yeah,
I never invented the idea of a all Grot army! But I love the Idea so I've stolen it...
My army is a group of Grots worked out that they are better than Orks!
Grots build better machines. Grots pilot better! Grots loot better and grots Shoot better too!
They decided that they didn't need them stinking orks! Viva La Grots!
These are the GrotMekS...
Counts as Big Meks
At the start of this blog I was only aiming for a fun 500pts to take to a tournament in Watford..
From there it kept slowly going. At some point it became rokkit themed, rokkits on everything everywhere!
I can currently run 3250pts.

yeah,
More Grots... on buggies! These are perfect in the grot army, I think it's fairly obvious why they have BS2!
I'm pretty happy with them. I think I'll lose the banner poles altogether. I think I'll have four grots per buggy.
Today I'm going to put together the squad of grots, and start painting something.
I think the colour scheme will be green grot skin, drab grey cloths, yellow or blue spot colour and a ash waste base.
Could you perhaps sack the dred for a unit of grotbustas (converted grots into tankbustas)? Might be a fun conversion. Or you could slap some green-stuff backpacks onto some grots and paint em camo as kommandos (gives you a fun infiltrate option). Hope those ideas help. Also I love the models so far. If you ever get bored later, I'd love to see what might happen if you put a grot in mega armor. I've always imagined two grots, one standing on the shoulders of the other, wandering around in mega armor and it makes me laugh every time.
yeah, Today I've been putting the killa kans together, the plan is to finnish off the modeling, so tommorrow and next week is all about painting. So far I've magnatised the weapons, but I've only managed to put one Kan together.. these things are really difficult to put together, none of the bits fit together so i've been fileing bending cutting clipping a drilling and GS filling... Then To make things worse I dropped my dremmel and with my ninja quick reflexes caught it again... by the spinning drill bit end. so while my hand recovers, I thought I'd check out dakka and update this blog.
Yesterday I got the paint brushes out and made a start on the grot squad. I primed/basecoated with Humbrol grass green spray.. which takes a little longer that GW spray to dry, but gives a awesome goblin greenish matt finnish. flesh = humbrol grass green inked with Thraka Green. clothing trousers etc adaptus battle gray* clothing items = Iyanden yellow* rags/wraps = skull white* metal = boltgun metal*
* will all be washed with devlan mud. Then all I have to do I paint the eyes and teeth... a couple more hours and these guys will be finnished...
some photo's
The spray give the guys a old school green base trim, although I'm thinking of giving them a desert base scheme... So that's it for now...
yeah,
I Finished the Kans...
Tomorrow I'll finish the DeffDred and make a RuntHerder.
The Grots need a BigGrotRuntHerder, I'm thinking of taking a rouge trader era plastic Imperial Guard man, and cutting him down a little to shorten his legs and belly area pop a grot head on his shoulders and a runt herder pole in his hands... I'll find out tomorrow if it works?
I'll also be undercoating the everything. I'm debating which colour to paint the kans and buggies.
DarkGrey or GrassGreen?
yeah,
Short update... (a girl spilt red wine spilt on my laptop, the keyboard's not working right! I'm using onscreen keyboard, I'll clean this post up later) I brought my laptop to the Pub so that I could update this blog while I had a pint, and a friend got a bit excited and knocked a glass of red wine across the keyboard... I hope it dries out!
I'm at work now, so I can make this post a little more detailed...
I made the GrotHerder out a ImperialGuardsMan, He's got a plastic OrkRuntHerders grotpole and squig. The GrotProd gives him poisoned attacks so strength isn't that important... plus when the enemy hits the squad the runts are all T2!!? For the full army I'll need to make another 3 GrotHerders per squad.
Stomp Unit!
These guys took ages to build. I magnatised all the arms so they can be pulled off, To make it easy to track weapon destroyed results.
The only thing left to do is scratch build a GrotZooka...?
Every Thing sprayed Green... the metal models need a second coat for proper coverage.
With this the small 150ml spray can ran out. It cost £4.50 and saved alot of time.
Coverage on the plasic troops was amazing.
nice, i was thinking at 500 points youd take 2-4 mobs of 30 gretchin ... its what ... 140 points for 30+ runt herds? just mob them so much they cant even decide who to shoot lol.
Come to think of it i wanna see a picture heavy bat rep one of the greatest grudge matches of all time ... gretchin vs their ork overlords in the final rebellion! waaagh
Yeah,
I'm happy with it! although I was expecting the can to last a bit more than 500pts!
You should be able to pick these up at a regular model store, if they stock airfix type stuff.
The range of colours is really good.
I'd try modelling some of the T4 grots as two grots - either side by side or one standing on the other's shoulders. This would work for runtherds, but better still for mega armoured grots - one controls the legs, the other the arms
You know - cos T2 + T2 = T4 and 3pts + 3pts = 6pts
yeah,
I like some of the ideas coming up in this thread.
I think Grot burnas and tankbusters and lootas will happen. MegaGrots!
I've been looking at these for a while, I think they will make good grot something.
Bikers? or with a heavy flamer on the left side burnas? --> monocyles
Anyway this is just a quick post of my desk to show that I've not stopped!

This is a REALLY good idea - and solves loads of 'counts as' problems...
I have something you might want to steal
I had a Grot model that kill 3 Khorne Berzerkers in CC, only one with help.
This was back in 2nd or 3rd edition.
I love this idea! Grots are great. So very amusing! If you can snag some of the old Gorkamorka stuff, there were some really excellent kits for the Rebel Grot range that would work perfectly for this project, I think.
yeah,
Sorry for the lack of updates.
I went drinking on tuesday after work and got nothing done. but on Wendasday I had the day off work and I painted the buggies and Killa kans.
I've used ForgeWorld powders for the first time and went a bit over board. but overall I was happy with the effect.
The Killa Kans. the photo is a bit washed out, but you can see i went overboard with the dusty powders.
The Buggies... Disaster struck, I sprayed the buggies with GW purity seal spray varnish and they clouded over in a white dust! It looks like I primed them white!!!
I've checked on dakka, looking for a way to fix the problem and found this -> spray varnish problem thread I tried two of the the meathods presented there... with no real success.
There is one more fix offered and that's to spray them with zip fix, If i can find some i'll give it a go.
I'm really annoyed! but there isn't much I can do about it right now.
this is what they look like now... I was almost finnished with these, all I had to do was paint the grots and rockets and they were done! but I wanted to seal the powders in.
The only sort of good news is that I've taken ill with a cold so while I'm not going to work today or tomorrow, i can get some painting done.
today I'm going to carry on working on the Deff dread and Kan Weapons, tomorrow I'll finnish The Troops and BigMek.
I just have to hope I find a way and time to fix the buggies... I've used GW varnish spray so many times and it's been fine I can only guess this is a bad can!!! gutted.
bad luck lad, happened to me to, didnt shake it enough, but the kans look really cool are you gonna add anythin more to the army like a deathfortress 'o grots a.k.a battlewagon or big gunz or sumthin?
yeah,
Ok so I tried reviving the buggies for couple of hours with water and nail brush.. inbetween painting the DeffDred...
A couple of grots drivers broke/fell off and paint&varnish was parting ways from the vehicles, I decided to give up! and try something new/basic.
I inked them with old GW inks matched to the underlying colours, this worked quite well althought it left the buggies in quite a basic state of colour/repair...
Ok this is my table 3AM... at the end of play today..
Click image to have a litle zoom around!
So tomorrow this is what I Need to do to complete the 500pts;
Big Mek needs painting and the Troops need inked.
DeffDred and Kans guns require painting plus I need to make a grotZooka!
Buggies are pretty much done except the Driver and Gunner (and passengers if I have time )
Oh yeah all the Troops and walkers need basing!!!1! Plus there is no way in hell I'm using my can of varnish again... I'll have to ask ArbitorIan to bring his!
God there is alot to do!
I've been thinking about calling these guys the Da'GreenSon's...
getting loads of EvilSunZ icons and sheilds and Basically everything gets painted green! Ya See I'm thinking like a Grot, What do you think>?
...I'm still a little under the weather... wish me luck!
Panic...
yeah,
Ok So the tourney has been and gone and it was a blast. You can check out how we did in ArbitorIans round up -> Here. I pulled a all nighter to get the mini's finnished and based, I finally put the paint brushes down at 3.30Am so I could get a few hours sleep! This is the army before I packed it up for the tourny.
If you click the image you can zoom around and have a closer look!
I sprayed the army with humbrol matt varnish 5mins before the comp started and arrrrgh the dusty white came back on a few mini's. I must be doing this wrong! But i refused to let this ruin my day and with all the paint stalls at GameFest I got lots of advice to fix them up and will try them out today and tommorrow. Also My BigGrotMEKS choppa also broke and got lost... :( so i'm thinking of giving him a power claw. In most games I attached him to the unit of grots so a PowerClaw will give the unit some bite in close combat.I'll keep you posted.
Plans for the army?
Ian and I are planning a a mini paint escalation league type thing.. with Squats vs Grots! so we will have a 500pt game soon... BatRep to follow.
The next mile stone is either 750pts or 1000pts and will have to contain 2 troops choices... by the time I have a 1500List I plan on having 9 KillaKans 2 dreads (second BigMek required so that both dreads count as troops) and 9 buggies... the rest of the army will be grots and whatever else I can fit in!
GrotZookas!!! are awesome.
MeanGreenStompa: yeah I did a search for resin grotzookas and found IronDog Studios His design looks good but he doesn't appear to be selling them? I'd also want variations in the scrap piles and barrels... and if I have to convert his grotzookas to get the variation I may as well start from scratch... I like his design thou It actually doesn't look a million miles from the last minute Grotzooka I put together from a old RT shock attack gun!
Also on his site is a excellent tutorial on how to kitbash ATV's out of bikes... which i will try with the new ork bikes.
i'm glad you had a great time at the tournie and i really can't wait to see even more of this grotty goodness. Did you get loads of people commenting on how awesome your army was?
yeah,
Thanx for the comments guys!
These guys have not been forgotten for the last week I've been painting up another 45 grots mostly metal, I also fixed up the original 15 plastic grots and herder they got a little bit cloudy with another spray problem just before the tourny... with a different can. I dunno what I'm doing wrong with the varnish sprays. I'll be doing test sprays onsomething else before these guys get varnished!
Anyways here's Photos of the 60 grots and the GrotHerder... Can you spot the ratling conversion?
This will be enough grots for a while as List wise I can play these guys as:
two squads of 30Grots with 3 Herders each, (I'll need another 5 herders)
three squads of 19 with 1 Herder,
four Squads of 15 with 1 Herder,
I've decided to strip the first three buggies... they can't be saved..
I'll put together the next 6 buggies and paint all 9 buggies at the same time. I bought a ork biker set and FW grot sponsons to convert into the next three buggies. not sure how I'll make the final three buggies.
Also I now have weapons for squads of burna boys and lootas...
Major bummer about the varnish spray. I'm glad you're not letting something small like that stop you, though!
I've got 4 cans of Testors Dullcote (which everyone seems to say it totally awesome) but I'm still afraid to use it after seeing these horror stories about the spray varnishes. You might want to give that one a try instead of the others... I've heard Really bad things about the GW one, not sure about the other you used. Also maybe it was too humid? I know those things have an effect, too.

+1. The old model is staring at me right now, begging for some paint
I'll be looking forward to how this evolves, since new army syndrome has affected me and I'll be assembling stuff to make a grot army; I figure an ork army without boyz should still be pretty playable, and everything else (vehicles, dreads, meganobz,...) can be grotted up.

When you do get the nerve to use it, let me know how it works for you. I have a can I am scared to use as well.
As for this army, I am madly in love with it. This is a running gag at my shop, actually. No one will make it, of course, but you have proven it can be done and I will be telling everyone of your exploits in the near future! Keep up the awesome work!
Love these themed armies, wish there were more of them out there. I remember I played against a Grot army at the Las Vegas GT years ago, it was hilarious stuff.
yeah,
Well done guys, you spotted the ratling! have a cookie. I have 9 more old style ratlings, I'm thinking of making a small squad of 10 grotlings...
Could make a characterful squad that's only purpose is to objective sit?
at the moment I'm having fun making some funky buggies out of ork bikes...
I've traced around a standard buggy on some white paper, and as long as I build inside the lines it shouldn't cause any modelling for advantage size problems.
this is the Meks WorkShop...
At the back you might notice the original3 buggies have been stripped down and had the grots removed... they will be rebuilt along with the next 6 buggies and all 9 buggies will be painted together. I have another thread where I set about Stripping the buggies if your interested.
WIP - Although at the moment it's looking a bit wacky races!
I like the FW sponson and KillaKan rocket combo...
---
Something completely different>> I found this case in the street... Pretty cool huh?
I gutted the lining and I'm using it to take the killa kans to Work to build...
I have two 12hr 'On Call' shifts this weekend. So I think I'll get alot done. maybe all 6kans and the dread.
Brilliant stuff! For sealing powders I use heavily diluted PVA with a little bit of washing up liquid which I apply using a syringe spreading it all over the model being sure to get good coverage' it avoids all the problems with spray primers! Could the Grotlings be used as a unit of Flash Gits or Lootas?
yeah,
Quick update,
9hrs of Drilling, Fileing, GreenStuffing and Pinning and all I managed was the Legs and Torsos!
These Kits look awesome, But they just don't want to fit together!
The bodies parts are all warped, and the legs are limited to a single pose so you have to dremel away at it to get more stompy poses.
I'm loving this thread and been folowing for ages, just got around to posting tho.
Loving the idea of a grot army and people at my local GW are talking about this tons.
Good find w/ the suit case and those cans look troublesome to build.
Good luck and keep it up
yeah, Sorry about the Lack of updates, but Progress has been slow... I've updated the tracker in my first post, If you have a look you can see that I'm getting some stuff done.
After the messy varnish issue The original 3 buggies had to be stripped down, they've been modified a little and I've built 6 more buggies. Today I finnished adding drivers and gunners so I base coated them so that I could show you guys something! Out of the 9 buggies, 4 are based on the official ork buggy model, the other 5 are scratch builds using new ork wheels, Big gun chassys, ork bikes. they are all 4 wheeled and more or less the same size as the official model, so I don't expect any questions about what they represent. I decided to alter some of the rocket launchers so that they are being hand held for variety, but now I'm kinda regretting that because they don't look twin linked... I'll add more crew later after they are painted, I think the buggies look cooler when they have more grots going for a spin.
The original three buggies. stripped and primed :(
3 new guys!
3 new guys!
Buggy Rush!
In other GrotNews! I've recieved 15 monowheels in the post = monowheel grot burnas! (after the main 1500pts is built!) I've also bought 12 Snotz (from GorkaMorka) these Little'Uns will be given pistols to make another cool small squad for objective holding. I'll update again soon! promise! PAnic...
Yeah,
I used Fairy Power Spray. It removed three layers of varnish and most of the paint. the colour that remained was kinda a stain but all the detail was there.
I've also heard good things about Original Dettol and that's cheaper by volume.
So it depends on how big the model your stripping is and how much paint/varnish is on it.
I picked up a bunch of Space Crusade Grotz up on Ebay ages ago their slightly taller and bigger and may make good Grot Herders......Brilliant stuff If your worried about the Hand held Rokkit Launchers not looking twin linked why not just add another gunner?
WaaaaghLord wrote:you need....grots in mega armour
Just won 10 MegaNobs on eBay. So I'll be adding MegaGrots. they cost alot of pts but should give the army some bite. I'll probabily arm them with 3xKombiScorchas, 3xKombiRockets and 4xTwinLinkedShootas To max out wound allocation and If I make a WarBoss grot they will count as scoring...
I think they'll help with the stompy grot mad mek feel to the army. 10 more power claws!
dor the deff dreads dont do grots driving deff dreads. if you remember only orks drive deff dreads. so do a normal deff dread wil a bunch of dynamite on top, with a grot holding the trigger thing, and pointing, telling the ork wot 2 do!
yeah, Ok I've ignored this blog for long enough! But I've been busy, I've replaced the unpainted metal kans and Dread with new plastic ones... the mixture of 3metal/6plastic Kans and 1metal/1plastic dreds give the army a more shambolic and varied look, these are built, photos to follow.
So I'm bringing this army to a tourney next month, so I think this blog should recieve a little more love. I have a deadline of three weeks to bring this army up to 1000pts so Today I managed to finnish some stuff!
First up is the new Big Mek with Kustom Force Field. He is using the old MEks Kustom Force Field... not sure if I'm going to rebuild the tau suit bigmek??
XellZero wrote:If you ever get bored later, I'd love to see what might happen if you put a grot in mega armor...
I've finished the first 5 MegaGits, grots in Tactical DredGrot Armour! these guys provide a tough unit for the mek to hide in. Made from MegaNobs (obviously) with a imperial tank track 'front hatch', A plastic grot head and then the shoulders are made out of greestuff. pretty simple but I like it!
yeah,
I need to find a bitz site that sells the Grot extras that most of the ork kits have... I want the grot riggers from the stompa kit, the grot pilot and the grot gunners in the battle wagon etc...
I've checked a few sites but they are always sold out.
I also want a set of the piggy back Gnoblars to convert...
I like the MANZ, they'll add some nice punch to an otherwise fragile army. I also agree with The Good Green: the KFF Mek thingy could use something on the back. Some kind of power source maybe?
Love the Megagitz, especially the smooth integration of the grotz and the paint job. Loathe to critique them given how far along you are with them... but... do the bodies look a bit big for grotz? I'd have thought a second head at stomach level might work, or a larger chest showing (or alluding to) the controls the grot would be using - almost like a walker or lesser killa kan...
Still, they look great and are much further along than my own Ork efforts, so feel free to completely ignore me
Fantastic minis Panic, I love threads with lots of modeling stuff in. Just a thought though have you though of converting FW grot bombs into Deffkoptas, I think it could work quite well, perhaps putting the weapons on the side next to the cockpit. Cheers, Bloodthirster.
Arakasi wrote:...do the bodies look a bit big for grotz?...
Yeah I agree the grots pop out the top a bit too much... kinda looks like they are struggling with the controls etc... My first version had the head lower down where the ork head/ironjaw went, but that left too much space at the top. I've got 5 more MegaGits to do so I'll probabily try dremmeling out the body so the grot is inside the suit, if it looks better I'll think about updating these guys.
Eldred Jonas wrote:..what is the big mek riding on?...
The Good Green wrote:The Big Mek is great, but it seems like they're missing something on the back platform...
I plan to have a extra grot or two there later. but right now i'm just trying to get the list up to 1000pts for the Canterbury tournament. I think i'll magnatise the platform so that extra wargear can be represented. I'm thinking Grot with boss pole. Grot with burna. Grot with a powerclaw type weapon, probabily a mech arm with buzz saw. I think I can manage to get two grots on there without it looking over crowded.
Bloodthirster wrote:have you though of converting FW grot bombs into Deffkoptas, I think it could work quite well...
I discussed this during the aftermath of two list playtest games I played with ArbitorIan, but I've used all my fast attack slots with the 9 buggies...

No love for a second head at stomach level then? (Grot in legs and existing grot controlling arms?) I do think the dremmeling out the body to fit the grot inside the suit would look best though... look forward to seeing it!
yeah,
Killa Kans are coming soon... I'm keeping them as my painting reward for getting the buggies and GrotHerders done!
I'll have them done in within the next two weeks.
Small update today, I've almost finished painting the buggies, the crew have been stripped off for painting separately.
They're ment to be desert buggies, but I think I've gone a bit over board with the powders again, so I think I'll paint in the highights again to try and fix them a bit.
Then I'll get on to the crew and GrotHerders.
9 Grot Rocket Buggies, the photo is quite big you can zoom around it if you click on it.
I think they look ramshakle enough, but I think having 4 official models is too many so I may replace one... later...
yeah,
Today I'm working on the buggies hoping to finish at least 6 of them with crew today.
So here's the first three...
Buggy1
Made from Ork bike and truck wheels. the crows nest is chopped up plastic model railway girders.
Buggy2
Made from a metal Lobba chassy, vindicator intake fan, bike bits, FW grot sponson, truck wheels and plastic model railway girders.
Buggy3
Made from GW buggy with a crows nest made from buggy mud guards, the skull is from the ork bike set... I think..
This buggy will get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date...
Group shot! Squadron1
Ok I'm going to start finishing Squadron2 now....
Hopefully I'll update later, before I go to the pub, Good local bands playing there tonight...
I love'em. I really like that every vehicle is individual in your army. Where is the grot with the wrench from? He looks like he'd fit in in my army as well
Awesome stuffs here, Panic. Have you seen the other grot blog (I'd post a link, but i'm too lazy right now)? Theres some good stuff there as well, that you could use accentuate your stuff.
Also, consider all your ideas stolen.
yeah,
Alex I have seen and subscribed myself to CommissarKhaine's squeeky waaagh since it started... much stealing going on all round! It's the way of the Grots!
Last night and today I finished off another 4 buggies... only 2 to go for the full set complete
Buggy4
Made from GW buggy with a crows nest made from buggy mud guards...
This buggy will get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date...
Buggy5
Made from GW buggy with a crows nest made from buggy mud guards, the front bit is from a ork bike...
This buggy will get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date...
Buggy6
Made from Ork Bike, bike wheels, truck wheels, Plastic Railway girders and a FW grot sponson for a crows nest...
This buggy may get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date... not too sure if they will fit on...
Group shot! Squadron2
And the first from the final squad...
Buggy7
Made from GW buggy with a crows nest made from a FW grot sponson...
This buggy will get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date...
Ok I'm off down the pub for a Late Beer..
More tomorrow, I'll finish the last two buggies and get the whole 9 buggy wing pictured together!
Hopefully.
Looking good as always! I really like buggy 6, it looks very fast and the bike parts make it look highly maneuvrable as well. Thanks for the info on the grot, I'll have to nick a skorcha from somewhere then... Not all that enthusiastic about the skorcha model, but nothing some plasticard can't fix .
Quick question: why buggies over wartrakks? I went for 2 wartrakks because 1) they looked cool and 2) I felt I'd be going through terrain with them a lot. Did you need the points (it's 45 points on 9 buggies, after all), or do you consider them expendable enough to have them destroyed on a '1' in terrain?
Buggy8 Made from metal GW grot Kannon chassis, buggy and truck wheels with a FW grot sponson crows nest .... This buggy will get two more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date...
Buggy9 Made from Plastic Railway Girders. Truck wheels, crows nest made from DeffCopter Rockets... This buggy may get more pointless hangers on/crew with guns at a later date, If they fit...
Group shot! Squadron3
All 9 Buggies with grots drivers and gunners... awesomes...
Tomorrow I'm play testing the 1000pts List I plan to take to canterybury, my 1000pt opponents will be ArbitorIan's PenalLegion and a Friends (Dakka user name pending) Ultramarines. I Need the practice with Fielding Grots...
Thursday after work and all day Friday are dedicated to getting 6Kans and 6GrotHerders painted, It'll be tight but I think I can get it done!?
yeah, This is the list I'm playing later today. Depending on how it Goes, I think this is pretty much the list for DakkaDakka Canterbury.. minor changes are possible. I'd like to bring grot zookas , but I don't seem to do much shooting. I run, run, run.. the only time I shoot and don't run is during the turn I charge into combat!
Revised 1000pts Grot List wrote:HQ BigMek, KFF, heavy Armour, Cyborkbody - 100pts
I actually think the army is pretty good for being so fluffly. The only change I would suggest would be to have all 3 MaGs to have combi-skorchas so you have more flamers.
Grotzookas on the Kans would be good but idk if you could find the points.
I like the list; my only concern is that your MANZ will be very slow without a transport... If you never shoot the kans, big shootas are fine, but grotzookas offer a lot more options. Still, your army in the end!
Also: why prods? I'd rely on the grabba stick to keep MC/ICs honest, then toss in kanz or MANZ. In my theory-hammer mind, grabba sticks beat prods since reducing the wounds you get matters more then dealing a wound on a 4+. Kanz and MANZ will have trouble with MCs, so you need something else to help them out.
EzeKK wrote:I actually think the army is pretty good for being so fluffly. The only change I would suggest would be to have all 3 MaGs to have combi-skorchas so you have more flamers. Grotzookas on the Kans would be good but idk if you could find the points.
The varied weapon load out is for wound allocation cheese! and in last nights game against Arbitor Ians penal legion it really worked a treat, the squad took a full 5 wounds before I lost 1 MegaGit! Taking wounds so the GrotMek stays alive is this squads job!
CommissarKhaine wrote:I like the list; my only concern is that your MANZ will be very slow without a transport... If you never shoot the kans, big shootas are fine, but grotzookas offer a lot more options. Still, your army in the end!
yeah but the MANZ only have to keep up 6" from the Kans to provide the Kans with a KFF save... that's their job.

Prods weren't that useful last night, and graba sticks are awesome. But I If i get assaulted by a MC and manage not to get eatten the prod is likely to be the only thing that will hurt it... In a 500pts game I played against eldar a grot prod killed a avatar, ok the avatar only had one wound left after getting shot up, but it assaulted a squad of grots thinking it could hide in combat and got a grot prod stuck in it's eye.
GrotZookas are made of win and in 1500pt each kan squad will have at least 1, even If I don't fire them for most of the game... in this list I could drop 1 Buggy or Kan to find some points?...

If the MANZ are only there as a bodyguard, they don't need a truck, that's true.
The prods... I'm still not convinced. vs a MC you need a 4+ to hit, 4+ to wound, and it has to fail it's save...That's, assuming 3+ save, 1 chance in 12 of wounding per attack. better then I expected, tbh. But the MC needs 3+ to hit, 2+ to wound, meaning each of his attacks has 5/9 to cause a wounding hit. I'd rather take away that attack tbh, and rely on kanz to crush it. Still, if it works for you... You've played more games then I have with the grots, so you've got the experience advantage! One last thing: I'd would go all grabba sticks or all prods, not in between. Thay way, you'll maximize your chance of a desirable result: doing wounds, or not getting killed.
As for points: 3 grabba sticks instead of prods = 15 points already.
yeah, Last night I finished converting and painted these GrotHerder guys, I just finished basing them...
three are made of OOP guardsmen, three are made from GorkMorka OrkYoofs. the last guys are the FW grot piggyback assistants. they have been given plastic grot heads, runtHerder weapons and a few squigs from eBay.
GrotHerder1
GrotHerder2
GrotHerder3
GrotHerder4
GrotHerder5
GrotHerder6
GrotHerder7
Group Shot
I think they are just right, not too big to be mistaken for orks.. Just BiggerGits!
I'll need a few more for the 1500pt army, the OrkYoofs are very easy to convert so I'll probabily get a few more of those, plus a couple of WHFB SquigRiders will look great. I'm also looking for the WHFB gnoblar piggyback model.
yeah,
LlamaHead, Thanx I don't expect to much from them, but I've got a feeling the little fellas will hold their own...
I failed to complete the kans
... I managed to paint the bodies, but I didn't get around to painting the Arms/Weapons or doing any weathering powders...
the KillaKanWall before I packed them for the tournament.
Grotherder 7, with the two Grots stacked, is by far the best thing I've ever seen! I imagine the other grots cowering before the "Supa Grot" just because two gretchin were smart enough to stack themselves lol
yeah, As a reward for doing so well at Canterbury I bought the grots £100 of resin goodies so check back later for that!
I've been taking it easy lately and having some fun with the army. If you havn't seen it You can read a 1500pts RebelGrots vs Guard BatRep -> here.
Some more fun... One thing that's happened alot during games is it's easy to lose track of Kan Wrecks. I've magnatised the arms, so weapon destroyed results are simple. When I get a wreck result I pull off both arms. but quite a few times I've gone to move a wreck, before I remember It's dead!
For example these Kans are dead... (killed by ketara)
The two Kans at the top of the board are dead (killed by RinkyDink)
Also a kan standing when it's supposed to be a burning wreck isn't so cool visually.
Then I remembered seeing this on the GW website what's new today. Steve Morris's Dead Sentinels. So I got to thinking I could butcher a box of Kans into dead Kans. £30 for some wreck markers seemed like a bad deal, but I'd also get more weapon arms to magnatise...
DeadKAns>>>
These were alot of fun to make. I wanted more than 3 wrecks, so it was all about seeing how far I could make the Kan body parts spread. Then I addeded paper clips and guitar wire to the arm sockets>>
Craters, I had a lot of little bits left over, these were put to good use. the craters are built up on 60mm 2mm deep wood bases, I used wood filler as the crater putty. after this dried out I coated everything in PVA to make it harder wearing.
Wow! they look outstanding, I guess if I could afford it I would do the same but I don't... lol, can we have a look at the resin stuff youv'e bought to your grots?
You know, I never really understood the obsession with an all-grot army. That said, this one is the best I've ever seen. It's something most players brag about achieving - and yet few ever do.
This is really cool, i've never seen such an inventive grot rebellion!
I belive that you'll make even more supreme stuff as this thread progresses
Keep it up
yeah, I had to dig deep to resurrect this thread! sorry about the neglect! but I've got lots of photos for you guys... hopefully it was worth the wait.
---
First up I went to the SilverSorcerer DakkaDakka Meetup @WarhammerWorld Nottingham. ->> my Report <<- includes 6 mini grot filled batreps
---
So what have I done lately? The Kan Wall is finished! (some weathering to do later at the same time as the dreads/megadreads!)
---
And Next up is the Markers... I got a bit of negitive feedback about chopping up perfectly good Kans to make markers... But think of it this way; The box cost £27 and I made 10 markers meaning each one cost £2.70 and they make the game flow so much better. Plus the Feedback my opponents have given me is it's fun army to play against and looking at the marker carnage they have caused enhances the game!
5 DeadKans -> Wrecks = Twisted metal
5DeadKans -> Explodes = Craters
How DeadKans Look in ACtion!!!
£2.70 well Spent??
---
I just Finished a 1500pts game Against ArbitorIan's WhiteScars and I got to use lots of DeadKan markers in that game. (I proxied the second BigMek, and used a undercoated dread!... the shame) BatRep to follow...
This thread has inspired me to stop lurking and actually post (if that counts for anything).
Excellent work, one of the best 'all grot' armies I've seen online.
I particularly like the innovative use of parts on the warbuggies, and that you went to the effort to make destroyed markers for your kans! Not only do they look great, but they are extremely practical when gaming (double win).
Kan wall is looking great, and I love the markers! As for the negative feedback: it's your cash, and your choice IMO, not to mention that £2.70 per marker is pretty good price. Nice work!
So today I had a little tidy up of my paint area to make way for some construction. I've had a poke around at where I'm at. I've used up all my heavies and fast attack slots. I have one troops, one HQ and two elites slots left. I think these are the next projects. Although this order isn't set in stone.
HQ 2nd Mek with KFF
HQ Mek with Shock Attack Gun
HQ WarBoss
Elites GrotTanks
Elites Burnas/Lootas
Elites The next 5 mega grots
Friendly game only 2x MegaDreads!
I also need to paint maybe 10 or 20 more grots and make more herders :( Although I have two WHFB squighoppers that will make fun herders
---
Parts and Ideas!
I bought 2 of the FW show only runtbots to convert into HQ choices. 1st RuntBot as MegaArmoured WarGrotBoss... easy! 2nd RuntBot converted into a dog stance with a ShockAttack Gun mounted on it's back... a bit like the KrootOx... crawling with grots. I also have the Tau bits left over to make the second Mek with KFF
GRotTanks <- probabily the most fun project. The only problem is all the FW guns look rubbish. I'll magnatise these options... I'll make barrels that look like regular tank cannons for the rocket option. Big shootas And barrels with hoppers for GrotZookas. I have 8 and I want 10... I found these imperial tanks and bits in my bitsBox.. they have volunteered to join the grot rebel horde I have a LemanRuss a HellHound two Sentinals and a basilisk...
I should have enough bits left over from the imperial scrap to help with the next project. MegaDreads x 2 I have 1FW megaDread with killKannon and Claw plus a extra KillKannon and a a pile of guns a friend gave me. I'm basically looking at ways to make the parts stretch to two dreads. I was thinking of giveing one mega dread a pair of skates made from grot tank tracks?
This is roughly the plan... Should make for a fun few months! It'll probabily be a week or so before I have anything new worth showing... Panic...
Batrep was a good read, shame the grots didn't make it; I recently used my grot revolution in a tournament, and I found my battlewagons to be invaluable for transporting meganobz, for drawing a lot of fire and for their defrollaz. Death or glory is vs front AV14, so even dreads tend to beware- and opposing nobz tend to get squished
To get to my point: will you be adding battlewagons to this force, or will it remain cheap and cheerful?
yeah,
So I did a bit of playing around today making a GrotMek with SAG.
The idea is a walking gun platform.
I'm using a FW runtbot body with a old metal SAG plus cut down sentinel legs.
These are mock ups most parts are held in place with bluetac.
The sentinel legs seem too big and I'm looking for an alternative.
Gun on top??
or to reduce the size make the body count as the gun and just mount the spinny bit on front??
The main problem is size, the runt bot is pretty big.
A ork Big Mek goes on a 40mm base... I've had a go at extending the 40mm base.
I could break the rules and mount him on a 60mm base.
It's supposed to counts as a Big Ork holding a Big Gun...
But it looks a bit too big...
What do you think is the model too big for what it counts as?
Should I up the base size to 60mm?
I'm favouring the one with the spinny gubins as a head Think if you could find some slightly smaller legs it'll work with an extended base. Killa kan limbs? Although they're probably not much smaller than the cut-down senty. You could glue the feet, or maybe smaller ones, directly to the base of the leg, removing the ball joint yo lose a bit more?
CommissarKhaine wrote:You should look for gnoblars from the Ogre kingdoms. They have guys sitting on each others' shoulders, and they look reasonably grot-like.
Just won some gnoblar piggyback models on eBay to use for runtherders.
Plus a set of the 7 grots from the stompa kit.. woot!
Great job and btw break the rulz fowget bout that we iz orkz we care less bout that fings just let your inner mek take control.... but i guess you want it more to friendly games not tournament so who gives a damn your friendly oponent will gladly fight your grot just to see them in action
yeah,
The grots are having it rough lately, they must be feeling ignored now that I decided to spend some time with dark eldar...
So I showed them some love, I painted up some dread arms and took the little fellas to a tournament.
dont panic panic there are no rules against bigger bases only if your bjorn (and i am not kidding here). in the last edition rules it stated that it doesnt mather which base size you use as long as its not smaller
Automatically Appended Next Post: dont panic panic there are no rules against bigger bases only if your bjorn (and i am not kidding here). in the last edition rules it stated that it doesnt mather which base size you use as long as its not smaller
Wow these guys are flipping good! I love the Gretchen ruthherders the big gun things, the double looted buggies ,the huge mob of killa Kans too.(just imagine what the enemy would be like im guessing they would be aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh !!!My personal favourite is the mega grots ,you my friend would make ork clans proud! The only problem is what about the normal Gretchen on close combat? The thrase you are looking for is o !
yeah, Ok resurrecting the blog for a little bit! I just went to PD3 and took the Grots again... --Report--> here. At 1500pts I was in need of a second GrotMek to gain access to the second 'counts as troops' Dred. And away we go. The idea is still mad grot mek similar to the tau walking Grot mek v1 (RIP) but with more a robotic feel to it.
First up I was eager to play around with my new cable tool from MasQ-Mini. I used the larges size tool and made some fat cabling. Before it set I squished it to achieve a square ribbed effect, I also squished the ends more to taper them down, so they fit some grabba claws I rolled a paper clip into the green stuff so the final product would be stronger than GS and bent into shape and left to cure.
next up is the body. the tracks are from Kromlech/maximni and the body is a chaos tank cupola with the cover placed below the ring. the side bits are the doom siren mount. the robo arms will attach here... everything pined.
the MekPilot is the FW grot that controlled the RuntxBot. The wires on the back of this were a pain in the arse, that's actual blood on the the back pack from a bit of guitar wire shooting out from it's place and piercing my finger (nobody can say I don't put blood sweat and tears into this project!) I should have used the small cable tool, but i need more practice with it, plus sometimes the haphazard effect you get bending thin guitar wire is cool too!
Ok lets start to get this together! the other bits I've added are claws from runt herders and metal cable bits from the metal killa kan sprue.
Pins. Pins everywhere!
and with KFF producing Radar dishes attached! - these are from the OOP imperial tank accessory sprue. I used all my supply of this bit up on the other GrotMeks KFF NotProp and ArbitorIan supplied these radar dishes, Big Thanx Guys.
So there you have it... Danger Will Robinson! Paint soon.
yeah found sometime today and got the big mek painted... so here he is. lots of photos b'cause I love him... naw I really am happy with how he came out... happyhappy.
blue energy for the KFF...
Grabby...
Both GrotMeks ready to roll!
check out the progress list from page 1 ! almost 100% green at 1500pts!

From the pictures I can't tell the difference, I'm well impressed with the paint job on the new models, it's looking pretty good.
That mold stuff is amazing. Keep the good stuff coming!
ME:can i have a roikt too boss!
Boss:No!!!!!!
ME: why?/
Boss: cause
ME: cause what?
BHoss: Boss i said so year git! "WWWWWAAAAAAAGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ME: well crap here he goes again....
So i started to build my battlewagon. I wanted to make a two story tank, so it had some of the short tall charm of the grot wagons. it started to look a bit like a mork/gorkanaut... I need to decide if it's gonna stay a battle wagon or if I'll make arms for it bigger than the little claw I stuck on there. I was losing too much painting time playing around with bits so i parked it till later.
The base coat is on! I only had a small ammount of the grass green i normally undercoat my grots in left. So I undercoated in Army painter ork flesh, and then dusted the models with what was left of the Grass green. hopefully it'll be OK and they match the rest of the army.
Current casting up two rocket arms for the mega dred.
Drinking spider tea and then Back to work. Panic...
yeah, 5hours count down to my first game of 7th edition. and heres the current status of the extra grot wargear... you might notice i shortened the grot tank barrels? (The idea behind using gun barrels so I can use these as either Rokkits or GrotZookas) Metal slugS!
I should be able to get them ready for the game.
Time to paint the feth ton of metal bits.
The list for todays game - 2400pt Orks: Codex (2008)
1x Big Mek - 'Eavy armour, Attack squig, Bosspole, Cybork body, Kustom force field, Power klaw
1x Big Mek - 'Eavy armour, Attack squig, Bosspole, Cybork body, Kustom force field, Power klaw

5 x Meganobz 3xTwin-linked shoota, 1 Shoota/rokkit kombi-weapon, Shoota/rokkit kombi-weapon
yeah, I only got a few of the new guys fully panted on time :( I played the 2500pts grot game (half on thursday half today) battle report soon!
Now that I've been caught up on ork fever i bought some new additions from a bring and buy!
Quite excited and should be very easy to get these guys made up and painted green! Some new buggy parts 2 more deffKans 3 more mini killaKans and a RT Battle wagon.. aint it cute??
Oh you've struck the motherload! I love those old Dreads, and the rear of the Skorcha makes a great base for Grot Tanks. Now I need to go look for some....
ArbitorIan wrote:...How many Grots can you pile on it???
lets find out!!?

I know right! I can't actually believe how happy I am to be back working on the grots and ignoring all my other stuff!
HAZZER wrote:Hi Panic, just poping in, those got tanks look really good! If you have more time are you going to weather them?

ArbitorIan wrote: Yay! When are you picking up the codex? Looks like you might be needing some more regular Grots, too, now that Dreds aren't Troops. Multiple CADs!
that's the worst thing about the new codex.
But I have 60 grots already painted so if I need to I can have 3 HQ - 6 troops
up to 9 Fast attack - more buggies?
up to 9 Heavies! - 12 KANS 4 Dreds and ?
Casting resin toes to make the feet a little less 70s scifi!
And rokkit arm mounts to pad the little guys out and so the rokkits are not attached to the Kans face!.
I used a two part silicone putty to make the press molds. It sets in about 5minutes and is good for 10-20 casts
the toes are copies of the metal dreads.
The rocket arm mount will be the shoulder half of the mini claw arms
I used sylmasta G27LV two part resin.
LV is low visocity it's very good at working its way into the nooks of small details...
this stuff has a working time of 2-5 minutes and can be demolded after about 10mins.
before I poured the resin into the arm, I put a magnet and paper clip pin into the mold. embedded magnets and pins FTW!?
Casts came out pretty good.
The feet will either be set up with 3 toes at the front.. or 2 front 1 rear.. or 4 .. I dunno yet..
I'm going to cut the rokkit mount at the end of the box detail.
yeah,
When life gives you lemons... buy more kans.
So Kans got worse.. but you can now take them in squads of 6...
so the new plans is
18 rokkit Kans
15 rokkit Buggies
1250pts.
That leaves 250pts for a KFF mek + troops...
and a little bit more work on the egg kans.
I didn't like the arm magnet join. So I recessed the magnets into the body.
Resin toes have been assembled in the CSM dred toe/foot style.
They are magnetized so that the arms can be removed during games to track damage.
and here they are hiding in with the rest of the gang.
I have 12 Kans now. I want 3 more rogue trader kans I have 9 stormclaw Kans on sprue. So it'll be 24 in total when I stop... plus 3 dreads is 1500pts unbound
Warboss_Waaazag wrote: That is an incredible amount of old school in that photo. Looks great!

Next Saturday I'm taking the grots to a '40k Escalation Highlander' event.
Escalation = 4 games - 500pts 1000pts 1500pts 2000pts
Highlander = only allowed one of each unit selection! (with troops being an exception)
Exciting stuff!
Highlander means I have to look at some new unit types!... I can't bring all the kans. So I'm going to add a jet, morkanaut and a battle wagon.
Here's my 2000pts Grots List!
+ HQ +
* Warboss Warlord - Mega Armour, Power Klaw, Twin-linked Shoota
* Big Mek - Mega Armour, Kustom Force Field, Kustom Mega-blasta, Power Klaw
+ Elites +
5 x Grot Tanks with rokkits
* Meganobz
* Battlewagon - Extra Armour, Grabbin' Klaw, Grot Riggers (It Will Not Die), Kannon, Reinforced Ram, 4x Rokkit Launcha, Wreckin' Ball
* 5x Meganobs 1 w/ Kombi- Rokkit Launcha 1 w/ Kombi- Skorcha
Yeah,
Today I built the grotza-a-bomber..
Didn't use the ork cockpit..
I used both grot gunner seats, made a cheaky copy of the grot body.
Weapons not yet stuck on will be magnetised so I can run all three jets.
Four days left to build the morkanaut and battle wagon.
And paint all three.
Never has your tendency to put your username at the end of your posts seemed more appropriate! Four days will go quick, good luck and I bet they will look great!
SBG wrote: Never has your tendency to put your username at the end of your posts seemed more appropriate! Four days will go quick, good luck and I bet they will look great!
indeed! 3days left! I think I can get the painting done in two. One day left to finish up the new models...
Morkagrot! Leg connection sockets cut out and moved to the bottom. (I've switched the Left hip socket to the rightside, and vica versa, it helps with reconnecting the hull.) I saw this conversion in the ork thread during the codex launch. It lifts the belly up and makes the robot a little taller and less lazy!?
Further weight reduction by leaving off engine parts and shoulder/knee pads ect help with making it more gritty less orky.
Arms will be magnatized for removal but I decided that I'd never wants a Gorky-grot so I've not magnatized the options... Almost complete I still have to fill in the bow tie shaped gaps at the side.
Excellent work and love the redesigned kits especially the battlewagon the height really makes it more grot like and adding the the rommelesque Grot really finishes it perfect
So I bought a Cairn Wraith and a box of fanatics to shamelessly copy the idea build my own. It's the grot way!
I originally bought the fanatics as the cheapest source of night goblin heads... However while looking at them, I had the idea... What if one fanatic is holding onto the weird boy to stop him floating off!
I chopped the arms and face off a rogue trader era grot and fit him inside the cairn wraith. Attached the fanatics rope to the weird boys neck and started building a big electro-weird staff... maybe too big?
So tomorrow I hope to smooth him out fix the gaps. Bulk out the weird staff handle and get some paint on him.
Weird boy conversion is looking ace, too, and no, the staff is not TOO big, just big ENOUGH!
If anything, the chain holding him from drifting away might be. Have you considered something with smaller links, or a rope, maybe? as is, might overpower the figure a bit... Anyhow, your call, and as I said before, coming along great.
Wow, insane conversion Panic! Looks really fun and very grot-like
The thickness of the chain is a good point Littletower, but I think once painted it will all fit together to the eye really well (right now it gets lost behind the awesome gun since everything is just grey).
I feel I need to highlight the original idea is not mine!
I had spoilered the source in my post above some of you might have missed it?
It's by this guy - http://leskouzes.blogspot.fr/ awesome blog.
And yes the wraith/fanatic combo is aces!
Anyways today I got the final GS done, filled the hood gaps bulked out the handle.
And sprayed him up, the spray came out a little rough but should be ok
yeah, I was Incredibly hung over today with shaky hands so no panting :( But I did rummage through my bits box and found a necromancer
I cut below his knees off and hollowed him out and plopped in a pair of grot legs. His right hand looked ok holding the staff but the left arm was too long... so I shortened it about 3-4 mm.. Cut the sword down to a dagger and gave him a RT monowheel to ride about on.

yeah, 95% done with the wizards, just some tidying up to do. I went ahead and based them so I could use them in a game yesterday
Adjusting one of the big meks so that it can be used as a BigMek on warbike. Re-attaching the original bike wheel. It needed shortening to fit closer to the grot. so I removed the shock absorbers. BluTack'd some got gunners on to check how they look as the TL dakkas? Starting to get too messy?
... I got 2 more grot tanks on eBay to bring the squads up to 5 tanks each. I removed all the grubbins that cluttered up the tanks. plastic card covered up the tank commanders second weapon slot. I also removed the tank commander grot, and closed the hatch (i'm already using a copy of him in on my battlewagon). Converted the barrels like my rokkit tanks. Should be a quick job to add some green and red so the match my army
yeah, Ok guys yesterday I played three out of five games. Two more to play today. But here is how yesterday went.
Game 1 vs Alex Grots vs 30k Salamanders.
The Grots piled rockets into his tactical squads which Died super fast. But my rockets couldn't bring down the Leviathan or Contemptor dreads... I was winning on tactical cards, but then the SM rallied and things started went south. My armour started to pop at an incredible rate and I lost about 80% of my stuff! Space marines secured 4 objectives. Grots had none :( Space marine Victory! Grots Defeat.
Game 2 vs James 4 Fricking Knights!!!! and a one squad of Space marine Allies.
Grot's ain't afraid of nothing and started off by killing all the Space Marines on turn one. The grots held their line and piled rockets into the Knights. We Managed a few hits on the knights, but nothing to write home about.
Then the Knights hit the Kan wall battle line and spent three turns mashing Grots into a green paste.
The knights were having soon much fun killing gretchin they forgot about their objectives. The Grot made a last turn objective grab and won the game! Grot Victory!!
Game 3 vs (another) Alex Classic Guard. Classic Game. Kill points.
The Kan walked into the wall of fire, lost about half my guys. We then started squishing the guardsmen and opening up their tanks.
Last game. Moar pointy eared gits wiv spacemurine mates. They brought some proper tanks wiv em. They stayed at the back doing all their shooting. We stayed as long as possible but we was all dead in the end...
We had a go!! and la Grots had fun! A dead grot is a happy grot.
I've had my yearly fix of 40K. Mission complete. Huzzah!!
