Its been a long time since I've played the games, but my recollection is she doesnt have much of a personality in them, at least in the first couple games.

I remember most of my friends being concerned less with her personality and more on her looks.

Most characters from that period didn't have much personality. They were John Everyman and Joan Everywoman characters most of the time, and that's certainly how I remember Lara.
I barely played the games but have fond memories of the Angelina Jolie movies. Well not 'fond' more like 'that was a tolerable use of my time'. Which for a video game movie is pretty good.

My biggest concern over this is the Phoebe Waller-Bridge involvement.
Not because she is a bad writer, but because of the issues with this show in particular in terms of the writing. Apparently the pitched scripts weren't well received, and the show had a huge number of rewrites and still nobody liked the script. Amazon had sunk a huge amount of money into the show but still didn't have a script and I feel at this point it's a sunk-cost investment and they are going with it anyway.....
