If people are curious without clicking on links
Platoon £134
24 metal single miniatures, 3 lascannon teams, so 30 blokes and 3 heavy weapons so roughly £4.47 per bloke.
– 1 Commander
– 1 Regimental Standard Bearer
– 1 Veteran Guardsman with Master vox
– 1 Veteran Guardsman with Medi-pack
– 3 Vostroyan Lascannon Teams
– 1 Sergeant with power fist
– 1 Sergeant with power sword
– 1 Trooper with grenade launcher
– 1 Trooper with plasma gun
– 16 troopers with lasguns
Command squad £34 - same as platoon
– 1 Commander
– 1 Regimental Standard Bearer
– 1 Veteran Guardsman with Master vox
– 1 Veteran Guardsman with Medi-pack
Squad - £42.50
Different sarge to platoon, different special weapon (flamer)
Heavy weapon team £25
Bolter/Mortar/las
Sniper 2 man team £25
Special weapon/Sarge £22
3 sarges, plasma, grenade and flamer specials
So if you wanted every model...
Platoon, squad, snipers, bolter, mortar... £251.50
Release doesn't include the 3 casualties of the sarge with just a laspistol
The pricing of the heavy weapon teams just seems whack compared to the platoon/squad/command costing.
It wouldn't have been so bad if the platoon had had one of each heavy weapons team in it :(.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Plastic prices are heavy weapons squad (3 teams), 29.50/32.50
Command squad 25/29.50 with 5 or 6 1/2 guys in it
Infantry squad 25/32.50

I will likely get a platoon + the snipers. I haven't collected them so far, but I think they are great minis and in the grand scheme of things I find the platoon and squad prices... okayish. As mentioned by several posters: they are not that much more expensive than the regular Cadians (which sculpts I never really warmed with).
On that note: anyone interested in trading their Grenade Launcher guy for a Plasma guy? So me getting Grenade Launcher and you getting Plasma?

Individual Special Weapon troopers and Officers costing the same as 3 model Black Orc Command group or 5 rank-and-file Blorcs is wild.
I'll have to dig up my old Vostroyan collection to see if I'm missing anything crucial.

GW has to be taking the piss with these prices! For those who are saying they compare to buying the current plastic Cadian kits, don't forget that you can take 2 special weapons in a Cadian squad, but each squad of the Vostroyans only comes with one. So you're getting screwed on that. Also the Command Squad only comes with 4 dudes and you need 5 for the unit.
However, the counterargument is that these are collector pieces more than gaming pieces, so maybe one could factor that in to the prices and not worry about the models not being a fully optimal loadout for gaming. I'm not into Vostroyans that much myself so it's an easy skip for me. Now, if they did Praetorians like this, even at these prices, I'd at least be sorely tempted.

Also, they're metal. Metal figures are more expensive to buy from every single miniature company I've ever purchased from than plastics. Significantly. That's normal. What isn't normal compared to pretty much any other manufacturer is the price of those plastic Cadians to begin with...

Also... current plastic IG lines are kind of insane, price wise, so it's not like the MTO being a bit more expensive than that is reasonable. Agreed, those prices for Cadians are bonkers, even more bonkers than the Vostoroyans.
I can understand still getting them though - there's stuff where if they re-released them I'd be extremely tempted even with bonkers prices.
These guys are cool but not in that category for me. Would love to play a game against a painted army of these guys though, absolutely great 40K aesthetic.

I am still debating if I'll get a squad or not. The prices are absurd but I would really enjoy one real squad before having someone's printer go brrrt. I have 3 squads, a command section and heavy weapons for most of the other metal regiments and I would really like the same for these guys. luckily I can think it over to the weekend. I would be happy with just the one squad and its still better than the pants on head ebay prices for the official models.

I'm still resisting.
I have plenty of Cadians to build as Ventrillians plus the new vehicles. Waiting in the wings are the built and undercoated twenty Death Riders.
Plus, I'm kind of put out that the Platoon box doesn't give the extra bod for a full five strong Command Squad. It does make a purchase more resistable if I consider having to find an extra trooper via eBay or wherever.
Am I just being picky?

In the way, way back my solution to the lone squad in a different army was a Steel Legion squad in the Cadian army's only Chimera as its visually distinct mobile infantry element. I was happy with it.
That was a different time, of course, but with the expansion of the Imperial Guard motor pool, if I did the same today with a squad of Vostroyans, I'd consider Chimeras for the army and one tarted up half-track for the Vostroyans, possibly the Commissar car.

Good old Armoured Fist squad. Veterans in a chimera with mean guns. Drive up, disembark, blow hell out of something, profit. Also a nice alternative to building full-on infantry platoons in the older guard codexes.

When playing it as Krieg CS you'd need even two more. I'd just take a servitor or a suitable Inquisition henchman from that time to fill the squad - guys you usually find in the artworks too.
But well, it's your decision - the MtO isn't that appealing pricewise.

That's not a bad idea. Sister Doialogus or likewise.
Pricewise, not as bad as I thought it would be for the Platoon.
Then again, I still have a bunch of freshly stripped Praetorians to Contrast up plus the Victoria Lamb Kickstarter waiting in the wings.

Before they discontinued the metal Steel Legion as a regular part of the range, it had actually become cheaper than the contemporary plastic squads, and had a heavy weapon to boot. The Steel Legion squad had essentially stayed the same price for about a decade whilst the plastic squads kept creeping up until they actually overtook the metals. I managed to snag a bunch just as they did the last chance to buy. Absolutely wild, and really shows how much of a mark-up the plastic kits probably get.

They did indeed. When first released, they had the carapace armour doctrine under the 3.5th Imperial Guard codex doctrines system (along with hardened fighters, sharpshooters, heavy weapons platoons, and special weapons squads). That made for some expensive, elite guardsmen!

To be fair, under the old AP system the jump from 5+ to 4+ save almost doubled survivability, as alot of things were AP 5 thus ignoring the 5+ save, in general only heavy weapons were AP 4 or lower to go through the Carapace Armour.

I use them as Militia in HH and give them all (the HWS too) the 4+ via Armoury of Old Night. They fit quite well in the setting and as a more 'normal' force next to my Mechanicum.
Funnily they were designed after some Blanche sketches for Horus Heresy only to be historically noninvolved there when they were released...

Well, all of those upgrades combined bumped a Guard squad from 60pts to 105pts. That is a lot for a Guard squad. Carapace was 20pts per squad.

Yeah, but well worth it, especially for Carapace at the time.
That's what attracted me to Vostroyans in the first place: One of the only "medium" heavy armies at 4+ armor save. Nearly everything else was Meq (T4 3+) or T3, 5+ like both eldar armies, and guard. Only Tau and Vostroyan var semi-elite enough to be 4+ which was an extremely nice place to sit at the rules back then. Perhaps comparable to 3+/4++ invul in 10th? Almost no weapons had AP4 except autocannon, and AP123 was surely wasted on these lads.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I pulled the trigger and ordered the Platoon.
The 3 lascannons you get was the deciding factor. I'd regret not getting them sooner or later. The models are great for a lot of conversions/drivers and so on (gunner and binocular guy).
I pay under protest, due to the predatory pricing on the special weapons singles (which I didnt order), but gotta vote with my wallet and ask for more of the same, I suppose.
Also, would like to kitbash a few of these lads and with metal, I might need a lot of attempts to get it right. I want the flag for my Vostroyan version of Commisar Graves commiecar, for starters.

I've been sticking anvil industries heads on the cadian bodies to make them appear more Vostroyan in appearance and honestly that works for me at least (and a matching paint job). I ended up actually getting the command squad off Ebay (going to be used for conversion work and magnetization, especially the banner guy). I've literally got every other mini. It was $4 more expensive after shipping and I get it next week rather than in a year when I've forgotten why I ordered it.
I also miss the old 'make your own guard' system. Detachments is fine but none of them provide that 'medium armor' asthetic unless you want to just do scions/karskin. Which, while I don't mind them, I continually get annoyed at the 'only cadians' vibe of some things especially since the planet got kablooed.

They always produce some initial stock before putting it up then run the MTO until the molds give out. These are definitely not stock they "found" laying around the warehouse, especially since they've moved warehouses and built multiple new production facilities.

And you're basing that on.....?
GW has a general policy of not keeping stock just sitting around, they don't just leave stuff in the warehouse that isn't needed and available. Made to Order products are something where they have made an initial batch when they have the ability to do so, then will find the room in the schedule for the rest within 6 months.

Not to mention that we're talking metal stock here, that's been off-sale for a while, and on their second MTO run.
Metal stock would get chucked in the smelting pot if no longer required.
Even if anything Vostroyan had been sitting around, it would've gone in their first MTO - as there shouldn't be excess stock after a MTO, given that's the point of a MTO...
