hi I been playing a few years, mainly using modded rules with my wife.

My first game involved me getting my butt kicked on the battle of macragge starter set.

And most recent loss was 30 space marines using bolters against a group of what ended up as hundreds of orks.

(by turn 20 I was sure I had lost, the rules stated unless the space marines took out a good amount of orks each turn the orks will get more reinforcements due to them being attracted to a mighty leader - my wife- , I had pointed out she could have the victory and that most games last far shorter, she decided we carry on playing for another 3 or 4 more painful hours as each turn I got an extra wound and one less space marine it was a slow and painful game.
The added rule was if the orks also did not get a beating then they get to advance an inch across the chasm to the city the space marines were protecting, there combined firepower though got to me and she did make sure that bridge took ever so long to build just to really drive it in that I lost.

I like space marines and Imperial Guard, my wife likes Tyranids and eldar and orks and anything else that can be used to batter my armies.
