Hey guys just want to say hey.

I recently started with necrons in warhammer and am looking forward to playing my first game. One of my really good friends got me involved. If anyone has any pointers on painting or a basic tutorial on techniques i would appreciate it as i feel that is my weakest point. As soon as i get my first model painted ill get some pics up. Thanks.

P.S. I am looking forward to the new necron update, but i hope it doesn't change the feel of a soulless undead robot army bent on destroying all life in the universe because that is the whole reason i decided to play necron. A vehicle or more complicated model is that im looking for really.

Hey Welcome to Dakka!

Hmmm Necron painting tips...There aren't any really, there the easiest army to paint.
But here goes I'll help you paint your first model

Paint it all Chaos Black
Then cover it in several thin coats of Boltgun Metal
Then wash Badab Black
The highlight Mithril Silver or you could just look at this it will save you reading my un-scripted tutorial

I have noticed that everyone has said that necrons are easy to paint and im not disputing that in any way. I guess what im looking for a is ideas for a "unique" way of painting them. Im still a bit torn if i will be doing a regular basic necon theme because this will be my first painting test or if im feeling ambitions and want to do something crazy and unique.

Hello and welcome!

The meaning of victory is not merely to defeat your enemy but destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavors, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory.

Oh for the 'unique' way I'd try add in colours for example do copper armour and Deep red heads. I've seen that look very striking and impresive

Welcome! I'm pretty new to Necrons my self, but I've found painting them in a unique style works really well. I've gone with gold highlighted heads and shoulders with an ancient metal feel.

so basically I did this:
1. spray the model with chaos black
2. apply a layer of boltgun metal
3. paint heads and other features with shining gold
4. apply tin bitz highlights to chosen areas
5. wash with badab black

thats how I painted my necrons anyway. Good luck and have fun with them!

welcome necron lord!
A good tip for painting necrons (used by me)
Spray chaos black->put boltgun metal -> paint eyes and cables with goblin green than with thrakka green-> drybrush with badab black or gryphon sepia.
Done.

Welcome to Dakka! If you are looking to make your army unique, you could try the more egyptian route and make them gold and blue and stuff. And I've seen some cool necron armys that look like they are fresh out of the tomb, by making use of rusting techniques, mold, and cobwebs.
