hello, I'd just like to start out with my name. Its, Joel.
ive been thinking long and hard about a new hobby to get into that will consume alot of time and what better hobby then to paint and play games with as well. some im thinking of starting a blood angles army been thinking pretty hard on the subject. but since i know nothing of warhammer and did an impulse buy i was unable to play i thought a cetain figure was a HQ but i guess he wasnt. long story short this is what i bought

3x death company(15 minis)
1x tactical squard(10 minis)
1x lemartes (i thought he was HQ)
1x commander
1x baal preditor
1x devastator squad.

now i was told to go with astorath with him your able to use more death co squads some helpful info would be nice aside from reading in the codex thanks for the help in advance.

-Joel.

Welcome to Dakka Joel. Not too bad of a start for a BA army, but you are going to have to invest in another tactical squad. Make sure you keep a chaplain on those death company models to keep them on task. Besides that, you have some decent fire power from your heavy support slots. Next move should be to buy a tactical squad and maybe some rhinos/ land raider

Welcom! Welcome! well first do you have a codex?? you need one..

a Land raider.. yes .. but.. if you're looking for a fast attack army.. then you don't need a land raider.. dreads are ok but use droppods for them.. if they walk acros the batlefield to the enemy they are dead before they are within reah of an assault.. besides droppods can't mishab so you wil never lose a dread because of that. and there is nothing more anoying when you set up a good fire line and than bang bang two dread in your back..

definetly invest in some special characters like mephiston or brother corbulo corbulo is the cheapest HQ f Blood angels i think.. IF you want a chaplain then use him in terminator armour in a termie sq or with a jump pack in a assault sq.. not just on foot.. He "has liturgies of battle" SR so he can re-roll failed to hits and has a 4+ inv save.. don't put him in a tactical squad.. put him in a CC squad..

Next up are rhino's your tactical squad ned rihnos if you want a strong list.. most times speed is the key to victory.. Dedicated means that your rhinl counts as the same unit's inside.. ex: Tactcal sqaud w dedicated rhino = rihno counts as troops with sterngaurd inside them they count as elites.. but the good thing is they don't take another slot in your force organisation chart.. so field 1 HQ and 2 Troops = 1 captain and a tactical squad inside a rhino (as rihno counts as troops)

Blood angels are masters of CC so assault squads are welcome..

If you dont add some members to youre dev sq then i should put them in a razro back w Lascannons that gives an extra lascannon to your squad and they can change positions very quickley if this is demanded.. But i use my devestators with more then the stadard 5 man sq bucause if your opponent shoots at you you will need to remove HW immedietly.. so build your devesator squads up to a 7 or even 10 man squad..

Make an army list and than we can give more specific advise if you want.. i can stay here and tell for hours about different kinds of marines armies.. and I am not a real blood angels expert so..
Post a list and w'll see..

The above statements are a pretty good idea on the basics of a marine army, BA included. Don't forget, with death company models, keep a chaplain close by so that they stay focused. Also, Land Raiders are more for when you have terminators that need moving. (Those are more units you ought to consider investing in!) Now, something I've seen with quite a few BA players is to take assault squads and max them out point-wise, and then proceed to deep-strike them. (Remember, assault squads are troops in a BA army)They then go supported by assault terminators w/ lightning claws & Thunderhammers. The big key with this type of army is deepstrike most of your forces as close to the enemy and then proceed to assault them to death, which is what the BA are good at. The HQ choice for this type of army is a Librarian in Termie armour. I can tell you personally that I find this type of army frightening/frustrating as the opponent who has to deal with this mess.

explain me that chaplain thing.. i thought he was only good for CC re-rolls..

if you make a 10 man assault squad w 2 flamers.. and they deepsrtike a mishap.. that's almost 200 pts lost.. but i don't know the blood angels codex thi wisdom comes from reg SM codex as i play ultramarines sons of guilliam

Yeah, it would be nice to have lemartes as an HQ choice, since seemingly the BA's hardly have any choices under 200pts! Although, I really wouldnt want to be led into battle by someone who has sucumbed to black rage anyway Welcome to the Dak! -- I think you should invest in Astorath so you can break your DC into separate units.

The Chaplain prevents death company models from charging into combat with the nearest enemy. Thus, you have more control over how you wish to use them
