Does anyone have a sense of when GWS would release Kill Team Typhon box set? That is, possibly May or June, or earlier?

June seems a safe bet, they tend to be every 3 months.

The Brutal & Cunning box was 2 months from reveal to preorder, while Blood & Zeal was under a month.

For the next one I'd think late April / May is a reasonable guess.

Has to come out before summer, since late summer should already be the start of second season of KT24

We're almost 1/3rd through the edition, and I still havent felt the urge to play..

They were just late in announcing B&Z, the time between preview and preorder shouldn't be taken as any sort of measure, rather that it's ~3 months between release dates of sets.

Balance slate updates out now. Vespids and Aquilons get an extra body each, bunch of other stuff.

Rather solid changes, I feel incentivised to build and paint the Vespid team I won at a tournament a month ago

So many nerfs to Eldar teams surprised me a bit. Maybe it's to lessen the trend of good players moving away from elites? But I don't think only the Eldar are to blame for that.

Would you say most of the damage to game balance KT24 caused as having been adressed by now?

Sanctifiers are still OP, but besides them?

I'd say the first patch was really impactful, toning down the top teams, which surprised me at the time (I thought it was too little*). When I went to a bigger tournament on the 6-7th of April (Polish National Championship 52 players) and later I looked at the list of first 16 players - these that went at least 4-2, so won more than they lost - there were 15 different teams represented in that group. Hordes and Elties and everything inbetween, the only double was Harlequins. That convinced me that the top is dealt with, what was left was the bottom.

And this patch for sure will help at least a little. I'd say, if you dodge Sanctifiers and a random personal hard counter (like Nemesis vs Wreckas for example) you should get a fair game against almost any opposing team.

*-for example I didn't know why they didn't touch the Angels of Death, but then it turned out all AoD players ended up close to or in the bottom half at that tournament and no top players even decided that bringing AoD was a good idea. There seems to be a move away from elite teams too, not because they are bad or weak, but not consistent enough. A fumbled roll (or an absurd roll from an opponent) can really affect them, while a horde player will just shrug. And if you play six games at an event, a game with such an improbable event is bound to happen at least once or twice.

Is it true that the Typhon box set is up for preorder from next week?

We don't know what will go up on pre-order on the 17th yet - GW normally confirms in an article the Sunday before a given pre-order date what will go up that weekend.

For example, this article confirms what's going to go up for pre-order tomorrow.

Check WarCom around 6pm BST on Sunday, and that'll tell you if Typhon will be available for pre-order on the 17th.

Valrak has a slither of a rumour today for Kill Team, the name of the next box is apparently/could be Dead Silence. He's also heard of a wolf scouts team.

Below is my speculation:
Talons of the Emperor are kind of the last faction to not have a kill team, with the compendium teams gone (assuming they don't count Inquisition + SoS) so I think a strong contender there. Grey Knights also feel like they shouldn't just come under the standard marine banner. Daemons seem in an odd place as a faction in 40K in general so whilst there's likely some fun stuff you could do with a haunted house/ghost ship style possessed Kill Zone I don't know if I'd expect to see any new units for pure daemons.

Then again, these could be some of Be'lakor's guys as some kind of shadow deamons (Hmm, as an aside should Be'lakor be getting Mandrakes?).

Emperor's children I think are too new to get a team that didn't make the cut for the codex, they'll just have to piggy back on cultists for now.

Warpcoven will leave the Classified teams when "Dead Silence" comes out, leaving the Thousand Sons with no Kill team.

Novitiates will leave Sisters without a team, though I can easily see the Ecclesiarchy team counting for them.

Harlequins and Corsairs will also leave, but there will still be a Craftworld team with the Aspect Warriors so depends how much these guys are considered their own faction vs a subfaction of Craftworlders.

Pathfinders will also leave the Tau with no actual Tau team, but the two auxiliary teams of Vespid and Kroot.

Once the year that Dead Silence kicks off finishes, Necrons will also be left without a team (all of the other Gallowdark factions have had subsequent teams in later years), so there's probably a decent chance of one of those turning up as well. We'd also be losing any actual standard human Guard team.

So Talons, Necrons and Thousand Sons would be the teams I'd most expect to see coming up (both in this edition but also Dead Silence itself). I think it would be wild if Grey Knights get their Primaris update via Kill Team rather than the new codex but still a possibility. Wolf scouts replacing Phobos as a variant Phobos team would also make sense.

More of an outside chance? Deathwatch perhaps, Tau, Harlequins (Mimes are missing a model at the moment aren't they?) and Catachan Devils.

[edit]

Hmm, Harlequins might be ratcheting up the chances for me now - as mimes used to be the infiltrators and assassins sent ahead of a performance, rather than being part of the main troupe, so the ideal Kill team role for a unit that has been missing models since the Rogue Trader era.

Harlequin mimes vs Necrons could certainly fit Dead Silence. But part of me feels that might leave too many Imperial factions - so lets say Mimes vs Sisters of Silence.

Then later Wolf Scouts vs Tzeentch, Catachan Devils vs Tau suits and Deathwatch(/Grey Knights???) vs Necrons for wild future speculation.

Wolf scouts are interresting because we know they are not in the new codex for main 40k.

Is the Wolf book entirely self contained like the Chaos Legion books or a supplement to the core marine codex? They can take Phobos units can't they?
I wonder if the scouts will be a few lone wolves from the various infiltrators/incursers/reiver squads coming together.

Sisters of Silence vs Harlequins...hmmm.

The Troupe Master technically doesn't have an official kit anymore, so this would be the ideal opportunity to put that right. Afterall, as the Warlord of a Harlequin army their tactical rock is a bit underwhelming compared to the Shadowseer and DJ...

Sisters of Silence look the part for Kill Team. Even masters of sign language!

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Didn't the Sisters have a decent Kill Team for a while? (I think it came from a White Dwarf).

They don't need Custodes to work out just fine.

yupp, I reckon you're right. I'd say KT: Typhon will be announced for preorder within the next two weeks, which would mean we are 5 weeks from release day at the very most. Most likely dropping during June methinks.. I need that tyranid terrain in my lyfe, one way or another

Will be interesting to see where the setting moves to after the Volkus season finishes. OTOH I am kind of getting neck deep in Kill Team stuff by now, so am not wanting for more to be honest

@Tasyfish

That's a lot of power armour. I even like GK and DW...

I like EC and Ksons too. But damn do we ever not need 4 variety of good marine/ bad marine released back to back to back.

Bring on the SoS- give us a KT that has upgrades so SoS can have another unit in 40k.

@SamusDrake

Agree with the need for a Troupe Master model, but KT is unlikely to do it for us- in all the sets so far that included excellent candidates to be used as break-out characters, never once has GW actually done it...

Though given that the model in the current Troupe Kit is what's supposed to be used, if it is going to happen with any faction, 'Quins might be the one.

Given the 40k units are up now, I'm assuming Typhon will be this weekends announcement.

Im also assuming a £145 tag on it

I assume the Deathwatch Veterans are getting replaced with a Kill Team box eventually. Based on the cinematic teaser we saw last year, I'd expect it to be vs Necrons where we saw a Bladeguard, Intercessor and Reiver fighting a Skorpec. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it was literally just the 6 character classes from Space Marine 2.

It’s a regular expansion, like brutal&cunning, no? So £85 RRP. It doesn’t have a core book or enough terrain for a new “big box” release imho, unless they’ve been hiding something.

Ravenors were never my favourite unit aesthetically, so I'm not likely to go in for the box, but that's gambling that the terrain will be available separately- I think it will. It's a license to print money, and they'd be fools to pass up the opportunity.

If they release the Kill Teams from the latest box, we'll see if they release the statue too. If so, it continues the pattern, and my confidence in a separate release for tyranid terrain will go up.

I live in hope that they finally put the Typhon box set up for pre-order this weekend (ie 7/8 June).

It has a box of hormagants in and I assume given the solo campaign stuff maybe an additional book. Maybe not 145 then, but certainly clearing 100.

As Dudeface has pointed out, we already know what'll go up on pre-order on Saturday - Chaos Knights for 40k, a Star Player pairing for BB and a random character model for MESBG - but there is the chance that the Sunday preview article confirms KT coming the week after.
