Hi guys im David 25 from middlesbrough, i have two lovely kids and a smashing girlfriend, now that you've read the boring bit..... here is my brief history of tabletop gaming lol. i was first introduced to this hobby as a kid in my 3rd year at junior school. back then i collected space wolves, i painted them to a shoddy standard and never ever learned how to play. only just recently (before christmas) i decided i wanted to paint some again, i bought the starter set with 5 marines( ahhh memories). only just several days after i bought black reach!! so at this point in time im still learning the game and ive bought a few extra paints and models. so to save me starting a boring thread off here are my first quesiton/s lol

I painted my first marine squad to a...i would say fairly decent standard and coated them with citadel gloss varnish(bad idea) they look way too shiny. can i go over with the satin spray or a cheaper alternative?

Hi mixindave, its good to see more North-east England players, im about 45 mins from middlebrough and do nip to the GW there every now and again so when your ready to start playin abit and learnin the ropes i may be able to pop over to help and give you a friendly game.

As for your gloss varnish problem you could use varnish remover but this could well damage your paint job, i'd suggest you just varnish sumthin you dont need (doesnt have to be a model) and then coat it after its dried with the satin/alternative to see what effect you get, alternatively you can just make a thread for it in the Painting and Modelling part and im sure someone may have an answer for you, as no doubt its been done before.

Spraying over the gloss with any matt varnish will make it 90% better, probably worth a go before you try to strip it off and risk ruining the paintjob.

just a tip on the spray, if you spray the models to close then the models look dusty
