Normally, I am loathe to share WIP photos, but I've put so much time into these dudes already that I feel that I almost have to:]

The flaming skulls look pretty good on their own, but once attached to these chunky bodies, they looked tiny and very much out of place. I tried sculpting some flames to try and tie all the parts together. I think it worked OK, but the real proof will be in the painting.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I don't think so at all, it makes them look bulky in a good way.
I used to do the same with skulls from the skullbox placed on the bodies of StD units to make my own vampire-coven before the vampire faction was released for AoS.

Good stuff.

Flames look good to me, both in quality and in placement.

Same. Nice touches but not overpowering. Now how much OSL is going to be gone for?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Thanks, everyone. I'm still very much a novice at sculpting, so the positive feedback is nice.

That's very much up in the air at the moment.

Bloody Nora it's already the 14th, I better pick something to paint and get cracking.

Some lovely entries so far, nice work on the Harlequins CB!

@JoshInJapan those flaming skull priests are awesome!

I think I'm pretty much done with mine, only the bases need a little more work. Sadly my camera broke, so for now here's some less-than-great pics from my phone:

Should be able to get some better photos by next week.

Lotsa good stuff so far. Harlies are always fun to see, and the spots are spot-on, so to speak.

I made some progress on the Burning Men:

All the non-fire stuff is painted as if it isn't burning. I'll paint the flames and then try to figure out the OSL.

I don't want to clog up the thread, so I'm only posting this one photo. There are more photos from different angles in my P&M Blog.

The Burning Men are pretty much finished:

There are more photos in my P&M blog if you're interested. I'm not entirely satisfied with the molten metal weapons, and I may or may not go back and see if I can't improve them. I'll post final photos in a few days, after I finish their bases.

We're in the last third of the month and summer has returned with a vengeance. Some may like it hot but my paints and brushes sure don't, so my already plodding progress has been slowed even further.

The upside is that I have time to get next month's entry into a paintable state. But I sure hope temperatures drop again later this week. Painting works so much better when the paint doesn't dry on the way to the miniature.

I like the weapons, but I have no idea how something like that would realistically look. White hot metal that shines brighter than the flames coming from them? Just a little brighter orange or yellow? I do like the look they have now, though. It gives them a nice, unified overall appearance.

You get your procrastination in where you can. Take your time. If everyone gets done early, it makes the rest of us look bad.

Same here dw, I'm in a shin destroying summer camp (already 2nd day my right leg is unusable for the remainder :/ ) and 4 more days to go, so I have no time (nor energy) to work on my entry until the 27th.

Month is ticking away, try to keep up the pace.

If people are trying to plan out the rest of their year, we are actually mostly set due to this month’s tie.

September: Sun’s Out, Guns Out
October: Halloween Special
November: <still need to set poll and vote>
December: Open Round.

So if you have stuff cluttering up your workbench, and can plan ahead, 3/4ths of the next competitions are already set. Feel free to earmark project for the months to help your overall workflow and goals. I’ll start accepting bribes mid-October if you want to get a fix in for November.

Struggling to paint my three little guys as my son has dropped another deffdread on my painting desk. Didn’t think to take a before pic but it doesn’t even have a flamer so whatever.

I’ve got two of them done nearly so we’ll see if the old box-set plastic guy gets any further before the deadline.

Hi All

The Meks have been on holiday this month so haven't had a chance to get much done and after a couple of bigger conversion a break has been nice.

They have managed to coble something together.
