Start with the positive, the red terror looks great.
The rest is, ugh.
So guard have world war two tanks now. Like straight up copys of them. Why?
The Ork bike is saturday morning cartoon bad guy in the worst possible kind of way.
The steel legion reveal is obviously a panicked reaction to the feedback of the last week. I'd bet Somebody drew that design sketch last night!
I've no interest in AoS anyway but walking castles, and giants with crows nests on their heads, just more durp.
And more non marine releases for HH, niche factions for a now niche game.
All in all a very disappointing reveal.

Interesting to see Cities of Sigmar getting properly expanded. I'm glad they're doing that, I always felt the original Cities was about the laziest thing about AoS - we've got this entire new world that is thousands of years and an entire different reality to WFB but coincidentally humans, elves and dwarves all live together and they look EXACTLY the same as their old cultures.

I am quite surprised that out of the blue Guard gets new vehicles and, character version aside, they're done with restraint concerning the placement of weapons on every surface. They actually look nice at that, certainly generic enough to see use in other games.
Cadian recon squad looks great, had thought it'd be an upgrade sprue, not a whole new kit upon reading the blurb at first. Again, almost generic enough to see a lot of use in other games, wahey.
Bit miffed we're still not getting super-heavies for the Solar Auxilia, but seeing as this is Tallarn part 1, hopefully the next one will give us that, instead of more Astartes armour.

Oh, those new Eshin rats are terrific. Don't love the character, bit much, but the troops are exactly what I'd have hoped them to be. Good poses, mix of weapons, dynamic, and yet not too much terrain on the bases and most figures with two feet on the ground (/strategic rock) instead of just leaping all over the place. Some of the Skaven have had slightly off proportions (very long thin arms); these seem better in that regard too. What a great update.
New Riders of Rohan also look exactly as they should; a very welcome refresh. Instead of all those proposed new movies, I wished Peter Jackson would be interested in a Last Alliance prequel just to get the Elves and Numenoreans finally updated as new plastics too!
Also, the Red Terror looks ace.

Panic-response to negative feedback?
Models take years to go from concept to production. I highly doubt we're that far out on Steel Legion which means this is something planned. The only thing that would be responding to the negative feedback would be that trailer getting a new voice over.
Mentioned elsewhere but the art shown is stamped 2025 afaik, so yes, it is both a panic response and years away. Enjoy the 2nd/joint most bloated codex I guess?

I've always loved Guard stuff, but the half track and armoured car just look way too actual-WW2 somehow. And I'm also fine with the whole "there's local types of military vehicles all over the galaxy" in the greater setting but for some reason these just don't do it for dieselpunk gothic STC. Couldn't they have found a better halfway point between this and the Taurox? Or who knows perhaps I'm just a grumpy old man who loves his 15 year old designs and new = bad. Would have been better as a slightly smaller two wheeled Tauros Venerator type thing maybe, it overlaps with both the chimera and hellhound currently.
The Eshin rats are chef kiss and long overdue.

Skaven troops and Yarrick are for me, both are sufficiently in line with their established concepts and have transitioned nicely into a more modern format. AoS Skaven have been about 90% hits for me, so my favourite faction is thriving.
KT red terror and scouts look great, the latter might double as tanith troops with a bit of work.
CoS continue walking the line between laughable and interesting, with the cogforts standing right on it. Impressive designs by themselves that look nothing like warhammer to me. Gate giants are out of some 2010s animation movie. Grenadiers are admittedly pretty cool. The mounted character is whatever, just another mounted hero.
Armageddon is a mixed bag. The half track is fine but too vanilla, the hippogryph looks bad. Commissar pimpwagon looks out of place and I'm worried that they are setting her up as the one to kill and replace yarrick.
Ordo xenos inquisitor is an interesting idea badly executed, he looks like an AoS character converted to 40k. Wazzdakka is fine, I'm gonna wait for some more angles and paint jobs. The Dogmata is utterly forgettable, imagine this being a new Karamazov instead, oh well. AoS design sensibilities bleeding into 40k unfortunately continues to a noticeable extent. "Just put something on a monstrous mount"can't always be the solution.

The other reveals mostly feel phoned in, safe, unexciting, like the sculptors did the bare minimum to meet the design brief.

Kill Team is looking awesome, but if a Screamer Killer is in the game then might as well have Wardogs and Armigers. The return of both the Zoat and Ambull is a wish come true. The Red Terror...ohhhh my. The most impressive announcement for Kill Team so far. A Horus Heresy expansion would go a long way right now.
MESBG...cool. While expecting an offering for The Hobbit, I'm more in with WOTR anyway and could do with captains for both the Tribesmen and Rohan. The journal will probably be a miss as it sounds like a repeat of the WOTR journal. If I do expand to the LOTR era then it would be for the monster-adventure content - like Moria. After Moria LOTR kinda drifted into a war story and lost a little bit of it's charm.
If I didn't have so many other purchases at the moment I'd probably get the Lumineth warband for Underworlds.
Heresy...the Spartan Prometheus feels a bit unnecessary at this time after the rush of new Marine releases, but the Solar Ogryns and Rapiers are much needed units. As always, I'd much prefer to see Knight-related releases and there's no incentive for Liber Questoris players yet to buy into the new edition. A simple journal with rules for the Dominus and new Destrier and I might give the game another thought. Otherwise, its time to release a skirmish spinoff.
40K and AOS are complete yawns for me now. Valrak has already previewed both and its not even a surprise anymore. If GW provides rules to use the Destrier for Combat Patrol then I'll be happy.

Skaven, CoS mages, Yarrick, MK7 helmet on a Primaris, and the Red Terror were the standouts. Verdict on the new Boyz pending.
The rest was either resoundingly whatever, like the rest of the CoS stuff; or downright baffling, like the new IG vehicles.
I suppose it's nice to have updated Riders of Rohan, even if they're not Perry sculpts.

I'm going to go with it's a combo of you being a grumpy old man + you choosing to ignore the facts that not everything (actually very little) in the Guard is of dieselpunk gothic design and they've always had WWII+ vehicles....
I mean, Krieg rolls around in WWII Universal/Bren Carriers (the original FW Centaur), Guard have had Russian BMPs since 2e (even more obvious when you add a FW autocannon instead of the multilaser), in RT they had access to US M113 APCs (Rhinos), Elysians have Venators - a very 90s/modern DPV dune buggy. Basilisks, especially when you add track guards & the armored compartment? Those are WWII German Hummels.
And then there's Vultures, Valkyries, etc - definitely not deiselpunk.
So what if two more almost WWII vehicles join the party? Who knows, maybe I'll buy a GW kit the next time I'm in need of a 40k 1/2track instead of a Tamyia kit....

I’m kinda liking the new Guard vehicles. They do feel WW2, and whilst not a buff on it, I’ve recently enjoyed some YouTube videos about the development of tanks associated (Firefly FTW).
What I like about the Guard equivalent is to my mind, they’re a sign of how desperate the fighting now is. For all its industrial might, demand and logistics are a challenge. So I see these as second line reserves being hauled out of mothballs, or finding a new lease of life as their niche becomes more common.

Yeah I'm not really getting where all the "WW2? In MY Imperial Guard!?!" sentiment is coming from. Guard has always been a mishmash of 19th-20th century warfare. They literally used to feature people - including GWHQ bods - converting vehicles *just* like these out of Chimera and Russ hulls in White Dwarf and there were halftrack conversions and even aftermarket kits for the Taurox really quick after release(though in that case probably because the original looks so wonky).
These are the most Classic 40K thing GW has done for 40K in years IMO(though I am Big Mad they're stealing the Centaur moniker back from FW's stuff, there are still other mythical beast names left GW Studio you petty gits).
IG vehicles are great, the SAux stuff for 30K is very nice, I like the Store Own Brand Gaunt's Ghosts KT, the Eshin will look wonderful once properly emplaced on square bases as God intended, and there's nothing to really Rabble Rabble over except maybe the HR-approved redesign of the Steel Legion but eh there are already third party options for those lads if you prefer the proper original look. Overall a very successful preview IMO.

For the longest time 40k was WW1 in space, from gameplay/tactics up to aesthetic of fighting with swords and armour against machine guns
Now moving the design of the models to WW2 feels off for that reason
Specially if there are prominent WW2 elements there without understanding why they are there in the pictures used as template (like how they added the folded gun stock as random front element to Interceptors)
Not that the new models look bad themselves of Cadia not looking better than ever.
Simply that a US WW2 army looks off in a WW1 setting

I think you're vastly underestimating the impact of the WW1 style track assembly on how much those vehicles look like WW2 and beyond designs, given that is arguably the most noticeable element of the hull design.

I'm quite underwhelmed.
But really I think its the GW in house painting style.
There's something about it that doesn't work for me. I think its something about the hyper-highlighting so a 2 inch model looks good when blown up to four or five times the size on a computer screen. But its giving a lot of models this... plastic quality. And yes - you could say they are plastic toys, but I didn't used to get that.

The reveals are way more interesting than I expected.
1st place i give to Night runners and gutter runners. (The assassin is way too busy)
2nd place - Red Terror. Stunning critter, I will be getting that.
3rd place - Solar Auxilia (just hope ogryns have all masked versions of heads)
Wazdakka - I have mixed feelings about, cool sculpt, but needs some tinkering. A diffferent head, no flames (the wax over egg shape doesn’t work, not a fan of effects on minis in general), and a bit of reposing, repositioning to alter the composition somewhat.
Guard - some cool’s stuff, I quite like the Comissar mobile, the tanks are kinda meh, but not bad.
The Tyranid hunters are lame, even if we downplay the fact, that they should’ve been Catachans.
Underworlds - cow elves are ugly, but I dislike the whole range, so they are just not for me really.
Cities of Sigmar - the crab tower is actually… pretty damn neat. Wasn’t expecting to like something like that, but that’s a cool piece. Reminds me of Warmachine colossuses, but with better and more interesting details.
Gargants suffer from the mannequin pose syndrome, and infantry I’m indifferent about.
Lotr - nice sculpts, would be keen, if I hadn’t stopped collecting lotr 20 years ago.
ARMAGEDDON - I doubt all the helmets will be of the classic variety, judging by the trailer and box cover, which is a shame.
The 2-in-1 boyz build give me an ick. Doesn’t feel natural. Like giving all SM chainswords. Good way for GW not to invalidate old models and sculpts for people, I guess. Kinda afraid, that the old kit will be going the way of the dodo soon, and the new garbage kit is now “legit”.
Rules - don’t care, haven’t played recent versions of 40k in ages.
The cinematic is a couple of steps back compared to Leviathan, which is unexpected.

Besides the Inquisitor, which looks absolutely phenomenal, there wasnt anything I liked in this preview much.
Red Terror is just like an upscaled Ravener. The new rules for large things in KT might be interesting though.
New guard vehicles look straight ripped from G.I. Joe. Absolute low point, terrible paintjobs
AOS stuff looked kind of aight but I'm not into fantasy
At least I can now forget about buying into the 11th launch box, since both the Astartes and Orks looks disappointing to me. I'd rather build an Ork army from multiples of Kommando kit than these suckas

My main personal takeaways:
Cadian Kill Team: Tanith Troopers but I quite like my Cadians with Peachy-inspired masking tape capes.
New Commissar's Transport: Love it but feel I shouldn't. A guilty pleasure.
Armoured Car: Inspired by an early Leman Russ based conversion featured in the Citadel Journal (1995ish). Tempted.

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can think this. The Imperial Guard has prominently featured Cossaks-In-Space, Victorian-British-In-Space, WW1-Hodgepodge-In-Space, WW2-German-Paras-In-Space, 1980's-Action-Movie-Cold-War-In-Space, US-Marines-In-Dress-Unform-For-Some-Reason-In-Space, Basically-Modern-Light-Infantry-In-Space, and Generally-Late-20th-Century-North-Americans-In-Space and those are just the variants with actual official miniatures at one time or another. Guard vehicles have run a huge gamut from the WW1/2 mashup of the Russ to the Cold War AFV of the Chimera to the not-Helicopters-In-Space of the Valkyrie. Heck the previous vehicle GW sold that bore the name Centaur was a space WW2 Bren Carrier.
To think that the Guard are just WW1 and so WW2 is out of place you have to ignore 80% of the model range and 99% of the fluff ever produced for the Guard.

That's probably the main element to be honest. Also looking at the Taurox it's much chunkier with thicker, more robust looking panel details, the exhaust stack, a bit of gothic frippery and the enclosed tracks face as opposed to "muh ww2 M5 suspension"

This sort of thing works as a 3rd party STL but it's way too close to basic historical gak for a GW product. The half track doesn't even have a single comically large bore weapon.
