Not quite sure I get that.

Yet another Daemonette done, I kind of like how the blending on the cloth went in the end. I've also gone back to using black ink to do the eyes, just give that slight shine that I think fits in a little better than if I used paint then attempted to use gloss varnish. I suppose there is adding in a static shine with white, but I sort of like the deep piercing look without it.

Also some may have noticed that this painting blog is now somewhat organised in the first post. More for any new people that show up, but it should still be somewhat useful for everyone else.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well this was a somewhat quick update. Started working on it, as I do most of the time after an update, then kept going at it until it was done instead of posting WIP pictures like I had hoped. Before I knew it I was doing the highlights and it was done.

Not sure about the coat though, looks better in person. Perhaps I should retake the picture of it.

ok...firstly i can´t remember what i had posted with that pic...memory is all gone...but definatly not that pic...

will delete it now...

and secondly...

and the inked eyes of the first model look great... the second one are a bit too much flashlight...

as for the coat on the second one... looks funny...as the brass button is eyactly at the point of her bum... looks a bit like that fella from the cartoon show "drawn together"...

Thanks.

I was adding turquoise to the eyes like the other herald and slipped. Instead of going back and redoing the entire face (it was the last step) I shrugged, took out the white paint and went with it.

Another WIP shot today. Don't know how I came to the decission, but I've decided to try out a new skin tone using Codex Grey for the base in place of Deneb Stone. No idea how this will turn out in the end, but I might leave the pink out before the wash so that if the skin comes out fairly darker I could just go with a darker scheme over all. I only have 20 Daemonettes at the moment too, which I had thought was enough for two squads, funilly enough it is recommended that you run 15-20 per squad meaning hopefully there will be a lot more in the future.

This is sort of how they all look after the first base coats, well except the grey.

As for my seemingly abandoned SoB blog, I've not forgotten it and have all the parts for a conversion for it set out (A palatine to act as the "lead" celestian of the command squad); just deciding on if I'll go with a boltgun, flamer or make a melta out of half a combi-melta I've got sitting around for some reason.
Sadly the expense of that army means that that blog has only three models left until their new models are released, one of them requiring a part to become available or me to become godly with plasticard or freehand to replace it.

I'm not really seeing the difference, but it may be closer to the first one.

good looking...as said previously i like those dead hollow eyes!

Thanks Vik.

For this one I added a tiny amount of white to the eyes to sort of compliment the gloss of the ink. By tiny amount I mean I put a small amount on the fine detail brush then brought it to a tip and kept running it over paper until it barely made any marks before applying it.

I think in the future I'll leave the eyes as they were.

Also a quick question for everyone, as this first squad is to be 18 strong it is almost over. An idea I got was to replace the pink on the Daemonettes with blue instead, same contrast just different colour. The idea was to then set the two aside then randomly decide which belongs to which squad before marking their bases to finalise their squad. Any additional Daemonettes would then be assigned either pink or blue randomly. Of course the other units in the future like Seekers or fiends would incorporate all of the colours in a way. So, back to the question, should I continue the way I have them at the moment with their subtle differences or have a more diverse mix of tones by including the blue into the army colour scheme?

i think the blue would bring a nice diversity to your troops... something along the line of your SoB hues you used maybe? that would be a nice idea... lighter skintones too even... i think then to later on mix them all together would be a good way...

by the way... like her teeth... they look very menacing^^

Thanks, I think I'll try to keep doing them the same way.
Black ink in mouth, white for teeth, badab black wash, white highlight covering half, badab black, white at the very edge...
Yep same turquoise, but maybe a little more blue than the SoB were. Certainly brighter.

For this one it had the eyes done like the above, except with a badab black wash afterwards.

Can't help but experiment with each one as I go along, though keeping it small so it isn't too noticeable if it messes up. I've also noticed that the glue on the base is still wet in this picture and you can see it under the left foot.

now that one has a true evil glint in her eye...good job!^^

And that's it for squad one, now all that's left are two Daemonettes. I'm thinking I'll try out this alternate colour on the one with a banner; perhaps pick up another box of them later in the week. Means it's time to try to work on the Fiends now.

An idea that has popped into my head for them is to use some of the Pink Horror arms, the sort of normal clawed ones not the crazy ones. Yet this may be too much for them, I'll likely be better off to get them mostly done first before trying out arms. If all else fails Daemonettes come with too many arms anyway, and the intention is to use the spare heads for them.

ok... looks very good yet again...^^

and i have no knowing of fiends at all... so...

you open up a whole new world ...of chaos for me with your work anyways^^

Well first one with blue done.

Still not too sure on it, but it may look better with a bunch of them together mixed through the rest of them. If not I could put this aside as a test and bring the colours back with something else if anything.

Also these are fiends.

I don't really like their models at all.

I really like the blue, alot! Maybe you should try and have some uniting colour for them all if you are going to mix the units, maybe an accent or something, not really sure, but something to tie them together.

As for the fiends i'm not a big fan of the models either, I imagine you could make vastly better ones using seeker bodies and tyranid claws. (Or something equally ambitious.)

(Edit: Having just caught up with the last page i now realise Vik is way ahead of me here.)

Hmm maybe I'll save that colour for the fiends instead, using the skin tone to tie them in. Or just not worry about it and save it for something else entirely.

That seems a massive shame, i for one would definitely like to see more of the blue, I see where your coming from though, make a note of the recipe, its a winner.

i have to second j-paint here... that blue is just very cool looking! suits the minis very much!

and it made me think... you did pink, now you start with blue... throw in another sqaud of purple and you are truly done!!!

yep, the fiends looks horrible...in no good sense at all... apart from nid bitz...hmmm.... do you have a lexicanum site that explains what they are and what they can do on the battlefield... i am afraid to say i have no chaosy codecies at all...

It comes up a little short really, although in a lot of ways it leaves alot up to the imagination, which for unique models is good in many ways. Will be curious to see how you try and tackle this.

thanks j-paint!

well that description is very much to the point of the models...hmmm...

well the active ingredients of the mini should be done with the afrementioned nid bitz... after that maybe something like a khorne warhound or a LoTR warg? i think this would be not too pricey and with a bit of GS skills it could look quite good? the head with the long tongue is also doable with GS...maybe a lil bit of wire for support... but in essence it shouldn´t be too hard to come up with something better than that GW mini...really^^

I guess to try and keep as much slaanesh at possible without extensive greenstuffing you could take the seekers, shorten the standard legs massively, attach the legs from what would have been the rider to make it a quadruped sort of thing and then take the poor would be riders arms as well and bolt them on about half way up the throat. for clawy goodnes..

(just a thought mind you.)

would that be more or rather less scost intensive? i grant you...the slaanesh feel would be there instantly...hmmm... truly food for thought...

Made in gb

Well it's got the advantage of being all from one kit, which would make it £3.10 a fiend, which isn't too bad, especially compared to the £13 whatever GW want for theirs.

Having said that I'm getting carried away, nOt_u might hate the idea.
