I became a fan of Warhammer 40k after playing the first Dawn of War. I've been reading the Horus Heresy book series and decided to take the plunge and play the game. I've watched a few games at a local hobby shop that has a 40k group there once a week.

I'm drawn to the big armored superhuman types of the Adeptus Astartes, but more toward the doomed chaos legions. I can't help but to feel for legions like the Word Bearers or the Thousand Sons, who built great things and had some empathy for the humans they had to bring under compliance during the crusade. Not so much for guys like Erebus, who purposely engineered much of the heresy, but for the doomed marines who had to make a choice they didn't understand or hated.

So, I want to build some traitor marines, but want to leave out as much of the demonic side as possible. This means staying away from Demon Princes, summoned demons, possesed, chosen, obliterators, or plague marines. I want my renegades to hate what they have become, but hate the Emperor because they feel he lied to his sons and forced them into the position that they are now in. They are waging a war of revenge.

I imagine building a little warband led by a sorceror who uses his powers of divination to determine where and when to strike at the Imperium.

Anyway, I'm running on. Glad to be a part of dakka now, and I'll post more as I get some models.
