all fine and dandy to be pissed off about their limited edition bs, especially since normal people have close to no chance at that lottery anymore due to scalpers and other unsavoury characters, but who else can you really blame for people berating some random person that does GW's online hype for them? If you want to be taken seriously and have a chance at actually tackling the problem people need to step up their game and express their concerns in a reasonable manner, otherwise they're just getting discounted as some random donkey-caves on twitter that can't behave themselves.

IIRC the way the CTDA captain went together was really odd, where parts were connected in strange ways to make it easier to build, but not in a lot of parts.

Like the model, will probably try a head swap, depending on the sprue. Nice upgrade from my old metal guy.

I really like the new Termie Librarian. Streets ahead of previous incarnations. And a great addition to a unit of the new Termies. I guess we’ll be seeing a new Termie Captain soon.

Wait, what happened?

UK web store crashed around 10 when the pre-orders went live. They then all sold out. There were about 20 people queuing in my local GW - 2 of their orders went thru.

Judging from how close the librarian is to how he was shown in the launch video, I’d wager we’ve already seen the captain, just not in plastic. But if you like him on screen, you’ll probably like him in hand.

Just a guess…

The Lion went for sale, and they did not have enough boxes, because apparently the Lion+retinue box is not actually the normal box, but a 'celebratory launch box' and the regular box is coming in some weeks time, which they did not communicate as clearly as they could have. A lot of people missed that detail and got upset, while scalpers are currently having a field day with the FOMO and are hawking the box at several hundred percent markup.

How could it be communicated clearer than this?

...the Lion will be available for the first time alongside a retinue of three Bladeguard Veterans and two pieces of special edition artwork – one a duel with Angron and the other a heroic pose.

If you don’t manage to get him in this box, don’t worry. He’ll be out on his own soon enough – just like the foul xenos commanders of the Orks and T’au, when they break out of their Boarding Patrol boxes.

It could have been mentioned in the online store itself, for example - that's somewhat relevant for people who do not read the articles.

Is the Libby going to be on the new 40k Starter box set? Because from all that we have seen so far the Termis and Libby are stealing the show.

It's the character from the trailer, so all signs point to yes.

See, that's the thing, helmet would fit nicely, like in older TL models, but for real good effect it needs to be integrated into the hood, like here:

Spoiler:

I really hope we will get some sort of alternative head, because as it is, this model is way worse than special characters - nothing stops you from using special character rules with model you converted for your own chapter, but this dude will forewer and always look like UM Worf from trailer who died like chump to showcase new Tyranid flying potato. Mediocrity cubed.

As for the model, don't really like it. Suffers from the same disease as other uglysquattus, namely too wide legs as if his pelvis was broken in half then extender inserted (seriously, even women from 90s comics don't have hips that wide) and missing spine between pelvis and rib cage. For all the dumb whining about belly on some gravis models, they at least have one. His arms, too, not ear level like older termies, but neck level is still too high. And I say it as someone who really likes all Terminator models.

Plus, why we need this model, exactly? Better looking plastic one with axe is on sale right now. Then there is excellent SH one, also with axe. And HH resin librarians, in TDA and Mk 6, you have one guess with what weapon. Come on GW, at least make it unique somehow, force sword, force maul, I don't care, copy pasting loadout of multiple current models is just lame. And where are the scrolls/keys/books/cases all other librarians have? Outside of sheep skulls there is very little saying 'I am a librarian', kind of surprising after two excellent primaris ones. Especially phobos one, he is not festooned with ruminant skulls and yet looks the part way better. GW really should have told the sculptor to look at them and start over.

Then there is the fact they say 'chapter agnostic' but the engravings look like 1:1 copy paste of HH Word Bearer geometric markings, down to nonsensical, non-Latin letters on trim. Hell, even the skull on his chest is slight retouch away from having WB legion number on it...

On the scalping front...The Lion was a limited edition release and thus in limited numbers. Just like the Horus Heresy set, just like Dominion and even the initial Indomitus (was it?) 9th edition Necrons vs Marines set there *should* be plenty of these going round. No doubt for the past few, and possibly future months, a fair percentage of the GW production capacity has been put into making an awful lot of 10th edition launch set sprues.

In total I bought 3 of the Indomitus sets, and 2 of them were months after the initial release.

There are some valid questions to ask GW about their approach to high profile pre-orders, but they should be asked in a polite and constructive way. I've not looked at what people are posting on Twitter, but I'm guessing they're failing on that simple measure.

Questions I'd consider fair would include:
- Why have GW removed anti-scalper measures that they had in place over the last couple of years? The queuing system, for example, was at least fairer than the mosh pit they have now.
- Why have GW not invested some of their considerable revenue/profit in ensuring they have sufficient extra server/bandwidth capacity on their websites to avoid total crashes, even if only for Saturdays?
- If what a couple of posters on here are saying about the launch box description on the webstore not being clear that this was, in fact, a ltd ed launch box - I've not looked to confirm either way - why was this not made clear on the listing? Not everyone reads every article on WHC, after all - I don't recall catching that it was a launch box until people had posted about it in here.

I confess to being rather surprised at the amount of anger about the Lion selling out so fast. I didn't think there were that many DA players or collectors.

The combination of the Lion, Dante and Azrael...I can perhaps see that causing a lot of traffic. so maybe it would have been better to release one of those this week, which otherwise seems very quiet.

However, the store crashing like that is pretty poor.

The Youtuber Luetin has a timely video about some of the issues currently plagueging GW, especially considering limited edition products, box sets and the community reactions. It's long-ish at ca. 45 minutes, but touches on a lot of points:

True...he probably is sought after highly for those people who are good at painting. The helmets alone makes me want to buy the model, but that's like a 5 year goal behind all the other crap I need to paint.

Germany went down as well.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Surprised people thought discount box wasn't limited stock with pricier solo kit coming later. Gw isn't one to usually keep discount boxns forever available.

Sucks but no point paying scalper far more than the non-discounted price is. Especially as solo will be cheaper than this box was, just without bladeguard

Did we cover that the 'fest reveal is the full launch box?

"The full launch box for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 will be revealed at Warhammer Fest – but that’s just one of five (yep, FIVE!) separate live previews spread out over the weekend"

I wouldn't expect much more than that, maybe the core rules go up on the site given people will be playing it there?

He's been right more than wrong on 10th so far. I'd wager they'll get the free core rules like exist now, so missing the army building, terrain and a few other 'advanced' rules maybe?

Either way, hopefully we'll get a date and if we're lucky, a price.
