Just read about this on Bell of Lost Souls. I apologise if this has already been reported, but I couldn't see a relevant thread.
Apparently, at the 40k Seminar (glad those are back. One of my favourite Games Day distractions those) Jervis confirmed they will be doing one for each Legion.
However, the debate seems to be whether or not these will be for the 4 big Legions (Emperors Children, Thousand Sons, World Eaters and Death Guard), or for all *9*.
Personally, I reckon it will be just the big 4, with Codex Chaos Space Marines, like the vanilla Codex, covering the less divergent Legions within itself.
This also makes me wonder how long the current C:CSM is going to last before it is replaced. Given it's rather lukewarm reception, and the Loyalist Marines getting perks depending on who leads it, I can see this being feasible. Certainly, it wouldn't really require much in the way of new models, with the range being pretty much complete (barring a few resculpts) so you never know.
Discuss!

The big four will most likely each get their own book, not all nine. All we know the remaining five can be panned into the current codex or will be thrown into some sort of traitor marine codex that deals with the buggers who survived the heresy.

This is pretty cool. EC armies were really hit hard by new codex. All I lost were my blastmaster havocs, but I stocked up on sonic blasters and blastmasters bitz with the intention of making terminators and bikers decked out with sonic weaponry. Looks like I have some conversions in my near future.

Does make you wonder what goodies they'll be getting.
I mean, they tend to diverge from the other Legions quite significantly, enjoying as they do endorsement from one of the big 4....Fingers crossed for Thousand Son Havocs..mmmm....Havocs.

ONE book GW. ONE BOOK. Don't make the same f'ing mistake you made with the Loyalist marines by spreading them out all over the place. ONE BOOK. You then update them all with ONE BOOK. All the rules can then be found in ONE BOOK. What, you can't make $20x4 then? Make it thick as hell, lots of stuff in it, charge $35 for it. People that don't even play Chaos will buy it then (like me). ONE BOOK.
One book to rule them all...

One Book... They can cover the big 4 in detail and then do the remaining 5 pretty easily with a special character for each, then One Book for Lost and Damned including recent renegades and cultists.

This also makes me wonder how long the current C:CSM is going to last before it is replaced. Given it's rather lukewarm reception,
Here's how I see the timeline going:
- GW confirms in 2009 that they plan to do all 9 Legions!
- GW does 2 Legions in the first 3 years: World Eaters, then Death Guard.
- 2 years later, we'll get Emperor's Children.
- The main CSM Codex is now up for revision, so the other MoCU Legions get enhanced treatment in the basic CSM book, similar to how Salamanders, Raven Guard get token notice in C: SM. This fills the space left by pulling the Marked Legions. Ksons will lament because they don't exist at all, except as Rubric Marines and Generic Daemons.
- 3-4 years after that, Chaos' gingey stepchild (kSons) finally gets theirs purely for completeness' sake... It is as lackluster as one can imagine - like Space Woofs before them.
Lormax wrote:ONE book GW.

One book would need to be a *LOT* more than $35 because it would replace *SIX* $20+books:
- CSM
- Daemons
- MoK
- MoN
- MoS
- MoT
Given the choice between 6 releases (1 per year) and $150 in revenue vs 1 release, it's pretty obvious what GW will do.
Nice try, though.

9 separate books would take, at least, 8 years given the the current codex release rate. We'd be in edition 6.5 by then.

I thought he wanted the Legions to make up one book, not all Chaos permutations. I can see the Legions being a book separate from Renegades and Daemons, but not all three in one book.
Either way I look forward to it if it is true. May finally go back to WE or maybe jump ship for EC.

yeah,
Maybe:
All four books will be made and released in the same month...
Or one every month ... a summer of chaos? or something
they could even do something like codex craftworld... you'll need C: CSM C: Daemons and maybe even C: SM to sell some of those new model too...LR varients and drop pods etc...
All these options will be more than welcomed by me!!!

I bet it'll be for the big four, or more accurately those Legions/chapters that have given themselves completely to one of the Ruinous Powers. IMO, two books would make some sense...kinda seems like too many marine books if you do four (yeah, I know who we're talking about here, but still), and one might not enough to do each of the big four justice. You could have "blood and guts" in one and "chains and change" in the other.
Then again, my design approach wouldn't have been to start with a generic CSM-only book followed by a dedicated book to daemons. *shrug* I suppose it's highly likely that the current approach was dictated by the business folks and not the design team. So if you can get into a GW business person's cranium and mindset, you'll probably have the answer as to what form these will take...

Summer of Chaos sounds good....
All depends on how much variety they add in.
I would like to make a prediction right now of God Specific Defilers. Thus a Khornate one would be sickening in Combat, Nurgle much harder to destroy than normal, Tzeentch...erm....feathered, I'd expect, and a really kinky Slaaneshi one?

Honestly it sounds like a pretty decent marketing strategy for GW to release 4 books if you think about it, alot of people put away their cultist armies so they could buy new models now all of those models sitting on shelves will be put to use, personally I had slaanesh and nurgle that i never use anymore, plus the demons if they add them which Im sure they will, just not enough variety w/o them.
Also you have the requisite new units and new models, god specific bikers/termies/lords and what not, I think they will do 4 dexes, or as another poster said at least 2, plus a undivided legion codex maybe.
And honestly if they release them all at the same time or thereabouts it wouldnt be too bad, DE/Necrons/IG are getting done next year supposedly and after that who really needs it, nids maybe, there are no more SM codexes coming out after SW(I hope), so that basically leaves us with Inquisition, and.... what else. Tau maybe.
I think if they release 2 it would be good, they could do 10 new models, dont really need new troops or demons, but a lord, SC, Fast and Heavy or 2 and an elite. That makes for a total of 10-12 new releases 4 of which are chars about on par with the new armies coming out I think.
I think its a good idea that will get the chaos back in chaos.

another option
release the codexs in White Dwarf... like C: BA
This I think this would be a bad option IMO... less cool new Art / Fluff etc... probabily too short, no real new options, even less new models...
just a Cut down version of C: CSM with your GODs deamons and tweaked points values...

Neither fits with thier business plan of 2-3 codexes per year. If they go with separate codex's per legion expect GW to follow the SM divergent chapter fomatt (1/year) . Personally, I think this adds too much for them to update in a timely manner...they are having problems as it is. They still have SW , DE, IG, Necrons, DH, and WH (all having 3rd edition codices) to fit into the schedule and BA need thier own codex rather than a WD article. A single book highlighting CM alligned exclusively to the 4 powers , similar to C: Deamons, seams more feasible.

I think publishing more CSM codexes is a bad idea. GW doesn't want us to use our old models on the shelf. They want us to buy NEW models. I just don't see a batch of new CSM coming out. It would be perfect, however, released in a "make White Dwarf relevant again" campaign.
Seriously, other armies need love more than Chaos. Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard, Necrons, and more loyalist marines!
