first, Welcome to dakka! second: like almost every forum on the net, get rank by posting, you can change cateory on your profile page, but the actual text depends on how many posts you have

jordanis got it in one. It goes up when your post count gets to certain milestones (100, 500, 1000 ect). Or of course become a DCM, Mod or Admin
