Say hypothetically that for whatever reason, every 40k / Fantasy army you currently play has been destroyed, stolen, sucked into the warp, etc and there is absolutely no chance you will get it back. What will you do? Will you start the same army over again? A fresh with a new army of the same game? Perhaps start with a new GW game (if you only played one to start), or simply say, "Well, GW, we had a good run" and quit.

To start, I think if I had to rebuild, I would probably continue with 40k, though I would not choose WH or DH again. Though I really like the armies, I don't think I could keep myself interested repainting them all, and would probably start a new army. Though I'm not positive what I would start, I think I would try the other side and see how chaos work out.

So, how about you?

I think it would be too heart breaking to rebuild the army again, no matter how much I liked it.

I wouldnt quit though, as I do enjoy gaming.

I vote new army.

after thinking about it for awhile, I have had two armies stolen (sisters and Dark eldar) and I pined for them back so much I bought both of them again. Only stronger and better than before.

The thing is, I only bought them with the intention of making them again. I got as far as painting a few models for each and that was it. I was too heart broken to really get into the swing again for them. They languish in boxes to this day, many years later.

So I still stick to my original statement. New army.

New army all the way. It's a fresh start, even if you didn't really want it to be >.>...

I actually had my Dogs of War Fantasy Army stolen a few years ago, so I can speak to this from first hand experience.

It's real easy to say just start over, but in my case I haven't been able to start a Fantasy army since then, so it pushed me completely out of that game.

GW stole my Squat army!

I'd go with a new army, or try to fix it. Stickytape cures any wounds.

Except open cuts. Don't even try it kids.

But i think starting again itll come out looking better than before since i know more (quick) painting tech!

I met a dude that left two cases of SpaceWolfs on a Train, he remember a second to late and watched them roll out of the station never to be seen again.... he didn't like talking about, but couldn't stop asking questions!

I would build different armies after such a loss. my two big armies are DIY Marines and Praetorians, both of which can be replaced from the same codex while looking very different. I might do a unified "renegade" force, with IG and Marines sharing the same basing, and the Marines usable as Loyalists and Chaos.

The more I think of it, however, the more I realize that without my armies to play, my interest in 40k would dwindle pretty quick. It would be hard to build back to where I was (multiple apocalypse sized armies).

In the past I would build a new army for the game system I played.

Lately, I think I'd move on to a new system. I have issues with 5th edition and the recent Space Marine rumors give me the impression that it is time to move on.

Unlike 10-15 years ago, there's alternatives available in my area.

Ya - part of what inspired this thread was a soldier that played at our local store, before GW put one in. Apparently his story was that he was playing a game in Iraq when a mortar came through his tent - he got out but his army wasn't so lucky. I believe that he restarted marines though.

I voted new army, but I think I'd be torn between new army and quitting because it would be too heart breaking to lose an entire collection of mini's and all the work that went into them. Continuing to play would only remind me of my loss. I suppose it's a question that you can't truly answer unless you experience it. I hope that myself and no one else ever has to make that decision tho.

Well this actually happened to me. When I first got into Fantasy I LOVED the Dwarves. Loved loved loved 'em. Went whole hog into the army.

And lost it.

No idea what happened to it, and I lament their loss to this day. I tried to start over again, but was just too depressed to do so. I ended up selling the remaining dwarves (including a battallion box I just bought) to a friend. I've been surfing WHFB armies since.

However if my 40K army was stolen (and man, that'd be like 30 kicks to the junk from someone wearing broken glass boots dipped in tobasco sauce) I'd definitely start a different Army. But I'd probably play Guard again eventually, just a different iteration (either Steel Legion or Praetorians). I've been eyeing a third Guard force for awhile now.

I might base my new army on how LITTLE Forge World makes for them...

It would be daunting to contemplate restarting the same army again with nothing. I have about 9,000 points each of Eldar and Orks. I do not know what I would do.

I sold off all of my 40K and WHFB armies, sold every White Dwarf I'd ever collected, all my books, and planned to get out of the hobby a couple years ago. And I did get out of the hobby for a while.



Then I got the itch again. My initial reaction was to rebuild my most played army - Deathwing. But then I decided it was time for something different. Something that played nearly the opposite of Deathwing. Thus my start into an IG army.

1997 - I became SICK of HeroHammer and sold off all my stuff, excepting some bits and bobs.

1999 - Picked up the 3rd Edition boxed set for $25. Loved it. Started Space Marines (sold them off), Imperial Guard (sold them off), Dark Eldar (sold them off), Tyranids (sold them off).

2004 - 4th Edition. Started Marines, sold them off. Started the Lost and the Damned.

2007 - Lost and the Damned removed from the game. Sold off a fully-converted army (in progress) at a tremendous loss. Started Tau.

2008 - Still playing Tau.

I insure my armies for replacement value on my homeowners policy. For a few dollars a year, I can get the value of every dime I have spent on my models should there be a fire or disaster or if they were stolen.

I probably wouldn't file a claim if one of my armies was stolen, but If I lost everything in my house, and all my figures died it is good to know I could rebuild. 10,000 points of orks and lots of resin pieces is a lot $$.

I lost roughly 4000 pts of orks (speed freaks, so a lot of trukks, gunwaggons, koptas, battlewagons) in a flood of my parents basement. My situation was a little different because I took a brief hiatus from the game. When I decided to get back into the hobby, I knew there was only one army for me.. orks. I couldn't help myself.

And I basically recollected the same bulk of my army (including forgeworld battlewagon). I am now probably back up around 3500 pts (though most of it is unassembled) with around 2000 pts painted. I'm not sure what GW could do to the orks, but I think I will always continue to play orks. They were my first army playing in second edition, and they were awful then, and now they are actually good! Though a lot of people are starting to play them, but I think that's great. Either way, I always have fun playing with my orks.

If you'd be that worked up over your toy army, I dread to think what would happen if it was an actual person you lost, instead.

I've got about £1,000 worth of Tau. If it got wiped out somehow, I would use the insurance money to buy a massive 6mm French Napoleonic army to go with my Russians.

If I'm completely out, I think I'm done for good. The only reason I'm still in is because I've got such a mass of stuff already built and playable. I have a lot of 40k armies, a couple good-sized WFB armies, and plenty of other stuff. Take all of that away, and I just don't think I'd have time to start over again.

Yeah, I'd buy more minis from other companies, but I
suspect I'd start purchasing stuff from GW again eventually.
Then one day I'll look from my paint table and realize,

I think you read into that a little too much.

I'd probably start afresh with something new.

Like Infinity or Urban War/Metropolis. Games I've been wanting to start, but due to space limitations, I can't atart a new army without getting rid of one that I already have - I have 3, and I use all three of them.

Gw is like your favourite pair of jeans. Worn, battered, and has the crotch fallen out, but they're still, comfy.

I'd be heartbroken. I have 5 or 6 thousand points of Orks at this stage, and 4 2000 point fantasy armies, as well as some death gaurd.
Part of me would just like to quit, stop paying attention and move on with PP and LOTR. I love both of those games, and have armies for both.
But I think I would probably pine for 40K a bit, and might end up doing Steel Legion with Forgeworld death korps rough riders and the renegade ogryn models...
Dunno if I could go back to orks though, it's been a decade of collecting at this stage! (One of my very first minis was a snakebite boarboy...)

I have not lost my models but I have lost two armies, LatD and 13th company. Both severe losses to me but I soildered on with Sisters and Deamons
