The eldar win the roll to place three objectives, and then win the roll to pick turn/side and decide to go first.

Tactical assessment
The ork commander likes his chances. Sure, dawn of war takes the lootas out for a turn, but it also makes the t1 shooting of the eldar less effective. The ork commander is also confident he can hold more objectives, and going after the eldar will make it hard for the space elves to turbo-boost hover tanks and the like to contest objectives on T5, T6.

A photograph of the deployments. There is an objective in the top left building (held by the grots) and an objective in the bottom right building (held by the 10 man guardian squad with an attached farseer). The other three objectives are strung across the middle of the table. Simple Jack the Deff Dredd is in the center of the table near a ruin.



Tactical dialogue:
Maurice of Nassau: Why did the Ork commander take a deff dredd? Everyone and their mother knows they suck, and this guy doesn't even have the new plastic deff dredd which at least looks awesome while sucking.
Vauban: The deff dredd has potential if used properly. The ork commander should have used the deff dredd to babysit the lootas or the grots, perhaps give the dredd a pair of big shootas to plunk at things.

The eldar place the fire dragons in reserve, and both jet bike squads. Snikrot prepares to come in from any table edge...
The Orks fail to seize and the game commences

T1
Eldar
The two fire prisms come in on the left and right flanks of the Eldar zone. The falcon with harlequins moves on next to the foot guardian squad and the farseer detaches from the guardians to board the falcon. The foot guardian squad runs back into the ruin having deployed forward initially to achieve the desired 18" push-back on that flank.

The wave serpent carrying the council/seer turbo-boosts 24" straight up the eldar right flank towards the ruin containing the gretchin and an objective.

The shooting phase is inconsequential due to night-fighting. The seer council wave serpent uses its star engines to move closer to the grots.


Orks
Decision time. The ork commanders decides to send 1 battlewagon and the two deff koptas to deal with the seer council threatening the grots and the ork left flank. The wagon charges on to the table but the eldar player has judged correctly and kept the wave serpent out of deff rolla range. The boyz get out of the wagon (Maurice of Nassau: Why?!?!). The other two wagons move on to the ork right. They are heading straight for the ruin with the guardian squad. If all goes well they'll assault turn 3.



The lootas come on to the center left and center right of the ork zone. One loota squad will have cover from the grots, the other from a ruin.



Shooting sees the koptas whiff on the council's wave serpent, but in the assault phase the boyz explode it (Vauban: perhaps the ork commander knew the koptas were going to whiff!). The council falls into a crater but is not pinned.


T2
ELDAR
Only 1 bike squad comes in from reserve. It comes on to support the seer council. The shooting phase sees the fire prisms open up on the lootas. The first prism kills 4 lootas. Satisfied that this squad will be facing a LD check, the eldar use the second prism to target the other loota squad, but only 1 loota dies. Shooting from the council and the jet bike squad kills all the orks except for the nob, who is wounded. Meanwhile, in the center of the table a wave serpent and guardians shoot simple jack the deff dredd but fail to penetrate. The loota squad and the nob pass their LD checks.

ORKS
Snikrot does not arrive. The ork turn begins with a deff rolla attack against the seer council. Two of the svelte warriors are killed to death. Simple Jack the deff dredd moves towards the fire prism by the guard foot squad.


The big mek's wagon moves through a ruin but immobilizes itself, it then fails its reroll! (Vauban: any turn a battlewagon is denied movement is a bad turn for orks). The two koptas move to engage the fire prism on the ork left flank. The nob lone survivor of the seer council attack runs into the ruin containing the grots.

Both koptas shoot at the fire prism but the holofield protects it and the only result is 'stunned.' Both koptas are just out of assault range.
photo: a stunned fire prism--threat eliminated for a turn? The big mek bangs on his battlewagon and manages to repair it! The other battlewagon has moved a bit but stayed within range of the kff. The big shootas on both wagons fire at the foot guardian squad and kill one space elf.


T3
ELDAR
The fire dragons fail to arrive from reserve, but the remaining bike squad does come on. They skulk out of los near the foot guardians. The harlequins and farseer disembark from the falcon and prepare to kill the deff dredd (Vauban: the deff dredd was presented as bait it seems. We'll see if the ork commander can attack the potentially vulnerable harlequins). The foot guardan squad climbs to the top of the ruin.

The stunned fire prism now performs a triple tank shock. TRIPLE. It tank shocks a deff kopta, the grots, and a unit of lootas. All three ork units pass their LD checks! The seer council moves to assault the battlewagon.

In the shooting phase the farseer and harlequins explode simple jack the deff dredd (Maurice of Nassau: thus ends a waste of 100 points). The foot guardian squad kills a loota with its laser, while the pulse laser from the falcon kills a deff kopta.

In the assault phase the seer council multi-charges a battlewagon and the remaining deff kopta. They miss the wagon, but kill the kopta with ease.


ORKS
No snikrot. The battlewagon on the ork left attempts a tank shock against the council and a ram against a fire prism. Two more seers die from the deff rolla but the fire prism easily dodges the battlewagon's ram.

The big mek's wagon moves off and immobilizes itself again. It fails its reroll AGAIN. The other battlewagon tank shocks the harlequins and kill only 1. The boyz stay in the wagon (Maurice of Nassau: hmmm..tough call, the ork commander can kill four harlequins but his squad would then be shot at by guardians, 2 jetbike guardians, and at least 1 prism).

In the shooting phase both loota squads fire at the fire prism in the ork lines. Both squads fail to do anything to it except stun it. The big mek repairs his wagon again!

In the assault phase the nob near the harlequin/falcon boarding plank attacks the falcon and stuns it (damn holofields!!).

T4
ELDAR
The fire dragons do not arrive. The four strong guardian jetbike squad attempts to leave a ruin. A rider dies from a DT test and then the squad fails its LD check but manages to stay on the table at least. The stunned fire prism tank shocks a squad of lootas and this time the orks flee. The harlequins get back into the falcon and it moves away from the battllewagon.
In the shooting phase the other fire dragon kills three lootas from the remaining loota squad, and the foot guardian shooting tallies two more lootas. The council manages to immobilize the battlewagon that had been harassing them. The two remaining lootas pass their LD check.
In the assault phase the council explodes the immobilized battlewagon. One of the seers dies in the explosion.

ORKS
Snikrot arrives. He moves into the ruin in the eldar zone. In the vicinity are: a fire prism, the fleeing jetbike squad, the footguardian squad (on the top two floors of a ruin) and an objective to potentially contest. The big mek's battlewagon moves off without breaking down as does the other battle wagon. The other battlewagon attempts to ram the harlequin falcon but the skimmer dodges it easily. In the shooting phase the grots kill a seer. One seer and the farseer remain.

In the assault phase snikrot and his kommandos explode a fire prism and kill the fleeing jetbikes. They consolidate towards the foot guardian squad.

T5
ELDAR
The fire dragons arrive. Their serpent backs into a ruin and the dragon get out on the other side of the ruin.

The falcon tries to move off but is held fast by a grabbin klaw:


The harlequins disembark and prepare to attack. The farseer moves towards the gretchin and the remaining fire prism tank shocks the grots, who pass their ld, and contests the objective held by the grots.
The remaining guardian jetbikes conga-line two objectives:



In the shooting phase farseer on the eldar left leaves the harlequins and moves to attack snikrot's squad. Miserable shooting from the guardian foot squad and the farseer result in only two dead kommandos and a wound on snikrot. They pass their LD check. The fire dragons explode a battlewagon. The boyz passengers take six casualties--ouch! The harlequins then fleet to get into assault range. On the ork left the remaining seer leaves the farseer and attempts to get into assault range of the lone, wounded ork nob. Poor DT rollings keeps the seer out of assault range.

The harlequins assault the ork boyz:

Five or so orks remain and one harlequin. The orks have lost combat by 4 and need to roll a 3 to stay in the fight. They fail the first roll, but after a bosspole is applied, the orks roll a 3--they stay stuck in.

ORKS
The last remaining battlewagon disgorges its cargo of boyz onto an objective in the center of the table. The big mek remains in the wagon and the wagon then moves directly toward one of the objectives held by the conga-lining jetbikes. The big mek gets out of the wagon. The gretchin move around to give the lone, wounded nob a clear assault path to the fire dragon contesting their objective. Snikrot and his boyz move deeper into the ruin.

In the shooting phase the orks waagh finally. The big mek rolls a '6' and is easily able to contest one objective near the guardian jetbikes. Snikrot and his boyz open up on the guardian foot squad and roast all but two of the foot guardians. In the assault phase the lone nob fails to damage the fire prism, and the large mob of boyz fails to harm the falcon (damn holofields!!).

The game ends with each side holding one objective. A bloodbath of a draw.

tactical reflections:
Well dawn of war + losing two turns of movement on the big mek's wagon scotched the orks plans. When the eldar moved the council up to engage the ork left flank on turn 1 the ork commander could have brought everything to bear on that flank--powell doctrine if you will.

How can boyz explode a wave serpent? Even when charging , the best boyz can do is glance it so many times it is wrecked- If you will, please enlighten me on this matter.

In the photo where the Fire Dragons get out of the Wave Serpent - is the Serpent actually in the building, where it can't be seen? The visible Serpent looks to be about 12" away.

Very nice report, loved the Eldar commentary lol. Something that bugged me, you refer to Fire Dragons contesting the Grot's objective, I believe that was a Fire Prism, also it tank shocks after being stunned twice, unless you mean shaken I'm not sure how that worked.
