For me it really depends on, what game is being played. For example, if it´s straight up 40K, we play by the BGB, but Necromunda has a life of it´s own in my gaming group, and has been modified to suit our needs.

It really really depends on the system.

I use house rules, where some rules need clarification and no clarification has yet been provided.

We mostly play to the rules but do have some house rules, pretty much just to speed the game up a bit.

Very Few house rules, normally to acheive a specific campaign objective (ie having an ohject on the table that has a 1-6 chance for a random effect every turn).

LOL I put down I don't play... I haven't touched a game of 40k in months though I'm still modeling.... even when I was playing I'm not sure what was going on at my LGS... I think we mostly followed official stuff with some FAQ and campaign stuff thrown in... but it seemed there was plenty of modifications going on too.

Other -
My use of house/proposed rules varies based on the situation.
Quick set-up games generally adhere to the basic rules as far as possible.
Campaigns often have many specific rules thrown in that alter the game drastically. Sometimes, further changes are implemented by mutual consent during the campaign as needed.
If we see something we like, we will try out variant rules from magazines, forums, blogs, etc.

The folks I play against have subconsciously drifted slowly away from the RAW in many very obvious ways. Nothing planned, just common sense forcing its way into the game and taking over, as it should when needed.

We play by official rules except in situations where something seems particularly broken and/or ridiculous. But mostly we just play via friendly sportsmanship. a perfect example is that I regularly play Nobz, but the majority of them have the same wargear because I think the whole wound allocation thing is a load of

I said "yes - Specific House Rules," but those are just to cover certain instances in the game that we feel is overlooked. The house rules we use are very identifiable, and should be a no-brainer to any 40K/Fantasy/whatever player.

My game group is a bunch of ex-GW employees, so we're pretty big fan of 'rules-as-is'.

Certain games are just so broken that we will somtimes use house rules. An example would be Full Thrust where we have done a bit of weapon rebalancing because newer fleets weapons and systems totally eclipse older models...

Often.
For example, my floor is messy. I can't find my dice if they're on the floor. hence, if you roll a dice in almost any circumstance, and it lands on the floor, it must be a one. My floor is magic. It's a one. No questions asked. Of course, when taking leadershp tests if it falls off the table then your unit, also, must fall off the table. It is surely a sign of the dice gods that the unit was destined to run away. The unit is removed from play.

While happy to say a die off the table is a "1" or reroll , to take a unit off would explain if I was gaming against you , Id be in jail for assault. Is that an over reaction ? perhaps. Boy it would feel good tho to appease the blood god

Hahaha, it's house rules, and if you saw my basement floor you would be right there with me. Of course, I could always say that you have to retrieve the die, but we want to finish the game, right?

It really helps to keep my neighbour (who is eleven I think?) from cheating. He's the kind of guy to roll a die behind some terrain so if it misses, he can change it before you can look.

I think too that the allocation rule is full of and should be removed completely from the game (though I rarely allocate due to low dying rate of my troops).

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

In my house we use the fluid 40k rules for the Necrons.
Under the fluid ruleset: Necrons are stubborn and C'tan have eternal warrior. Phase out is also bye bye.

I don't play necrons, but I have a few friends that do... and it's no fun to play against an army that gets phased out in turn 2-3!!!

Wait... Do you regularly have the neighbors 11yr old in your basement?

I use some house rules and would use proposed rules. If some one were to come with a character they made from dakkadakka, I would probably allow it's use in a game (as long as the character is balanced both power and points wise).

House rules make the game more fun! I make all of our club's terrain, so I've made a couple of cars I bought at Wal-Mart
into wrecks that still have some gasoline...
Cars: AV 11; d6" blast.
anything on it is blown off d6" in a direction determined by the scatter dice.
We want to put in air strikes, buildings blowing up, etc, but we're still working on it.

Only one house rule comes to mind, but i'm sure there are at least a few others. We play that ruins without bases count as having bases, because that's the way they were playing before they read the rules for ruins, which can be irritating when more than 60% of every table's cover is ruins. It makes things less clear cut.

We're trying to get the locals to learn the 5th Ed rules. It's hard enough fighting people on what counts as KPs and True LOS without adding in house rules.

The closest thing to a house rule we have is that if you want to roll a dice (cocked, off the table, ect...) you must ask your opponent. Not a problem 99% of the time, but that 1% of the time makes a big difference.
