Nice stuff! I'm surprised they still have Space Hulk boxes out there.
Did they ever do re-release at some point?

I'd vote then for the Terradon Turquoise, which is a good color that is strong enough to emerge even with additional layers or griming.

They're coming along nicely, with a great 'dino' vibe that I've never seen in any other color scheme.

Thanks meercat, they do have a it of a dino vibe. Looking closely I quite like some of the splatter/over spray I got from the airbrush, it adds some nice saurus textures. I agree that the Nihilakh might be lost, but it does match the tone of the orange pretty well. 1-0 to Nihilakh
tzurk wrote:I like the Nihiliakh too, seems more organic - and almost like you could play it up as some bioluminescene. Maybe a thinned down blue wash over the top might help to define the edges/recesses a bit?

Yeah, the Nihilakh does have a bit of luminescence, a blue wash could be interesting. 2-0
youwashock wrote:Going to dissent here with a vote for Terradon. I like that it is more distinct. That board came out killer, too.

Thanks, I’m well chuffed about the board, and glad others are liking it too. The terradon is definitely more noticeable. 2-1

Thanks Tommy, I too was surprised to see a BNIB set, though sadly the timer had broken at some point over the last 15 years. I’m lead to believe the 2014 4th edition was a straight reprint of the 2009 3rd edition. Maybe they’ll release a new one once Cursed City has run its course… again

Well, it’s a 2-2 draw on the Nihilakh vs Terradon decision, you lot aren’t much help! only joking, you all made valid points and reinforced what i was thinking. I did another couple of tests, one with Tesseract Glow (forgot to take pics though), and the other with a Nihilakh-Terradon mix. The mix gave the best of both worlds, standing out enough to hopefully not be obscured with the streaking grime. I got that done in the garden (watching the guinea pigs too) and had a bit of the mix left over, so figured I’d water it down and wash it over some heads and legs/arms. I don’t do them all mainly adding it to some of the duplicates and the Broodlord

The wash is a bit subtle to see in the pics but it’s a nice transition in hand.

Once the kids were in bed I did a bit more work, I tidied up all of the black areas, also blocking in the claws, tongues and head carapace as I went. Their bases got painted black again as they’ll mostly be metallic. These bits got a sponge highlight too with a couple of greys to add some texture. The skulls got a pallid wych flesh drybrush then a wash of pallid bone speed paint. I figured the skulls in the crevices of walls were the stealers stash of skulls rather than grimdark gothic decor! Next I made a start on the dead Blood Angels, doing sponge then stippling from Khorne Red, to Mephiston then Evil Sunz when I realised the time!

I had planned to follow Trovarion’s grim dark paint schemes, but got a bit carried away and left too much paint on the edges. I then just decided a rough stippled highlight then the steaming grime would give a suitable grim dark vibe so went with that. I’ll do another highlight before moving on to the details. I’m waiting on a couple of paints to finish things up, they should arrive this week and hopefully I’ll get the grime on before the kids go back to school in September.

At some point I also need to print some bases with slots for them to insert in to so they don’t wobble over so much. I could use them for kill team then

Thanks for looking!

I think I’ve managed to get the genestealers to the point that they are ready for streaming grime! That step might have to wait though as I’m unlikely to be painting again for at least another week.

The stealers themselves were pretty much done at my last update, so it was mainly base details of pipe work and dead blood angels.

Even on the Angels it was mostly details, getting a few transfers on the dead shoulder pads painting purity seals and eye lenses etc. there’s been so many it feels like I’ve painted a couple of minis extra! The pipe work got a few different metallics, mainly coppery and brassy colours. I slapped on a few rust stains and Nihilakh too.
Here’s a few closer pics of the more interestingly based minis

To differentiate some of the twins they also got different base details, like this dead Terminator is a Sergeant and his copy a regular marine

This guy is really interested in the helmet!

I think this one is pretty much a mirror image of the one stood on the sergeant, but with skulls

This one has a wired skull that still has some skin attached, nice! His twin seems to be carrying a wired ball, not sure if they changed the skull, or it was just a miscast

Got any dollar bills to give this poledancer?

Being a glutton for punishment I tried my hand at hazard stripes on some of there cables

And finally the broodlord with his pile of dead terminator skulls.

Looking at the pics I now realise that I need to add a red wash to their mouth and pic out their teeth. I’m thinking I’ll do their eyes post wash so they can glow a bit more. I’ll also do some Blood For The Blood God on some of the odd hand shapes to hide them a bit. I also bought some uhu glue to add some stringy saliva and goopy blood drips

Thanks for looking

After work tonight I had the windows open and figured I’d give the streaking grime a try on the Genestealers.

Boy is it messy!

But the results are pretty good. I’m pleased the blue green is showing up and pleasantly surprised that the orange speed paint didn’t rub off at the slightest rubbing or moisture.
Testy’s other side looks good too.

As does his twin. It also seems to give some nice variations in skin tones too. This helmet looks nice and grimdark too

Happy with the effect on the cabling and bases too

It tied the transfer in pretty well too

And the Broodlord too

Here’s all of them on my new hobby station so I can paint downstairs on a weekend and not worry about the kids causing chaos unsupervised.

To finish them off I want to brighten up their teeth, add a glow to their eyes, BFTBG their claws and teeth, plus a bit of uhu based gore

Thanks for looking

Thanks CB it’s been fun to try new things on these guys

Well, I pretty much finished these guys up on Saturday night but didn’t get any decent pics. So I opted to set up part of the Harbinger of Damnation for a photo opportunity. The teeth were dead easy to pick out and I slapped on some BFTBG. I also had a tube of uhu glue delivered so played about with that. It’s hard to spot in the main group pics, but I’m uploading some individuals of the Broodlord plus family pics of each set of twins/triplets. I got a bit carried away so that might take a while to upload them all, so here’s the group shots

As you can see, their Broodlord has high approval ratings. I guess they must’ve liked the tasty Terminator armour wrapped treats they were brought!

The thanks, I should look at darker lighting for these to look to be stalking in the shadows. Glad you like the blood and drool
As promised, here’s the first set of twins

These guys are a bit basic and probably the most similar pairing, though 1 of them is missing a claw so he got a bit of extra gore on that side.

They also have a set of closely related brothers, who I think share a mirrored torso but with different arms and head. A result of early digital sculpting I guess?

I’ll post some more pics later too

Not Online!!! wrote:Very good! But? Where's the corresponding cult?

Hmmm, start a Genestealer Cult army too you say!? probably not any time soon I’m afraid as I have too many other projects to finish off (my Necrons are getting a few reinforcements too)

How many too’s is too many too’s? Sorry Ragsta I can’t help myself.

Next up is a pair of triplets. The first set are a pair of identical twins with a mirrored stealer

I think the blood on the central one is probably the best gore I added so here’s a close up

His mirrored twin got a good slap of blood

Here’s the whole family from the left, front and right

The next set of triplets are all identical, apart from one lost a claw. These lads are very similar to the pairs I showed earlier except they brought a terminator helmet with them.

From the side

And the other side

The Nihilakh Oxide made a decent OSL on their eyes.

More to come

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Signing off for the night with a pair of skull pile twins

These two were quite cool, but the draught on their crotches is massive and hard to disguise without doing any sculpting

Will upload the next batch tomorrow

Thanks Waaazag, I’m not sure I’ve credited the originator here. It’s heavily based on @rgb.miniatures scheme he uses for his Tyranids over on instagram and YouTube.

Here’s a few more closer pics. First up I think these are mirrored twins of the skull pile stealers, but with a terminator to stand on!

Next up are two of my favourite minis in the set, the “surprise!” Genestealers

And by some happy coincidence they fit the hatches on the Harbinger of damnation board!

And showing a bit of favouritism here’s some individual pics

I really like how the grime and orange turned out on this one’s face, looks good

More still to come!

LavuranGuard wrote:Those 'stealers look absolutely ace

Thanks LavuranGuard, and welcome to my plog!

Here’s the last of the duplicate Stealers, I’ll get to some of the individuals later hopefully. This first pair became my test subjects as they got the first attempt at each stage to make sure I knew what I was doing. I didn’t, but I managed to blag it most of the way I think

They like offering up terminator helmets though.

Those two are a fun pair and this next lot are pretty cool too:

I think if hid the mould draft on their hands pretty well with lots of BFTBG and then uhu gore in front of it. These were probably the worst or maybe most visible draft marks, but the gore distracts nicely

Their dangly trophies are some of the coolest features in the set, even if one of the heads appears to be a miscast I still love it! The flesh hanging off the skull of the properly cast one is real nasty!

His prized skull is a little grimly from this angle

But nice and grim from this one.

Looking at some of the pics I should probably get my tweezers out and pull of some of the bits of cotton bud that got caught on all the spikey bits. I thought I got them all, but pictures always reveal your errors!

That’s it for the duplicates. Poledancers next then the Broodlord himself

A bit later than planned, but here are the singleton Genestealers

And Terminator POV shot as I think his fire came out particularly well

Next up is the pole dancing genestealer:

Just look at those moves!

How do they hold that pose!

Hey, where’s my money go!?

Oh yeah, I spent it all on Space Hulk!

Just the broodlord to go and I can get on with showing the Necrons I’ve nearly finished, the Blooded that I’ve started and a few pics from last weeks Kill Team game

As promised, here’s some pics of my next project. A few months back I made some low ball eBay bids and to my surprise won this little gang. They’re the old plastic rod Necrons, but I’d seen a few people use their Indomitus leftovers to convert them to the new style. I also added a bit of battle damage, though now they’re mostly painted I wish I’d added a fair bit more.

A while back I’d started them and after a prime of gun metal, they got a zenithal of Mithril silver from my airbrush:

Then I deviated from my recipe by forgetting to add some contrast medium to the John Prins mix, but the silver zenithal saved them I think.

Next I deviated again by not thinking the Black Templar either

Next came a bit of OSL starting with Sybarite agree

Then a bit of Gauss Blaster Green

I forgot to take pics of the next few steps; black on the orbs, then some ‘ardcoat on the orbs, PVA and sand on the bases, mix of brown and grey on the base (I used too dark a grey this time), grey on the sprue rubble

Whilst waiting for the bases to dry I got on with building a more optimised Roster for my Blooded Kill Team as @coleface40kand I are off to a tournament in Birmingham in a few weeks. Main missing pieces were a plasma pistol on the chieftain and a grenade launcher. Since I had a few armless bodies left from making Blooded tokens I also added a couple of lasgun guardsmen too.

As these were already built it’s been a little tricky converting them, but it’s mainly been matching the weapon to the pose and removing necks to fit in the Cadian collar. The next batch might lose the collar and keep more Blooded neck. Since building them I’ve broken my cardinal rule and started painting them before I’ve finished my Necrons. That should allow me to finish them for the tournament though. And to be fair the Necrons are only a few base touch ups away from complete so I don’t think it’s the start of a slippery slope! I’ll try to get some pics over the weekend when I’ll hopefully finish them. I’ll then pick something to come to Germany on a work trip next week.

Oh, one final thing. What do you guys reckon I should do with the Space Hulk Terminators? Go grim dark like the dead ones on the Genestealers bases or bright and shiny like they’ve just boarded to avenge their battle brothers?

Thanks for looking

Thanks muette. I expect I’ll get my ass handed to me but at least the blooded suit my kamikaze play style, so it should still be fun!

Managed to sneak a little painting time today and figured I’d make some improvements to the various Plasma toting minis I have whilst also finishing the Plasma Cannon Void Panther I did a while back. Here’s where I got to before heading out to meet a mate for lunch

I’m liking where they’re going, they certainly have more of a glow than the previous incarnations. Im certainly pleased with the OSL effect on the new Blooded Plasma weapons. The airbrush certainly does well with the glow effect, aided by the new compressor that did a better job than the old battery powered one. If anything I need to fiddle with the pressure and viscosity of the paint. The big bug bear was still tip dry, I was having to clean the tip after every mini, I’m not sure whether that was the paint, airbrush or the operator. So if anyone has any tips on how to minimise or remove tip dry then I’m all ears!
