I think the new ones look a bit too over-egged and cartoony, while the old ones had that creepy horror vibe.

The older Nachts definitely hit that "poor German soldier that's been experimented on" vibe while the new ones look more like purposefully vat-grown monstrosities.

Also, that pushfit Firefly is awesome, wish they'd put as much creativity and love into the Stahltruppen instead of just tactical rock.

If anyone is interested I've started a thread for people to post their project updates and any K47 discussion, down in the depths of the forum. Would be great to see what people are working on for the game.

Isn't K47 more expensive or at least as expensive as 40k? I looked at some of the prices and they seem pretty high per model.

For the Japan starter set it's about 130 euros for 1 tanks 1 mech, 10 infantry and an officer.

A Necron combat patrol is 135 euros and you get 3 scarabs, 10 warriors, a doomstalker, a character, 3 skorpekhs and a macrocyte.

On the flip side, Bolt Action is very good value; for about 125 euros you get 42 (!) infantry, 2 tanks and an artillery piece.

At first I thought it might just be the Japanese starter but no, the US starter is also around 130 euros and also comes with just 10 infantry, 3 vehicles and a leader.

Why is K47 so much more expensive?

The current K47 starter army boxes are plastic & resin, and vary wildly in points - Axis 686, Japan 809, Brit 1062 & USA 1182 (before upgrades). There are new all-plastic starter armies coming at the end of the year.
The material makes a difference - five Mk I Robots are £34.50 in metal (or £37 with HMGs), £30 in resin, or £18.50 in plastic (full cost from Warlord)

The Axis army I faced off against today cost my opponent £100 for 1499 points - the Tottenrotte Starter Army box & 'Der Erntemann' Oberstarzt Albrecht von Zögling. My British army was about £160.

The price per mini for the k47 branded releases are certainly higher for Warlord's range and pushing towards GW levels.
However the caveats are (as Beast-gts has pointed out) you need far fewer models for your army than a GW 40k/Sigmar equivalent. Also you can use the entire Bolt Action range or other WW2 28mm ranges, which are a lot cheaper. I am putting in some BA weapons teams with head-swaps and other small conversions, tanks etc.

PS - Insane that the walker thing is actually a printable 'mini'! I assumed it was just a special custom job put together for the demo table!

I think we may be at the point where it's quicker/cheaper/easier for a company that's already using 3D printers to draw up something on a computer than throw physical bits together.

I too feel Warlord weighed the cost to produce/sell a "retail" one and figured it's easier and better to just give the files than try and move what would probably be a very expensive(and incomplete if you want the proper globe) model for what so far is a single scenario piece. Demand for actually selling/buying it probably isn't that high.

They originally said it was a scratch-build for a display table, but I suppose now scratch-build can include custom 3D models...

I'm really excited for it, and am thinking about making variants (depending on the STLs!) - a troop transport / command deck version the allies need to chase after & intercept, a railway gun / V-Launcher one they need to disable before it can fire, a zombie harvester, etc.


The Salute push-fit Stahltruppen comes with a 25mm base and that has upset many people...

With the starter armies and the mixed materials I think there was an initial bit of sticker shock for some.

However, if you look at the latest army you have the 95% hard plastic Totenrotte Starter army.

That's

3 man Warlord resin platoon HQ minis.
45 hard plastic Zombies
2 Hard plastic Nachtzehrer's/Infernospinne

And the Infernospinne is a pretty hefty mini.
Throw in the 16 dice (8 order, 8 rift) that would set you back £20 odd from GW alone then you have a much better value proposition. I finished mine yesterday.

Japan has a mixed media starter already, but if you want to wait for majority hard plastic, you have a while as it's not scheduled until December or around then.

I'm going to assume that it's unpainted and he's using multi-colored resin as a visual aide to differentiate different parts of the kit.

Yes thats it exactly. Although in K47 you don't have that on 'main' army lists and it is used for specific scenarios. Which I think is a sensible approach as they don't need to skew the objectives/mission system for someone turning up, backing their van outside the club and then unloading that thing onto the tabletop.

That makes a lot more sense and I'm happy that it's an objective and they are not aping GW and their indecisiveness when it comes to scale.

I thought that was just photoshop in Warlord's photos.

Yes - their display model has a plasma ball, and the STLs are designed so you can swap out the solid ball for a 3" plasma ball.
