Totally overlooked the whole material argument, very true!

As for FW...yeah, so they still deal with resin. Shame that they don't do any big exotic stuff anymore. Feel that even their Specialist Games characters could probably be done in regular plastic as well (albeit a few minor modifications I guess).

I know FW resin is not finecast, but there are still a lot of things I’d not even consider unless they went to plastic.

I also understand that economically they are not going to invest in plastic molds and machine time for things that would never return on that investment. But I would make some pretty unwise spending decisions if some of the superheavy elder grav tanks made the change. They never will sadly (which is good for my wallet)

FW resins for hero/ infantry models across the board are superior sculpts to anything plastic really, it's just the better material for sharp detailing you might want from character models.

However, FW prices are about 50-100% more than most competitors which is pretty insane even by GW standards. They're good but not THAT good.

Also, resin is not the best material for many of the large models and vehicles FW offers, which seriously hurt their reputation.

I am left wondering if they just didn't sell many Baneblades, because a plastic Scorpion or Cobra would tempt me so much more than a Wraith Knight.

(Tbh this goes for Super Heavy Tanks vs Knight equivalents in every army.)

I thought resin was the industry standard for such large scale, low volume production pieces. What else would they use? I understand that GW's QA process and specific material used is not the greatest, but it shouldn't tar the entire field.

As much as I love walkers, I will put off buying FW Knights for as long as I can, as I dislike the finicky resin parts that look like they should be load bearing, but need pinning to hold together...

Hopefully, The Styrix/Magera come to plastic land soon.

So strands of fate is already changed according to warcom, stealth changed from 2/4/6 dice to 3/6/9.

It's weird that I was recently told it was hyperbolic to state the paper codexes were pointless for looking things up on release even.

They should stick to release lore, artwork, painting schemes etc faction optional books and, at this point, just leave all rules and points out.

They should sell editions of the codex with lots of margin space on the page for you to write notes and commentary on the sides. And as I write this it as a joke, I realise I would actually like a printed codex like that.

The points values should be dry erase for ease of use.

There's plenty of blank space in the current codex pages - in some places, half a page has been devoted to a pale background image of the unit described above rather than full art.

Theres a narrative angle underlying whatever they are doing with karandras. I expect something dramatic.

Personally I would like them to reveal that Arha is not Drazhar, as it's too underwhelmingly lame (nothing special about drazhar to make him such a dark and powerful figure). Instead I would like to see Drazhar be Arha's new padawan to replace the rebel Karandras..

And the next time we see Karandras, we see him released alongside the Dark Father, a quasi daemonic powered Arha who he's been stalking for the final kill. As part of a Dark eldar release.

But that's just me

In the design article for the Eldar they mention designing an entire Eldar temple that they "snap" bits from to make the rubble on bases. Not sure about everyone else, but I would absolutely love to just see what that looks like. They don't even have to sell it.

Ditto on the Necron portal they mentioned for the Void Dragon.

GW take tactical rocks really serious. I wonder if it is a separate Tactical Rock Division of the design team with their own budget?

So, when I play Dark Eldar, I normally just horde-up on Warriors, Incubi, Raiders, and Archon. If those are included in the Eldar codex, then I wonder if playing DE through the Craftworld codex might be better than their own.

I mean, we haven't seen their codex yet. However, I have a hard time envisioning it as being better than being able to play their core units alongside all the standard Eldar units, at basically no cost.

Remember those Dark Eldar corrupted Wraithguard from that book everyone was wanting about 8years ago? Perhaps this might be a way to fudge that a bit.

They still post sprue photos, just not during preorder. Odd decision I suppose, but helps feed the influencer train that is all the rage these days.

Thanks!

Always enjoy your reviews. Looking forward to these kits. As budget allows, I’ll probably prioritize the Phoenix lords, as I already have a squad of each of these in metal/finecast on the shelf.

How’s the scale creep on these guys? Compared the the older versions?

I think the point, though, is that you don't necessarily need all the DE datasheets.

The Eldar codex 'only' gives you a third of the datasheets in the actual codex (well, assuming no more are removed ).

So, the things you lose out on are:
- The 3 special characters (Drazhar, Urien, Lelith).
- Coven units (Haemonculus, Wracks, Grotesques, Talos, Cronos)
- Court of the Archon
- Beast Packs
- Mandrakes
- Hellions
- Scourges
- Razorwing
- Voidraven

It sounds like a lot . . . until you remember that, in exchange, you get access to the entire Eldar codex. And Harlequins. And Ynnari.

If special characters are your thing, you're gaining a hell of a lot more than you're losing. The Ynnari ones alone bring a far more diverse assortment of abilities than DE's three varieties of 'melee beatstick'.

Speaking of which, you lose the Haemonculus, but do you even care? He's basically interchangeable with the other DE HQs anyway. Plus, once again, you get a pile of Eldar HQs to make up for it. You have the Shadowseer and Death Jester on the Harlequin side, and the Farseer and Autarch on the Eldar side. These include rare and powerful abilities DE HQs can only dream of, such as 'gun' and 'not being a waste of ink'.

Moving on, you don't have the Coven units but you do have all the Wraith units. Plus the Avatar of Khaine and/or Yncarne if you want monsters.

You've also got the Eldar fliers if you want them.

You don't have Beast Packs, Hellions or Scourges, but you do have Shining Spears, Wind Riders, Swooping Hawks, and Skyweavers.

You don't have Mandrakes but you have Striking Scorpions, Rangers etc.

You don't have the Court of the Archon but you still have Incubi. Besides which, would you even want an Archon?

In essence, you may not have access to all the DE units, but you have plenty of units that fulfil the same or similar roles.

If anything, I would think the hard part would be convincing yourself to use DE units at all.
