The same cover for the regular codex? How did they though this was a good idea at all? The special cover is awesome but they are usually twice the price and rarely worth it. Now the worth will be from not confusing it for the 9th edition book

Which, yeah, GW's being money-grubbing... But I don't think they lied about anything here.
They've at best been unclear about whether datasheets remain free on the app post codex release, they've mentioned that datasheets shouldn't really change.
I'll need some hefty convincing that they didn't say that crusade content would be focused on the campaign books and not in codexes. Likewise I'm pretty adamant Eddie verbally mentioned you can get access to rules 3 ways.
All in all there's a lot for GW "beige greyness zone" where they say ambiguous things that trigger response A then they go "but till next response B" and look confused if people are annoyed.
I expected codex related content to be locked in the app. I thought it was likely that datasheets to remain free for all. I also expected multiple access avenues beyond dead trees.

Ok so did GW plan to release whichever army won that Oghram Campaign first?
Or were Tyranids always planned to be released and then marines?
Or did GW fudge the results so Tyranid would win and would be released first...?

they made it vague enough with the "until the codex is released" that some people thought the full game will be accessible for free without the need to buy anything
yet GW marketing is like a politician talking, everything they say will be technically correct and coming down to a single word that makes a big difference but a lot of people ignore
yet they wrote early on that Crusade Content won't be in the Codizes but in the Crusade Books so that no one need to wait for their Codex to play Crusade
yet they never said it will be "only" in the Crusade Supplements
same as I am curious if six full Detachments with unique abilities, rules, Enhancements, and Stratagems all fit on the promised 2 pages or if just the list of all those things is on 2 pages and the details for it are somewhere else

Something to keep in mind is all they said was winner gets to see models first. Release order wasn't determined.
Could be either way. Though the 2nd not being shown before leads to think it was fixed. If gw shows marines next turn obviously that would not have been where nids were shown if lost(since they were shown now)
For release schedule campainp couldn't affect. Too close.

They'll probably keep them up for the sake of the community articles. For example, you can still get the index for renegade knights from a previous edition which I think is...8th edition? Another is the Warcry compendium which is still up for download, despite the actual book being released.
And you're correct that GW said that the indices would eventually be replaced by codices. Inevitable, of course.

I'm not too mad myself; Guard is usually late in an edition and SM is SM.
However, and this is the 'but' that is the real point. Battletech's Master Unit List is one of the most convenient listbuilding services I've used, aside from Easy Army. GW could've copied their homework, and they didn't. It's baffling that they don't have a free listbuilder yet; most of their competitors do.

The closest we've had to official confirmation was someone asking during a 10e Q&A session if unit datasheets would change from index to codex. The response from the studio guy was something like "only when necessary", with the example that new kits would definitely require updated rules.
Some other cases I'd also expect to see would be if:
A codex introduces new units that a leader can join, the character datasheet would change.New detachments may have new keywords linked to their special rules, which get added to specific datasheets. For example a Tyranid Vanguard detachment might see a <vanguard> keyword added to lictors/genestealers/etc
While codex datasheets probably won't match the printed indexes precisely, I'd be surprised if the early units change so much as to be totally useless.

I think it is a good range of units that desperately needed redoing and a completely new large scale character and 2 smaller packed in with the lictor revamp.
I will get the codex, purely as I restarted tyranids after a 20 year hiatus from 40K and would like to do some reading. But if I was a regular player I probably wouldn't bother.
Not sure about the cards, with the potential for obsolescence at any update...
I am very happy with the releases.

I was genuinely under the impression that datasheets were seperate to the codex and 1, would always be available outside of the codex and thus, able to be edited if necessary without the codex being immediately invalidated, and 2 the codex would be for core mechanics of how the army worked and even wouldn't contain lore etc...
Fairly certain this was said in more than 1x stream.
In addition to this, I thought the whole point of the datasheet design was that they would be card/printer friendly so you only needed the datatsheets for your army and would not be required to be flicking through pages of your codex to check a rule etc....
Okay, found this, and it is ambiguous that datasheets wouldn't become paid for as they update, but it does still read that datasheets would be seperate...
Codexes will return in time to replace the free rules, but when they do the complexity of the game won’t increase, thanks to a one-in-one-out ethos for army and sub-faction rules. Effectively, you will only ever need your unit datasheets, the two pages of rules that govern your chosen army (available in your codex, on cards, or digitally), plus the core rules and whatever mission you’re playing.

I'm slightly amused that Termagaunts and Hormagaunts have different prices (not by much) and that the kit that has more options in it (terma) has the lower price point.
Though going by how 20 models makes a full unit of gaunts now; and by the the images that GW posted on the preview day, both are going down to only 10 models in the box (gosh I remember when witch aelves were considered one of the most expensive armies in 2.0 AoS because of that price on their infantry).
Biovore is a bit of a surprise considering its size?
Also very surprised at the lictor, deathleaper and neurolictor all being separate kits; though it does explain how GW got them being so dynamic without using one kit.

Index Cards. Sheesh. £20. Only a 33% increase in price since July.
The Space Marine set has 126 cards for £15 at the moment. I expect the new Tyranid cards to have significantly less. Which makes me dread the price of the Space Marine Index card replacement set when it comes out.

Okay, datasheets being seperate to the Codex is good.
No price on the combat patrol then? Can GW really sell it at £95 when the ultimate starter set is £125? Logic says no, practice says yes they will!
Lastly, I wonder if the infernus marines will be packaged with an upgrade sprue, or even the sternguard rather than a multipose kit like the termagaunts?

Also the Combat Patrol isn't on there so seems to be direct only?
Probably because they already have the starter sets in stores but still who would buy the CP for £95 when the Ultimate starter costs £125 AND can get discounts from third party stores? And you get both a second CP and terrain to play on

Its not like SM are way more expensive at the moment than other factions with less cards. CSM have 53 cards and are also £15.
While the SM replacement cards could be more expensive than the Tyranid cards, I would be surprised if they are more than £25 (Not like that price is great in any way)

Yea i made easy decision to skip marine&tyranid cards as they were going to be replaced so early.
Makes at least getting matched play rules cheaper than codex so while price increase irritating still cheaper than 9e codex.
Will get cards myself and skip codex unless i actually end up play crusade with nids.

It's probably GW thinking one is a full kit and the other a starter box kit with an upgrade sprue. Yeah, it's a bit funny, but considering the Homeygaunts likely have the "normal" price, the Termagant price is at least a bit of a break.
But as you say, not that it's saying much when we're talking about a cheap horde unit.

It's not a price increase but a return to normal prices. The index cards were per GW's marketing an "inexpensive" way of getting into the new edition. As in, a cheap fix to get the plasticrack addicts to get invested and come back for more.
We have this picture with a Termagant next to it:
Looks like a 60mm base, probably a bit wider than the old ones on account of the spider legs, and a fair bit taller.

Another reason for termagaunt price is it's part of starter sets. Can't be too expensive or doesn't sell(though extra sprue helps). Necron warriors were unusually cheap(for gw) and still only for tad more got cheapest starter with same plus more...
