And so an update!
Now I've got off my ass (so to say), and got out the milliput things are steaming along!
The body is bulked out, the legs are practically done, the arms are halfway there.
The Abdomen needs some detail work, the arms need their armour plate, and the wings need making, then the hands and guardsman attaching, but other than that, just a lick of paint and it's done!

Well, I learned a valuable lesson tonight... NEVER try to paint after using the weed whacker. Hours after I put the thing down my hands are still shaking so badly that if I were I to hold a pencil in each hand I couldn't touch their erasers together. It's almost like I've got some kind of neurological disorder (it's that bad).

Lesson learned.

Whuuuu! This competition leveled up multiple times since I last had time to check it out. More updates, another finished entry, Mrs. Gits' cookies and more! So cool!

Another lesson is not to paint camouflage too well. Mine was terribad, and since I moved the basement around last week I haven't been able to find him still looking, and have time to finish him, but not enough parts to rebuild him.

4 days left... I'm a little worried that the bloom is off the rose and most of the entrants have given up.

Working out the right timescale for these things is a bit of swine, I agree.

I haven't given up, but I might be cutting it close. xD

Well I had to make a quick change of paint scheme when I realized that all my green paint had dried up... Ah well, tranquility pattern it is!

I can't even single anyone out for awesomeness as they all are simply amazing, so much effort and so much creativity, Gits you should feel pretty chuffed that all your mates on here respect you so much that no one has simply slapped some paint on a marine! I can't wait to see the finalists all lined up :-)

Another update - more work done.

I realise the flash bleaches out a reasonable amount - but the wings don't really show at all without it at the moment!
More work to do!

Honestly not sure... I'm thinking the logical plan would be carefull scratching it in with a scalpel, then doing a white wash...
at best, I can afford to screw up once, maybe twice - then I'm out of the appropriate thickness plastic sheet...
This will possibly be the most difficult and nerve wracking part, I'm going to have to be exceptionaly careful mapping it out and doing it.

It's at points like this (when you realise that that's 1/4 of wing 1 of 4) that I start to question my own sanity.

So after deciding that one was irredeemably buggered, I started again. 2 and a bit episodes of Andromeda later, this emerges:

Thats amazing looking Ovion. What did you get the plastic sheet from?

Back around christmas time, I accidently acquired a Dalek Necron army.
The bulk of it was made up of these:

The wings are being made out of the sheet from the lid.
Strangely, the bottom is a different, flimsier plastic, and of the roughly 6-7 packs of this I had, I can only find one - which I have no exhausted making 3 lower, and 2 upper wings.
I think the rest might be in the loft.

I'm currently almost done on the second lower, then it's just a matter of the 2 upper, sculpting the carapace edging for it, then painting it all + final construction (some of it really needs painting before gluing, such as the inner layer of the wing carapace)

Wings. Done and painted.
The carapace still needs doing, but this part at least is complete!
Roughly 1 hour to design and cut the 4 wing shapes in paper, then plastic, then a further hour per wing to create the effect, with another 10-20 minutes after washing and polishing them.

To think - if I hadn't been staying up all night so we can reset our sleeping patterns, I might not have done such a thorough job! xD

I'm going to have to finish mine tomorrow, just the loyalist Warrior, too. Didn't realise I was going to Sydney over the weekend

Ok then. I ask a question and go to bed, then when I get up in the morning and check in I find in reply, that you've gone through not knowing what to do, thinking about it, planning, doing and finishing it...

Good job Ovion. Pattern looks good.

Something that could've looked good on the wings (and I realise you don't have the money to spend on it), is some interference paint to give the wings that little bit of shimmer. Been playing with some recently and it creates a nice effect. Probably wouldn't have worked with the cut pattern as it would collect there, but you could have put it on first then cut the pattern.

That stuff look pretty cool - and I'll certainly look at getting some in the future (along with GITD paints ).

It may still work on the wings, as pooling would just make the pattern stand out a little more - my main wonder is how it'd work with no base colour?

Being able to paint stuff Mother of Pearl would be nice though.

Indeed I do my friend. The work everyone has done has been fantastic and I am truly honored that so many have seen fit to give this a shot. The efforts and execution have been wonderful to see!

@Ovion: That's just amazing work... truly.

Pooling would be fine, I was thinking of it ending up in the cuts where the effect should actually be minimal.

Yeah it's quite a subtle effect even on a dark background and it's a right pita to get a good photo of the effect. Worth a look though.

GITD and UV active paints would definitely be cool as well.

Thanks - and the best part is, the photo really doesn't do it justice. (Maybe in actual daylight?)
It made the torturous hours, sore fingers and being covered in purple worth it when I sat back and went 'holycrapthatlooksgood'.
The rest of the build has been relatively pleasant to be honest.

Why does Glow in the Dark make everything cooler? I don't know, but it does!
I intend to get some GITD white, cyan and others, and paint over a lot of details on my Tau / CSM / DE / Dalekcrons in it.
Then a reasonable amount of my Nids when I start them will be GITD (probably all the carapace, with drybrushing over).

Then one day (many years down the line), I will complete my ruined city board (6x4 board, center piece being 2 towers 5-7 levels tall, with the upper levels collapsed into the street) surrounded by 1-3 level buildings.
The street lamps / burnt out car headlights / a few windows here and there / light fittings in the buildings, will have working UV LEDs in them.
Going to need a 3D printer and about a year+ to do it in though....
