There I heavily disagree.
I want wargear costs to return, but I actually like having set points per unit. That way the overall point cost doesn't needs to be a multiple of the unit size.
Also I always found all those unit sizes that were blatantly trying to game some part of the blast and/or the coherence system annoying.

As I predicted they cannot be Warlords. Being a Synapse is a nice touch though.

Actually bit suprised that Norns aren't Characters.
But bit nice that these can be very decent objective takers.

Not really seeing much reason to take an assimilator atm.

Agreed. Unless his tiny upper claws add some magic difference to its attacks then he is both less survivable, and less dangerous of the two. Except that, there is still a point cost unknown.

Apparently their melee stats are comparable to a Knight. Sounds as though Emissaries are in more of a squad/character targeting role while Assimilators go for heavy armour & monsters.

Literally the only thing giving the assimilator that impression is the harpoon, which it gives up the 18" S12 melta in return for a 2" shorter charge. Both of them can get full rerolls against the one tank in particular you want dead. I'm not seeing any way it's better suited to anything beyond maybe being cheaper?

I was thinking that, with the extra upper arms it maybe has more chaff clearing?
Ah the harpoon is singular in name, so maybe a not-twin-linked pair of weapons? The 4 shots would balance it out a little.

It could be a possibility for the flesh hooks but I still have hard time to imagine how those tiny upper arms with no reach could be usable for anything than keepin the pray that was already ''hugged'' from escaping.

Flesh Hooks may be a Keyword activated by CP or what have you.
But we have seen Assimilators both with and without the weird shoulder fingers. Which infers it may have some options.

Even with full rerolls from singular purpose the Assimilator's shooting attacks are worse than a Tyrannofex's Rupture Cannon.
Assimilator full reroll vs Rogal Dorn
4.375 Wounds
Tyrannofex with Rupture vs Rogal Dorn
6.48 Wounds
If the Assimilator had two of those weapons, it's obviously doubling the output. However their range of 12 inch is really bad. So it has to be awesome in melee, so its +2 to charge rocks it.

My impression is that both Norns want to be getting at least into mid to close range during the game. So whilst the Tyrannofex is happy to sit at the back being, basically, a tank firing at stuff; the Norn's want to get up close and personal.
Plus their singular purpose which makes them either a better objective holder or a better unit assassin. Granted the latter is against a specific unit only, but that could still make a huge difference if it can contest/take out a key enemy model that they've sunk a lot of points and strategy into

If that's the case it's another lovely example of twin-linked not being applied evenly.

Why would they give twin-linked to a unit that can choose to reroll wounds?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but are tank sponsons twin linked? Because these are absolutely tank equivalent bugs. If not, I wouldn’t agree with your statement.

On the same pic it also has those brain tentacles so I bet it was wrongly built without tiny arms and with parts from NE.

The entire point is the rule is applied very haphazardly:
Carnifex with twin devourers - doubles the shots
Harpy with twin venom cannon - twin linked
Tyrannofex with fleshborer hive - twin linked
Do you consider a carnifex a tank equivalent? Your current statement about sponsons is trying to insinuate that if they can move independently they're not twin linked, when the opposite is obviously true for the tyrannofex and harpy. There is no common sense application here.

Also Deathspitters on Carnifexes, who are literally supposed to be Tyranid tank equivalents. There's plenty of "one on each side" Twin-linked Tyranids throughout the years.
Those are no longer twin linked when they once were. One day they'll make their minds up!

Then you have spinefists that are both twin linked but also were given double shots.
The Harpy is the only one that really got fethed over by the change to twin linked.

To be fair to spinefists, did anyone take them before? They needed a boost.

Spinefists for the longest time have never been something you took to do anything damage wise. You took them purely because they let you take cheap bodies (gaunts) in larger numbers. So you used them to create chaff.
As a weapon on their own they were basically just terrible weapons.
This isn't to say that they would do nothing in game, its just that you never took them with the intention of them doing something because if you went in with that approach, you'd pay the extra for better ranged weapons such as devourers or fleshborers.
