Subject: Konflikt' 47 - Wave 2 pre-order & The Rift War Volume One: Festung Europa announced
The Rifts are well and truly open! Over the last few days a fresh wave of excitement has crashed over the Konflikt ’47 community as influencers and content creators have been able to share the contents of Festung Europa, the first supplement for the game, which tells the story of the opening of the Rifts and how what was already a titanic conflict became the setting for heroes, horrors, monsters, and mechs.
The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed a couple of familiar names on the credits page – George Mann and Cavan Scott are listed as creative consultants. So, how are a couple of international best-selling authors and veterans of some of the biggest and most loved fictional universes involved with our merry band of Warlorders? Does that mean they are writing the new books? Not at all; our own in-house creative team led by Dan Hewitson has done the work of writing the fantastic new Konflikt ’47 supplement, working with our artists and sculptors, and building on the original concept that Clockwork Goblin created.
Here’s Peter Gosling, Head of Product, to explain – “George and Cavan are genuine leaders in building worlds full of compelling characters and stories. They are hugely experienced in constructing fictional worlds that are authentic, that feel real, and that people want to immerse themselves in. We’re right at the beginning of our journey with Konflikt ’47 but from the start we could see the potential to build something massive, something enduring. So we’ve asked George and Cavan, through their Strange Matter Media consultancy, to help us lay the first bricks carefully, so that the foundations of the Konflikt ’47 universe can support opportunities for future developments over the coming years.”
George and Cavan have helped build some of the most beloved franchises around, including Star Wars, Warhammer 40,000, Dark Souls, Marvel, and DC Comics, and their excitement at joining the project is palpable. Here’s Cavan – “Konflikt ’47 is packed with brilliant, larger-than-life characters just waiting to take centre stage. From the iron resolve of Roberta Wells to the animalistic menace of Gregor Drugov, the conflict is already crackling with drama. We’re excited to roll up our sleeves, dive into the trenches, and help push those stories into bold, unexpected territory.”
As you’ll discover, Festung Europa answers many of your questions but hints at so much more to come. The first series of supplements, supported by a stream of rules and gaming content – which will of course all be available free online through the Community site, as well as in the Warlord Games App – will describe the setting for the Rift War and the awesome miniatures with which you’ll be able to fight these apocalyptic battles. Working with George and Cavan helps us create narratives that are as nuanced and multi-layered as the enthralling historical settings that Warlord has explored for the last 18 years, and it will also allow us to look for other ways for people to dive into this incredible new universe. Who knows, we may even find ways to explore the origins of the Green Vault and how they rose to power!
Let’s give George the last word; “Konflikt ’47 is exactly the kind of world we love – strange, brutal, and full of story potential. Warlord Games has developed a wonderfully grim, hard-edged setting, and it’s a real privilege to get stuck in and start digging deeper into the lore. There’s so much room to explore, and we’re relishing the chance to help shape what comes next.”

Subject: Re:Konflikt' 47 - Wave 2 pre-order & The Rift War Volume One: Festung Europa announced
Festung Europa pre-orders are in full swing, and this is a book that promises to see a lot more dead men walking across tables all over the world. We’ve already looked at the awesome new plastic Totenkorps sprue, and with influencers starting to delve into advance copies of the book, we’ve seen some fantastic new artwork of them as well. Don’t worry – you can also see it below!
You might notice there’s a particular Axis walker which arrived on pre-order at the same time as the book featured pretty heavily in that artwork – the Sd.Kfz. 501/1 Nachtzehrer. This plastic kit is packed with poseability, and also makes another vehicle – the Sd.Kfz. 501/4 Infernospinne – which trades all the special rules we’re about to talk about for a really big flamethrower and bad intentions. Let’s take a closer look at the Nachtzehrer in all its sinister glory, and see what the sprues hold:
So, what is this mechanical monstrosity, and what does it do? A cousin of the infamous Spinne and Vogelspinne walkers so familiar to Axis players, the Nachtzehrer has a very simple job – reanimating fallen soldiers for service in the Totenkorps! It accomplishes this by means of injectors on its blade-like forearms, which are connected to a huge tank of Albrecht von Zögling’s newest serum. When a suitable corpse is pumped full of this liquid, it rises to fight once more, old loyalties discarded in favour of an unthinking obedience to the Axis cause. The Nachtzehrer are thus at the forefront of the massed Totenkorps formations doing battle across Europe, something covered in detail in Festung Europa.
So what does this actually mean on the tabletop? What does the Nachtzehrer do?
Quite simply – it kills things, turns them into Totenkorps, and makes nearby Totenkorps units better! It does this courtesy of a couple of nifty special rules, and a very powerful Active Rift Enhancement, as well as the aforementioned stabbing arms!
You’ll be able to find all of these rules in detail in the free PDF army lists, alongside plenty of other new units and characters, which will of course be updated when Festung Europa is released, and on the Warlord Games App, but for now let’s take a look at them in general terms:
Dead Medicine
When nearby Totenkorps units attempt to bring back models using The Dead Rise – Again!, they get a bonus to the roll, making them more likely to regenerate casualties.
Medical Implements
While the Nachtzehrer’s arms aren’t quite as powerful in close quarters as normal walker arms, they come with a deadly benefit. Every time the Nachtzehrer destroys an enemy infantry model (with a few exceptions!), it can make a test. If that test is passed, the model reanimates, and can join a nearby Totenkorps unit as its newest member – and this can even take Totenkorps squads over their maximum size!
Corpse Harvest
The Nachtzehrer’s special rules are certainly powerful, but its Active Rift Enhancement is what really sets it apart. If an infantry unit – friend or foe! – is destroyed within 6”, the Nachtzehrer can Exhaust its Rift Die to turn them into Totenkorps! Not reinforcements to an existing unit, though – we’re talking a whole new unit, with its own Order and Rift Die, freshly raised and ready to kill. There’s a reason we put so many Totenkorps in our new plastic box; we know that if you’re going to run Nachtzehrer, you’re going to need plenty of extra corpses!
All of this gives the Nachtzehrer a very clear battlefield role – you want yours right at the front, supporting your waves of Totenkorps as they shamble towards the enemy. It’s almost like it’s a complete concept that could easily be turned into a starter army… or a
NEW PLATOON STRUCTURE!
That’s right – the Totenrotte Platoon will be joining the Axis army list as a brand new way to field your forces. This can be taken instead of the Assault Platoon as the mandatory platoon in your force, and gives you everything you need to command a mighty horde of the living dead. With two Totenkorps squads and two Nachtzehrer among the mandatory units, it’s not subtle – taking a Totenrotte is a pretty clear statement of intent – but it is brutally effective if you use it well. It also comes with a very handy special rule, allowing your Totenkorps to become scoring units for objectives under the right circumstances. Want to field an army composed of nothing but the risen dead and their handlers? Now you can!
The Totenrotte Platoon is the first new platoon to be announced, but if you don’t play Axis, don’t worry – we’ve got another one to show off before Festung Europa launches. This is just one of the ways we’ll continue to expand Konflikt ‘47, giving players even more ways to field their models and tailor their forces to both their preferred playstyle, and the lore that makes up each of the supplements. This is just the beginning, and you can expect to see plenty more new platoons on the way as the game grows.

That sounds really cool, especially the new force selector. I wonder what the other nations are going to get.
There do seem to be some zombified yanks and soviets too, unless those are conversions.

They are not. The plastic kit comes with bodies for wearing those uniforms plus a zombified Firefly complete with jetpack(no rules bearing).
The book also has art of a zombie Stahltrupen and Ursus.

Has something changed recently with Konflikt '47? Perhaps the algorithm god has blessed the game?
I ask because I have seen the local player-base exploding all at once. One FLGS sold four starter armies to four folks in the last week, and I have a wholly unrelated (and not nearby) venue asking me to run a demo for an interested group.
Just unexpected as it seems like at least in this area, it came out of nowhere and immediately overtook stuff like MCP (to be fair AMG's good will is gone locally at this point).

The new edition last year did really well so Warlord are throwing lots of resources at it - new plastic kits, a roadmap for new books, etc. They're also keeping podcasters, etc. in the loop to keep up the hype.

That horde of zombified war dead is pretty disturbing. Strangely, more so that anything in Trench Crusade, which is far more extreme. I'm keeping my eye on K-47; with some more plastic support it might be worth getting into.

I definitely think it has the potential to do really well. Its an evocative setting, some good names involved throughout the creative process, the connection to Bolt Action with a great ruleset. Bolt Action players can also just chuck a unit of zombies or armoured walkers in also and be good to go, as you're allowed to use Bolt Action lists.
Its funny I remember the Clockwork Orange guys visited a club I played at (probably at least 10-12 years ago now) to try and get people playing their game (this was before Warlord bought it). Absolutely no-one was interested, which was such a shame as they had clearly made such an effort with the miniatures and setting. So its good that years later their concepts are finally getting the release and reception they deserve.
Clockwork Goblin, and yes - I liked the 15mm version but couldn't find anyone else interested (same thing happened with All Quiet on the Martian Front).
A new way to field your Firefly jump troops is coming.
Last week we took a brief look at the Totenrotte – a terrifying new way for Axis players to run entire armies of Totenkorps – and we said at the very end that there was also something for United States players to look forward to in their army lists when Festung Europa arrives. Well, here it is! Let’s meet the upcoming…
FIREFLY PLATOON
This one really does what it says on the tin – it allows you to field a whole platoon of America’s finest jump troops. “But wait,” I hear you cry. “We can already do a platoon of Fireflies. We’ve even got a Platoon Commander!”. Well, yes, that’s true – but trust me, if you like Fireflies, you’ll want to read on.
So, what makes the Firefly Platoon different from a regular US Assault Platoon full of Fireflies? Well, this platoon is designed to represent the first wave of a Firefly drop assault (such as you might see in the Operation Touchdown section of Festung Europa!), and is kitted out as such. Just like the Totenrotte, the Firefly Platoon can replace the Assault Platoon as the mandatory core of your force, and comes with its own set of mandatory units – in this case one Firefly Platoon Commander (or Roberta Wells!), two squads of Fireflies, and a Linebacker! Right off the bat this gives you a compact, hard-hitting force which can happily also be built straight out of the US Starter Army box.
For your optional extras, you’ll notice that the theme of ‘must be able to drop into combat, or at least be convincingly thrown out of an aeroplane’ prevails. Want another Linebacker? Why not take two more? If smaller walkers are more your speed, try on 0-3 M2A1 Mudskippers and/or 0-3 M5A5 Jackals! We can see a theme beginning to develop very quickly here – drop in, hit hard, move fast. The infantry backs this up – two more Firefly squads, if you please – and then there’s a fun selection of support teams. These are where it gets even more interesting.
Want a Medic? Sorry, we’re all out of stock. However, there is this nice Firefly Medic that’s just dropped in – might he be of interest? That’s right – beneath it’s oh-so-normal garb, this platoon conceals…
NEW FIREFLY UNITS If you’re going to drop into combat alongside the Fireflies, it’s a good idea to go through the training yourself. All the special teams in this squad have got the memo, meaning you’ve got Firefly Forward Observers, Firefly Flamethrower Teams, and the aforementioned Medic waiting in the wings to join the force. All this makes the Firefly Platoon a compact, hard-hitting force that can easily be expanded to become your whole force, or taken at its minimum strength to add an ‘alpha strike’ element to a wider US collection. They’re also a great opportunity to use some of the extra bits on the plastic Firefly sprues. Backing the concept up are the…
NEW PLATOON RULES Just as the Totenrotte Platoon has a couple of nasty tricks up its sleeves (including the ability to make Totenkorps scoring under the right circumstances), so too does the Firefly Platoon increase the qualities of the troops to which it restricts you. In this case, it gives you a once-per-turn re-roll of Regroup in Hell!, perfect for getting a squad out of a tight spot, but the real star turn comes before the game. One unit from the platoon can be nominated for special treatment – when arriving from Reserve using either Jump or Flight, enemy units within 12” are unable to react to its arrival by opening fire! It also receives another special bonus in certain circumstances, but we don’t want to spoil all the fun of cracking open the army list on Update Day… The possibilities here really are great, allowing you to deliver a devastating first strike, dive on a crucial objective, or seize a vital piece of cover, without having to weather a storm of incoming fire.
So, yes – you could just take an Assault Platoon full of Fireflies. However, we’re pretty confident that if you’ve got a good head for heights, an M1X1/2, and bad intentions towards the enemy, you’ll want to take a look at running a new Firefly Platoon when Festung Europa arrives!
I wonder if we're going to get models for the Firefly Flamethrower Weapon Team, Observer & Medic or if the intention is to kitbash them from the existing plastic kit.

That would definitely be an interesting way to steer the releases, having these additional options as part of sub-factions. A couple more weeks now until Festung Europa is released, as well as the new zombie kit.
I wonder if we're going to get models for the Firefly Flamethrower Weapon Team, Observer & Medic or if the intention is to kitbash them from the existing plastic kit.
Most likely just conversions as there's already parts on the sprues for Flamethrowers and then between the pistol, the big bag, field glasses, and the hand holding the paper, there's plenty of existing parts to make the other two.

Yeah I agree with Plantuan on that. We may see them in time but not the near future. As it is with the current kit you have the infantry flame thrower covered and the other ones are very easy to kitbash for most.
I was lucky enough to be sent out a couple of the Nachtzerer kits by Warlord, awesome kit and pretty decent size too. It fills a 100mm round base well.

Excited for that kit and the new Totenkorp, but I am also praying this isn't off the charts power-creep. Totenkorp were already on the cusp of being too good, and with ways to just grow whole free units in addition to improving respawn rates AND making Toten scoring... that feels like a very GW, "Here's a new detachment... it renders all standard lists moot."

Taking a look at one of the lead characters of Festung Europa.
So, you’ve pre-ordered a shiny new Totenrotte Platoon, and you’re eager to get your dead men walking. But – who should lead them? A standard Platoon Commander would be too squeamish for the task, and lacks the required expertise to properly command the dead in any case. The new Totenrotte Platoon Commanders are of course hand-picked for this work, pairing Advanced Body Armour with the usual gamut of Hero options. They’ll do nicely, but sometimes you want to bring in the expert. Sounds like a job for…
DER ERNTEMANN
Der Erntemann (or Oberstarzt Albrecht von Zögling, to give him his proper name*) is kind of a big deal when it comes to the Totenkorps. His nickname, translating to ‘the Harvestman’ is an apt one – he’s the leading light of the entire program, responsible for the ongoing development of the Totenkorps and their supporting equipment. While he’s often holed up in his Dresden laboratory conducting unspeakable experiments, like any true scientist he also sees the value in a little fieldwork. Whenever he gets the opportunity to observe his creations in action, von Zögling will take to the field to direct them, gathering valuable data and fresh specimens.
This isn’t some pasty-faced lab coat we’re dealing with here, though. Der Erntemann revels in the carnage wrought by the Totenkorps, and will often get stuck in himself to get his hands on a particularly valuable enemy corpse. As the battlefield is a dangerous place, von Zögling has taken pains to make himself a dangerous man, skilled with gun and blade. However, he has also elevated himself – literally – with his battle harness. Equal parts weaponised carriage and mobile surgery, the multi-limbed frame allows him to strike out at his foes in all directions, while also carrying enough surgical equipment and stores of his signature serum to re-animate any particularly promising victims nearby.
So, we know a little about the man (and you can find out much more in Festung Europa!), and we’ve seen his fantastic miniature. Let’s look at Der Erntemann on the tabletop!
First off, he’s obviously a Hero – albeit only to a very specific set of people – and as such comes with a couple of points of Rift Mastery and one of Luck, and (count ‘em!) three Rift Dice. He can also fill the mandatory commander slot in a Totenrotte Platoon, as is only appropriate, and comes equipped with a pistol and his battle harness, which grants him Deadly (2), as well as a variation on the Medical Implements special rule that we saw with the Nachtzehrer, although his benefits only the Totenkorps bodyguards (0-6) that may accompany him as a personal retinue. He’s also a Specialist Medic, granting himself and any nearby Totenkorps a chance to shrug off incoming fire.
On top of this, he’s a 6+ Damage Value Fearless Veteran who quite appropriately causes Horror, and has quite a tasty Active Rift Enhancement which gives him another way to return fallen models to his own squad, and making it easier for nearby Totenkorps squads to use The Dead Rise – Again!. He is Bulky, though, meaning he’ll have to footslog it alongside the undead – it’s a good job he’s tough as nails and usually surrounded by literal meatshields, as he’ll be a top priority target for the enemy!
Der Erntemann is a fantastic choice if you plan to include any number of Totenkorps in your force, and he really shines in command of a Totenrotte Platoon, meshing perfectly with the Nachtzehrer and the platoon’s special rules to turn your Totenkorps from walking tar-pits into a surprisingly flexible tactical force – just don’t plan on doing too much shooting!
