AKA 'How Deep Are Your Pockets?'
I ask this because another thread sparked a dim memory of a half baked plan I once had for a Chaos Marine Army. Kid Kyoto mentioned that the Chaos Terminator sprues didn't allow the player to build any combination of armanent from a single box.
I too had noticed this, and remembered that my solution was to make the 10 Terminators required entirely from the Terminator Lord kit. Yup. I was honestly going to do that. Mental huh?
But thats not all. Not only do I have more Bitz than I know what to do with, but it seems I am a sucker for pricey armies. Like my Savage Orc horde, which, once finished will have cost me around £300.
It's not that I have more money than sense. Living the South East of England, in a town with London Prices, National Wages, that would render me very much senseless, it's just that I cannot resist unique or unusual armies. Not only have I never seen a Savage Orc army, I have never seen a Savage Orc unit in my area. People just don't play them. Possibly due to the cost.
Same goes for my planned Ork army to mark my return to 40k. Conversions a-go-go, with money no option. Everything that isn't a basic Boy is going to be converted. How, I'm not yet sure. Inspiration sort of comes and goes as it pleases with me, leaving my Debit Card smouldering from overuse in it's wake. I know that the theory is to hack up whatever I have kicking about (see my thread in P&T about Stompas) but I just can't stop myself buying new and interesting kits. Like a wheeled Dark Eldar Raider to cart my Flash Gitz about in. So not only have I signed myself up for a fully converted unit, I find myself drawn to converting their sodding wheels! Perhaps it's because it can be made to look ded piratey and that, or perhaps I'm more susceptible to GW's peculiar brand of Crack...
So, how mental are you? What daft projects have drained your wallet? And more importantly, did you regret it? I know I haven't, and thats why I am worried!

I've done the eBay Drain four times just based on small innocent thoughts.
Innocent Thought 1:
Necromunda sure is a lot of fun. But it was better when we combined my set of terrain with my friend's set of terrain. You really can't do a lot with just one set. I'll see if they're on eBay.
$500 later I have 4 more complete sets of Necromunda terrain, and somehow ended up with 6 rulebooks.
Innocent Thought 2:
I would really like to have a set of Space Hulk tiles for special Necromunda scenarios.
$600 later I own every Space Hulk item ever produced, and somehow managed to pick up an extra copy of Tyranid Attack while I'm at it.
Innocent Thought 3:
Warhammer Quest was a fun game. I really miss that. I wonder if anyone's selling a copy on eBay?
$600 later I won every single Warhammer Quest item ever produced (except the Imperial Noble! NOOOO!) and somehow managed to pick up a complete extra set of monster minatures.
Innocent Thought 4:
Marines are boring and I'm sick of making lists for them. Hey, I've still got those two Necron Battle Forces that a friend left at my house years ago. I wonder if he'd be interested in selling them to me?
$600 later I have an 8000 point Necron army off eBay and even managed to convince my friends to buy me Necron stuff for my Birthday.
I don't like having innocent thoughts any more. They're always so expensive.

Sometimes I think GW bought up the rights to the USSR's psychic research and has a pool of Telepaths egging us on to ever grander, more involved and of course, more expensive projects.

I was introduced to 40k via a friend who showed me the fluff behind the the DeathWing, once reading that I had decided to go and collect the entire first company. Then I decided why stop with one company when you can collect the whole chapter? SO now I have the whole Dark Angel chapter plus various other armies, I guess I am very mental indeed.

You should organize those bits and sell them on ebay. You'd be surprised how much cash you can make just from bits. In fact if you have enough bits you can use it to buy your next army. In the apst couple months I've sold $1500.00 in bits and had a grand ole time buying my next army and updating my current one.

I'm pretty mental. Not nearly as bad as many, and I try to keep a limit on unpainted stuff, but my armies balloon and balloon quickly. About a year ago I found a box of eldar that I had painted up years earlier: a wave serpent and 30 2nd ed Dire Avengers, plus Eldrad. Currently I own ~7000pts of eldar with very little end in sight.
I buy most stuff used, and I tend to buy bigger lots and resell small lots, so my actual cash outlay is pretty small, probably a couple hundred bucks plus birthday presents this year, but I spent hours and hours sorting, stripping, packing, listing, and shipping the stuff I didn't want.
Now, my 7000pts of IG (includeing ~250 praetorians), that cost a small fortune, even buying all used.

I'm not so bad. I buy what I think I "need" for my armies and no more.
Of course, I just bought FIVE Rhinos at one shot because I want to be certain that I have 2 Nurgle, 2 Khorne, 2 Slaanesh, 2 Tzeentch & 2 undivided Rhinos. ::eye roll::
My buddy, though... he has a sickness.
We got the Eldar codex and were looking through it. I was saying how tough Eldar are, now and he -being stuck on OLD Eldar- siad just how easily they crumble in combat.
A couple months later, and a few convertasions about how good the new eldar were, how they were doing in tourneys, etc and he bought about 5000points (painted)off of ebay and/or commission painters.
I've been saying how I intend to start Orks soon because they seem fun. A month ago, he asked me if I had any orks yet. I said no, because I was waiting until I could buy everything at once.
So, he's got about 3000 points (painted) from Ebay sales on the way... and more to come.
It's a sickness, I tell you.
He got married year before last and decided that, in case his wife wanted to play, he should buy her an army... So he commissioned about 6000 points of Sisters.

I had a plan to make a couple squads of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers by modifying Steel Legion troopers with Space Marine shoulder pads (Using the pricey metal assault ones, even!) and Kasrkin backpacks (including a couple specialist packs, of course). It wasn't too bad by some stories here, but it would've been about $100 for a squad of 10, or slightly less if I bought parts for a couple squads at once and found uses for otherwise useless HW troopers.
Main reasons I haven't are the death of the old Bitz service and my general 'meh' attitude towards 40k at the moment.

I'm a cheap ass at times. I buy basic CSM and convert them into anything I need. Noise Marines, converted CSM with tyranid weapons for sonic weapons and blast masters. Aspiring Sorcerers are CSM bits (The chain skirt, demon backpack, Tz head, sword arm) and Tsons are Necron warriors. I copied that conversion from someone's I saw on Dakka. The Zerkers are plastic, bought them. I bought a box of PMs too but never again.
Getting into fantasy I'm going almost all plastic. I refuse to buy blood knights at 75$ for 5.

I used to be much more mental. I bought and started Kroot Mercs, High Elves, Inquisitor, Khador, Combine, Jovian Chronicles, etc. several years ago.
Then, I realized the folly, and started selling off and consolidating a few years ago.
And more recently, I've started expanding armies incrementally.
Today, I probably have more total stuff overall than I've ever had, but it's spread across fewer games and armies / forces.
Really, this hobby is evil. Pure Evil.

Yeesh, I am totally a nut when it comes to buying things, especially on Ebay.
For me, it's all about the dakka. If I hadn't started Space Marines, I would have started orks just to field as many guns as I possibly can get on the board.
But yeah, if I see some bundled deal on ebay It's hard for me to resist, even though I really really need to get on the ball with painting.

When I first thought about starting a SW army. It was 3 FW Vindicators and 6 FW Drop Pods (two were dreads). Including FW chapter specific doors, armor, etc. The whole thing was stupidly expensive. I never got around to collecting it. But I'm tempted to try again with the new marine release.

There was the time I was doing a FW order and bought a Macharius as an impulse buy.
Super-Heavies should never be impulse buys...
Actually, for proof of just how insane I (and my group is), think back to when Battlewagon Bitz was still Battlewagon Bitz and not TheWarstore w/200% Markup.
They were selling Leman Russ kits for less than half the price of a normal kit (compared to Australian prices). I knew I needed a couple to finish off my second Armoured Company, but realised that I would end up with just over 20 Russes. Me, being me, thought that having some random 'extra' Russes just wouldn't do, so rather than ordering 8, I ordered 15, so I'd have exactly 30 by the end.

Not even remotely mental judging by these posts.
While i may have dropped around $8k on this hobby over the years, that is around 25 years' worth, and I haven't paid full retail in over 10 years.
I did splurge and buy a FW Valkyrie once (but after RM, ACS and Auspost got through with it, it was not only a mishapen, unlovely pile of FW miscast goodness, it was also a broken pile of miscast, lumpen and unlovely FW goodness) - but after several weeks of repairs and rebuilding, it got to the primecoat stage and was then sold off for 60% of what I'd paid for it (truth be told, I probably would've paid someone to take it off my hands).
I don't "impulse buy". I see things I would like, then wait a week or so. FW is simply a matter of "do I like it" and "enough to pay the GNP of costa Rica for it?" or can I build a close enough myself?

HBMC: dude, it's your money, spend it as you like, but I'm surprised you haven't taken some of that cash and put it toward having a pro paint your army, especially since I know you don't enjoy painting very much. The only time I splurge is when the FLGS is having a stupid sale (which they do pretty often). So when the Warmachine stuff is 40% off, I'm walking off with a new army (essentially). They did that to me twice this year: once I ended up with Durgen, 2 drillers, 2 blasters and 2 gunners, plus a bunch of misc. stuff. (mostly skorne, I think) The other time I ended up with 4 IF Uhlans, a box of Steelheads, a wroughthammer rockram... I can always justify it as a deal, but would I have spent the money otherwise? Sigh... Edit: It's still cheaper than owning a boat. Trust me
