Somewhere in the steamy jungles of the south...

Hey guys,

I've really managed to expand my painting talents over the past couple months and I'm looking for a single figure to paint. I want something challenging and unusual. Do you guys have any suggestions? I've been eyeing the Mierce Trolls, but would love to see what you guys can come up with!

Cheers!

What type of a challenge? Are we talking technique, something super detailed with lots of fiddly bits? Large blank spaces that require free hand?

Really, anything complex. I've been working with NMM, freehand, getting smooth blends on big surfaces, using weathering powders...All kinds of stuff.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

What about the Lotr elephant? In conversion work you can stick to the original haradrim theme, add some armour and have it serve the forces of Isengard or the Easterlings.

It has loads of open areas to improve your freehand on, and practice painting realistic tattoos and warpaint on the elephant. There are also loads of areas you can go super detail mode on.

Or if you're looking for something cheaper, go with camo patterns on tau. Try to make them look really futuristic and grim-dark.

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

I think this is the perfect chance to find one of those instances where "less is more." Get a simple figure, like some Yu-jing fig from Infinity and just go nuts with it. Why spend a ton of money on something big, which in the end will need a bunch of cohesion in order to not offend the eyes? Some of those infinity, or even Anima Tactics, minis are small and simple, but offer a lot of painting liberties. No sense breaking the bank if you just want to try and stretch your painting chops.

I should've added that I'm not looking for Infinity minis. I'm at the end of a huge Infinity commission, and I just finished another big Infinity job last week, so I've kinda had my fill of Infinity. I need something bigger and different.

I'm actually looking at this figure from Smog: The 13th Hour. It's got everything I'm looking for, plus it's 50mm. Only problem is that the studio paintjob is so perfect that I can't think of an original one that would look half as good.

Why not look at something from Scibor miniatures. there stuff is bigger than 28mm and really nice.

I find that the large models (tanks/titans/ect) and trying to free hand paint. Like this is my current project a harlequin army, using dark elder.

How about that as a centerpiece model? It has a nice balance between the huge dragon, and the finer detail of the rider

If you want some skin to paint to go along with NMM and weathering, and wouldn't mind something 40mm rather than 28mm... you could take a look these new 54mm sculpts from Hasslefree - NSFW!

Super sneaky stealth suit on a display piece. AKA paint it so it completely blends into the background. that sounds challenging
