I'm probably going to need a couple of days extension, I've been struggling with flu since Christmas and I won't be able to paint tomorrow because of New Years engagements...

The stuff I'm painting is just random Eldar (mainly) models, and they're not even that complicated, I just hadn't had the motivation to get stuff finished before Christmas and then flu has taken away the time after.

I was thinking when ai put up this month if I should just end it on the first anyway. Give people the new year’s day to finish up. December is a hot mess for a lot of people in a lot of ways. You need a couple of days, we can do that.

I will close this first thing in the morning on Friday the 3rd, eastern time. So a bit of extra time to work with.

Wanted to make sure this was not lost in the page rollover.

Some fantastic submissions so far! I'm not sure if I'll have more hobby time before the end or not, so here's 5 of the Word Bearer tacticals that I managed to undercoat at the start of the month

I'm about 95% with the star wars scenery so just need to try to finish the speeder bike and get a photo with it all.

I'll be damned, managed to get this done!

I was confident that I would be able to finish the Witch herself, but did not realize how much of a time sink the base and the "magical explosion" would be.
Good thing I had a lot of spare time after Christmas. I think I have painted close to 20 hours over the past three days haha.

Finished pictures of "Kat, the Witch's Apprentice"

A really fun project to paint!
It offered a lot of challenges and opportunities to learn something new, such as working with bright colors, magenta OSL, stockings and fur.

Brilliant stuff appearing. Good luck for everyone who is still finishing theirs!

And done!

Nice way to wrap the year up if I do say so myself. Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows are a staple of competitive Stormcast Eternals armies in AoS currently (or at least they were until the recent balance update) so it was nice to get mine battle ready. I slopped paint in a few spots, some of which I missed in my cleanup pass unfortunately, but these will do the job from tabletop viewing distance. Lots of nice entries coming in from the rest of you, too, so please keep them coming so we have a nice voting thread to kick the new year off!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Looking like a strong month from here!

Ezki, man, what a stunner! Lol

Working with bright colours is so rewarding when you pull it off, and you’ve pulled it off beautifully. Love the POW! Haha

I think this is my last update before the finished picture. Most colours on, just some touch ups to do. I think I need to do something to the skin - there is something not quite right and I can't put my finger on what it is.

Hey, just want to say I think that feathered head-dress is looking great! Regarding your comment on the skin, I can offer an observation.

In short, the skin needs more contrast; in particular shadows.

If you look at the deepest crevices on the model, say, inbetween the toes, you’ll notice the colour is nearly the same as the lightest mid tones on the upper torso. This is immediately obvious to the human eye. In reality, those deepest crevices should be far, far darker… even in a model with such light skin.

My suggestion would be to take a wash, say something dark blue/purple like Drakenhof Nightshade, and apply that to the skin and then highlight back up to those lighter tones. It shouldn’t be too difficult as that heavily textured boy will accept a good drybrush no problem at all. You could then reserve the very lightest tones for the face, fingers and upper body areas!

Another option, if you don’t fancy having to reapply the mid tones and highlights, is to take a wash and simply carefully apply it into the deepest cracks and crevices with a very small brush. This should add that extra punch and you wouldn’t need to bother adjusting anything else.

Anyway, that is what I think is missing, hope my suggestions are helpful in some way!

Thanks for the advice here - you were right.

Here is my finished effort, with an 'action shot':

Really great looking entries across the board.

That will work wonders for me, I've had a very busy work run up to xmas them mostly family stuff so really had very little time (or motivation tbh) to get a entry done.

The kids got me this for xmas so will be entering this chap, hes partly painted now but that extra time will let me finish it at least

Sorry I've not been around much, I hope you all had a good Xmas and have a good new year.

Amazing work as usual, Ezki My brain can't even comprehend how you are able to do what you do with a brush.

Certainly far from my best work, but my Tyranid Prime is done. I didn't want to use the extension since it was a personal goal to get this mini done before the new year.

New year, new contest!

OK, it’s the same old contest, just with a new topic for the month. Who can afford a new contest in this economy?

Pinch pennies, be frugal, get painting

Hard act to follow, but here goes:

This is Gargamar, the exiled son of the Goblin King, and a Paladin. Seen here activating his Divine Smite.

He's a character one of my students made for our campaign in my D&D/Warhammer Club at school.
He struggles in school, but can remember every detail of the campaign. As we're setting up I usually let him recap last week's session.
He can't read or write on grade level, but he wrote about three pages of backstory for Gargamar.

And, he loves Divine Smite.

The free hand on the shield comes from a drawing my student did and was inspired by the player's handbook.
