Hi everyone,
I have been wandering on the forums here for a while but never got to create an account or participate in discussion / threads.
After about 10 years living abroad, we decided to come back to france and I decided to go back to the hobby i had left for way too long.
So here I am, I decided to go back to necromunda that I played a lot back then, and start a new gaming board for it. I'll be posting the updates here mainly to keep a trace and benefit from your advices and opinions.
Let' see how it goes!

So when i came back, I went to my mom's place and found those, from about 20-25 years ago :
[Thumb - 20200107_131207.jpg]
This was my very first terrain back in the mid 90s

[Thumb - 20200107_131404.jpg]
That was a mining complex entrance

[Thumb - 20200107_131016.jpg]
And a fortified building for 40K

So I started a new modular board.
[Thumb - 20200913_142901.jpg]
i made 9 tiles of 40*40cm each

[Thumb - 20200913_161607.jpg]
and I will be making them one by one

So for the first one, i took an old bad looking bunker i made way back and started building on top. Now looking back at it, maybe I should have just started from scratch...
[Thumb - 20200920_153535.jpg]
i just tried to create structures around the main shape

[Thumb - 20200920_153544.jpg]
and to try to create new volumes, as the base shape is very boring

[Thumb - 20200924_171751.jpg]
and added a tower on the side

I was in a dead end with this, as the general shape didnt look very interesting, mostly because I was constrained by the basic shape.
So I decided to go up.
[Thumb - 20201001_211154.jpg]
Now the structure was stretching upwards, so it was better

[Thumb - 20201002_215328.jpg]
And i added another little shack on the side

[Thumb - 20201001_214643.jpg]
and lighter structures on the sides

That was early september, then i got a 3D-Printer for my birthday, so I could pring some bits and pieces, modules etc...
Since i work in video games, i can model quickly anything i might need.
[Thumb - 20201128_203513.jpg]
and here is my first print

[Thumb - 20201128_224756.jpg]
made those classic bulkheads from the OG game

[Thumb - 20201129_213903.jpg]
and here is what I made in a couple days

[Thumb - 20201209_095045.jpg]
more bulkheads, they are so cool and cost a fortune on ebay nowadays

couple floor tiles inspired by the zone mortalis terrain and some barrels ofc

Then i ran out of filament of course, so I had to go old school on some scatter military crates.
[Thumb - 20201207_091849.jpg]
some measuring

[Thumb - 20201207_093020.jpg]
a lot of cutting

[Thumb - 20201207_101049.jpg]
and assembling

[Thumb - 20201207_102516.jpg]
and more assembling

[Thumb - 20201207_103333.jpg]
and more

[Thumb - 20201207_120814.jpg]
and now i have crates!

Damn, if those were what you made over 20 years ago, I can't wait to see what you come out with now! Awesome looking stuff, that table will look brilliant when you've finished it!

Excellent-looking work, my friend. There can never be enough creative crafty types for cool basing and scenery in the hobby. I'll be interested in seeing what else you come up with and how it'll look when painted up. You're doing the Emperor's good work, son!

A note on thread placement; maybe this belongs in P&M Blogs if it's to be an ongoing project with regular (or semi-regular) updates?

Really nice terrain. Surprising that terrain pieces that size survived so long in storage while you were away. Nice scatter too. Always essential for Necromunda. If you you're looking for more inspiration for Necromunda scatter I've made a few pieces you'll find in my galleries.

Do you have some players lined up for a post-covid campaign? So you still have your original minis too?

Those little electrical boxes up on the gantry are doing a great job of sellin the whole thing. Great looking build. I'd happily shoot an unfortunate ganger off that ledge.

This looks great! I love the greebles, but you have some solid upderlying shapes that remain playable.

I'll keep a eye on this.

Painting the generators now, i basecoat in black, then a mix of brown, orange, red and yellow tones. Then i paint recesses with masking fluid, and covers that with paint. Once barely dried, i remove the masking fluid using a very hard brush to reveal the rust underneath the paint.
Then add highlights and more washes.
[Thumb - 20201214_225112.jpg]
you can see the masking fluid here

Nice work your doing. The scratch builds are particularly well done.

I got a Ender3 earlier this year. I haven't done any Necromunda stuff with it yet, but I have found lots of .stl files on thingiverse for it.

LOL, Theo your mind is an amazing place, never change.-camkierhi 9/19/13

I like modeling my own, but 3D printing is nowhere as trivial as I thought

Some excellent terrain coming along here, I absolutely love your old mine entrance.

I've been making little bits to print on an Elegoo Mars and it's been one of the best hobby purchases I ever made. The 3D modelling is a larger learning curve though, so you're well ahead on that one
