Hello everyone I am pretty new to 40k or any mini game. I have been reading the forums for awhile now to get an idea of things. Had a question for the masses, What do you think is a good starter army for someone new to war-gaming? Right now I have been leaning toward SW. Some of my other choices were DE, Demons, or Necron *even though they are gimped by an old Codex*. But really open to any ideas, explanations on why they would be good for a new player would be great, v.s. just your personal favorites. Right now cash to get started isn't a big deal so not worried about troop/vehicle costs so much. The only thing is I can't start very small. I am building a force to play at 1250, 1500, 1850, 2000, and 2500 point levels mainly 1850+ as that's what everyone plays in the area. Thanks all for putting up with another noob in the community

Cool, SWs are always fun to paint. Any plans on paint scheme, or is it traditional?

Welcome!

Hello and welcome! Space Marines are a great starter army but everyone plays them. I just started Space Wolves and so far they have been pretty cool. But truthfully, go with your gut feeling. As long as you like the look and feel of an army, you can find a way to make them work.

Welcome to Dakka. Play what you think has the coolest looking models and story. After all you have to paint and look at them everytime you play so you might as well pick something you think looks cool/interesting.

Welcome, so what drew you to 40K? There are lots of mini games out there what made this one stand out for you?

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

Thanks for the responses everyone.

@ A Black Ram - If I chose wolves *which is about a 95% chance* I am going to go semi traditional but with more golds and dark reds with a dark feel to it like the cover of the newer codex. I will have a little trouble with it my paint skills are geared more toward organics like demons or tyranid type models so humans and mech will be a challenge.

@ Dalsiandon - In this area they do play a lot of differant mini games, but I have known krak_kirby well for many years and he is big into 40k and think some of his enthusiasm finally rubbed off enough to give it a try.
