Hey everybody,

As the title states I am new to dakka and in need of chaos space marine advice.
But before all that jazz, I wanted to introduce myself a bit.

My name is Rich, but most people call me "OG Sandwich" because of my cooking skills - specially sandwiches nom nom nom.
I'm a full time student - working 2 jobs, so when I do get free time I like to fully invest myself in it. Hence the coming back to the hobby, a little quiet time to get away from the world.
I recently got back into Warhammer 40K from a 4(ish) year gap. Started out as Imperial Guard and dipped my toe in the water of Space Wolves.

So now, I'm looking to start a Chaos Space Marines Army. I got an old codex from a friend and am in love with Khorne. Blood for the blood god! Love the up close in your face feel of them. When I played Guard it was more "Bombard, Bombard, Bombard." It was nice seeing an Earthshaker round demolish a horde of Orks, but I always got destroyed by quicker armies.

So I'm in need of advice on the do's and don'ts of Chaos Space Marines as a whole.
Also seeking some tactics for World Eaters - Khorne.
Maybe a mock army list - a starting one so 1000 to 1500 points.

Welcome! I do not no all too much about Khorne Berzerkers, I do no that Plague Marines are some of the greatest units in the codex.

as for your army question. well i joined this site yesterday and i would like to share any adivice (i also just started chaos) i have aquired over that time and over the last 3-4 years of the hobby. start from the ground up. so if you want a fun berzerker army i would use Kharn the betrayer, he's really kool. he kills for the blood god but he doesnt care which side dies so that can be very fun to play. Then for the troops maybe 2-3 khorne berzerker squads with a rhino each to help keep them alive abit longer. the addition of a defiler and a deamon prince is all i can suggest which i know would play well. the rest would be entirely up to you and your playing style. you may want to add some standard marines just to shoot abit so atleast you can cause some damage at range before your zerkers get in close enough.

meh. Kharne. Everyone uses Kharne. He's boring.

Khorne DP with Wings. 2 Units of 10 Berzerkers in Rhinos. 2 Lascannon Predators. Unit of Champion Terminators with Lightning Claws and Mark of Khorne.

Surely if everyone is playing Kharn that means he a good choice?
maybe swapping for 1 preditor for a land raider or a defiler

Nurgle equals awesome. My buddy has a Nurgle list, and it's pretty good. Some of the really awesome pieces are ForgeWorld... Which means you can't use them in Tournaments, which sucks.

No, it just means that Kharne is like Eldrad, he can take part in every battle in the galaxy that has ever happened, at once.

Special characters should have stayed "permission only".

Zoom a whole load of beserkers up in rhinos, with a defiler or two hanging back.

first of all, make sure you like to paint them! buy a cheap unit that you would most likely use in your finished army, but also you really like (so just incase you don't like painting them, you can always keep them on display.). it sucks really hard to like the models and like the amry and then buy a bunch of dudes, only to find out you hate painting them. i know, trust me. (i will never do khorne because aside from small wires and blood splaters, i hate painting in red!)

before i started my guard, i wasn't orginally going to start an army, i just really wanted a squad of kasrkin!! (best freaking models IMO ). if you don't feel like forkin' out the money for a unit of guys just yet, buy a hero or something small (in price and size), yet cool.

once you havce established you definitley feel like doing this army (by the looks of it, your heart is pretty set on it!) browse through the Army lists section of the forums and find a nice base list. I have just finished perfecting my list after at least 6 weeks of trial and error: take away this, post in the forum, person says do this, do that then post in the forum, add this, post in the forum. IMO this has whittled away an exceptionally bad list found in white dwarf, to an elite precision strike team with a distraction (masses of bodies running across the field), elites (deep striking teams of stormies with plasmas and meltas, along with three veteran teams in vendettas) and a whole lot of other stuff product of many hours of reading a codex of information and contsantly switching between word and dakka.

i have just purchased a battleforce, and my my, has it made a difference to the ranks! it massively adds bulk to your army and gives you a giant discount from if you bought the box sets individually! i suggest this is the third step you take. (just make sure everything in the battleforec relates to your now awesome army list.)

p.s, i tried asking for a base army list, and i never got one. IMO just find one you like and post it, say exactly the direction you want to go with it (deep striking army anyone? although it does have it's drawbacks - namely Deep Strike Mishaps) and then all you need to do is follow peoples directions! also, make a few veteran friends as they can provide help with the list from years of experience.

Kharn is aways a good start, if you're foing for a mono-god list then you don't have much choice other than 'Zerkers in Rhino's and summoned daemons.

So is Nurgle just while is mono god, you can pretty much have anything you want?

No, If you're sticking to just one god then each of the four is equally limited, they are just limited to a different troop choice each. Plague Marines (Nurgle) are generally seen as beeing the best troop choice though.

To make it fluffy you just need everything to have the mark of whatever god you choose and their particular troops (Bezerkers = Khorne, 1k sons = tzeentch, Plague Marines = Nurgle, Noise Marines = Slaanesh). Or just play Chaos Undivided and use no mark's.

If I go Chaos Undivided - the troops choices such as Khorne Berzerkers and 1K Sons can be used with a mark, but they become Elite choices opposed to normal troop choices in a Mono Mark army.

Gorechild - seeing you have both a Khorne and Chaos Undivided army. Which of the two do you find more fun to play?

I'm not all about wins and losses and such. I play for fun and if I win so be it. I do like having the advantage over my opponent, rather something my army does better than his/her.

Any chance of hearing your army list for Undivided and Khorne?
